We were driving back from North Dakota and got a flat tire on our boat trailer. Then had that one fixed replaced with a spare only to have that tire shred to pieces. Shaggy's was fast efficient to get it fixed. I highly recommend this company. read more

Read Before Calling for a Tow I need to post this review of Shaggy's Towing of Melrose, Minnesota, to warn all persons who may be in need of and are searching for an emergency tow. This company is going to rip you off! This winter, my daughter unknowingly drove down an unplowed road on a downward slope with her four-wheel-drive Jeep Patriot. Due to the slope and about 8 inches of snow she could not make it back up the hill. After searching for a towing services nearby we selected Shaggy's Towing Inc of Melrose since they were within 15 miles. They showed up around 25 minutes later with two ATV's and after attaching a tow strap to her Jeep using only one of the ATV's, promptly towed her back to the main road. This tow took only a few minutes since she had not gone off the road and her Jeep is a four-wheel-drive vehicle. Although we were thankful to have her back on the road we were shocked at the final bill, just a few cents short of $390! When my wife received the invoice she contacted Shaggy's to inquire as to the high nature of these charges and was treated with snarky disrespect. The person explained that they had used two ATV's on this tow when, in fact, they had brought two but only used the one. He further explained that the ATV's were not cheap to purchase and therefore needed to charge a fee of $100 per ATV. My wife asked that since only one ATV was used if the second charge of $100 could be removed. The person responded that how would she know only one was used since she was not there (our daughter, who was there, had explained what occurred during the tow) and, therefore, would not be making any adjustments to the invoice. Upon going to Shaggy's web page we found that they would appreciate the chance to "make things right" before posting any negative reviews so we left a request to discuss this tow and subsequent invoice but have not heard back from anyone. We are now at the point where we realize we will not be getting any satisfaction from them so are posting our bad experience in the hopes of persuading anyone looking for a tow to look elsewhere. Today, I got lucky. My Denali got a flat tire in St. Anna, and I got stuck on a rural road in the middle of February 100 miles from home. I used the AAA App to call for help, which seemed fast and easy. The truth is that the la-la land of digital AAA isn't really connected to real life. But, fortunately, AAA connected me to Snuffy's Towing in Melrose, and the highly competent and conversational people there. Sophie in Dispatch talked me through a more realistic wait than AAA had "promised." Chris arrived about an hour later and quickly figured out a couple of complications that required towing. It was Saturday with nasty weather coming in overnight, and I explained that I was staying in a nearby hotel for a full day class the following day. No problem, he said. The SUV was towed to get repairs done and then delivered to the hotel for me just 4 hrs later. I got texted updates and a full report after repairs were done. Snuffy's is the best of two worlds: sophisticated roadside assistance and communications combined with hometown independent service. I just can't say enough about the security of knowing my car is roadworthy for tomorrow so far from home. I offered to pay directly and submit myself to AAA because I realized that AAA as a middleman did NOTHING to help me as an individual or them as a business. I'm wiser now. From now on I'll find the Snuffy Towing type services myself and get help faster. I'll keep the AAA membership for roadside security, but it's not the service it used to be when real live people like Sophie answered the phone. Travelling home to Idaho last summer on I-94, while stopped at a rest area 30 miles west of St. Cloud, I noticed a broken leaf spring on my small travel trailer. Being this was my second broken leaf spring within a year, I knew what was entailed in replacing it and knew it could be done easily onsite. However, the only option with AAA (or Good Sam Roadside Assistance) was to have it loaded and towed to an auto dealership back in St Cloud, with no guarantees on repair time, travel time or shop time. Complicating the issue was with no generator and the temperature expected near 100, keeping my longhaired cat from overheating was going to be a serious issue. Without a better alternative and with the day quickly warming up, I agreed to the tow and was promptly contