2 stars. Before sending your pup here PLEASE read this review. My precious French Brittany went here for 8 years, occasionally when we went on vacation. He LOVED going. We would say "do you want to go to Jenny's?" And he would go NUTS. One weekend, he was there for one day when he was attacked by multiple dogs in her backyard. We were told it was a "scuffle". 3 days & a trip to MSU Animal Emergency Hospital later, he passed away from his injuries. I wish I could show the pictures, but I know they would get taken down. He went into septic shock & then went into cardiac arrest, he was only 9 years old & we loved him dearly. Like I said, he went there for 8 years, which is why I give 2 stars. He loved going & we always felt comfortable sending him there, up until it was his last time ever there. Just know before sending your pup here (unless it has changed) that the dogs outside are left unattended, with no cameras. We truly love Jenny & the care she offered, and in no way are we saying to never send your pet here, but PLEASE use discretion before sending them. I dont want this to happen to anyone else's beloved pet. The trauma of all of this that went down will truly haunt me forever. He looked HORRIBLE, his vet said that the attack went on well over 30 minutes. How no one heard it/saw it is beyond me. Unless things have changed & she has hired someone to be outside with them or something to help avoid this in the future, please just decide if your dog's life is worth it or not. Our dog was our entire world, until he wasn't because of human error. We have no doubt Jenny loved Copper & we truly have forgiven her. I know she loves what she does. I am wholeheartedly hoping she has changed procedures/protocols/etc. so this NEVER happens again at her home. We miss our sweet boy so incredibly much, over something that we recognize as an accident, however, it was completely avoidable. We know Jenny is as heartbroken as we are, and in no way am I blaming or accusing or anything of the like, or in no way do I want her to go out of business. Just please, please, please, decide if you want this to happen to your dog or not. We never thought it could happen to us until it did. Our sweet boy lost his life & we lost our best friend because no one was out there watching. The extent of his injuries was just horrible. He endured one surgery to get skin grafts before he passed away on February 8th, 2024. I think we will always be devastated, and the memory & images of his mauled body will never, ever leave us. read more

Jen, was absolutely amazing!! I cannot recommend this enough, was a huge house setting not a typical cold boarding place. Our pup zoomed right in, no hesitations. We picked him up he was all smiles! A customer for life! First time dog boarding was pretty nervous, but she explained everything and was so sweet about giving me doggie updates. Not to mention her pricing beats everyone else!! Jen was an absolute delight and was SO accommodating to our needs and our dog's needs. I have a 8 month old golden retriever puppy who I was very nervous to leave for a couple days... Jen was so helpful with explaining how her pet boarding works and definitely eased my concerns and fears about leaving my baby with her! I love that my dog was able to play all day outside and socialize. Many of the pet boarding places I have looked at keep the dogs in kennels... but not BC boarding. Love it. I would highly recommend to anyone needing daycare or boarding for their dog. read more

Brought my older dog to Jenny to see if this would work for an upcoming trip. She was very honest and understanding of my concerns regarding my dogs health and limited socialization. I'm not sure if we will use her however I truly appreciate her honest evaluation and believe that she truly cares for the well being of the pets she cares for. Our Dog would have been better off if we'd left her in the backyard alone for the 4 days we boarded her with this kennel. She was neglected and filthy, with mud and feces all over her, including head, face and eyes. Horrible experience for our dog and our family. An aweful experience to be greeted this way returning from vacation. If you love your pet, DO NOT use this facility. read more

We typically board our dogs at our vet and each experience has been wonderful, which is why this experience has been a night mare. When we picked our two small dogs up, they smelled awful. We thought nothing of it until we realized that our one dog was nonstop vomiting and had bloody diarrhea. We monitored her closely throughout the evening on Saturday after pick up and into Sunday. On Sunday, when we felt this experience was not just a fluke, we contacted Jenny, to which she replied this was a typical side effect of boarding and that it even happens to her dog and probably wasn't an emergency situation which would require immediate medical attention and could wait until Monday morning. When we washed the blanket in our dog's crate we quickly realized it was covered in throw up and immediately bathed both dogs. Fast forward to Monday, our dog is still vomiting and having diarrhea and we rush her into the vet. She was so severely dehydrated that her body was now in acute kidney failure and she needed to be admitted for 48 hours of IV fluids and extensive testing. Our vet told us if we had waited any longer our dog probably would have not made it. On Tuesday morning, we noticed our other dog was experiencing similar symptoms so we took her into the vet's office. She, too, was severely dehydrated and had lost approximately 2 pounds (only weighed 8.5 to start). This dog also needed 48 hours of IV fluids and extensive testing. We have no idea how long our one dog was vomiting or having diarrhea while being at Byron Center Pet Boarding, but given the condition of their cage, we believe it was happening for at least a day or two. We also received no notification while on our trip that our dogs were not eating or drinking, which is very abnormal for them, according to Jenny though, very common. All in all, we and our vet find it strange that both dogs came home with such severe dehydration and weight loss. We feel like this could have been prevented with close monitoring of diet and bathroom habits, as well as, being notified of their condition throughout their stay. To say we are disappointed in this experience would be an understatement. What's even more disappointing is the response from the owner where she clearly places blame on my husband and I rather than showing concern for the health and well being of our pets. She claims that it's our fault our dogs had to be placed in their cage because they were "unsocial" and it is a requirement that dogs are "well socialized". However, upon reviewing her website and speaking with Ms. Covender in person, it was NOT an issue at all that we did not want our girls around the other dogs. Quite honestly, the reason behind this decision was that we felt it was a safety concern that our two small dogs (7lbs and 13lbs) were in a small kitchen with approximately 8-10 other LARGE breed dogs. read more

We left our dog, Luna, at BC Pet Boarding while we were out of town for Thanksgiving. We were so impressed!! We rescued Luna from a county shelter a few months ago and we were worried about leaving her somewhere where she would be caged for hours on end. At Jenny's she was able to play outside and socialize with the other dogs to her hearts content. She was only crated at night. I loved being able to check in by text and get a quick response. Luna came home happy and exhausted from a fun four days. We will definitely be using BC Pet Boarding in the future! read more

I have traveled for work for 20 years. I have used kennels to board my 2 Labs for hundreds of nights and spent thousands of dollars doing so. I am from Kalamazoo, Michigan and have been looking for a good kennel in the Grand Rapids area since a recent move here. I know what good kennel care looks like, and this was by far, the worst I have ever encountered. When I picked him up, he was covered in mud from head to toe. No kennel I have ever taken him to would have returned him to me in this condition. He was so filthy, I had to take him directly to Chow Hound to bathe him. Jenny, the owner never stated when pickup time was in order to not be charged for an extra night & even though I called & told her I would be picking him up 6:00, she still never mentioned the extra charge. When I questioned her on this at pickup, she became insulting, calling me cheap & when I complained about how filthy he was, she would only say that my dog had fun playing in the mud with friends & had a wonderful time. She then said she does not do dog grooming or bathing for pickup. My dog should be returned to me in the same condition as how he was at drop off. I question the care he received and am very disappointed at her unprofessional attitude throughout my dealing with her. I was warned by someone else not to bring my dog there but this was last minute and she had availability. Bad experience.. be warned as I was; do not bring your dog here. read more

I have brought my dog to BCPB almost weekly for daycare or boarding for about a year now and have had a great experience every time. The dogs are well cared for and well exercised outside in the fresh air -- which I appreciate: it's exactly what my dog needs. I can tell that Jen knows my dog and loves animals. I have brought my dog to other day cares in the area, but BCPB provides the best atmosphere and care. I'm consistently impressed. The dogs play outside in nice weather so if you have an "inside" dog, I'd communicate that to Jen so she can accommodate you. Last time I was there, she had a wash station for doggos who get dirty. When I say, "Do you want to go to the farm and play with the puppies?" to my dog, he acts like it's his birthday! read more
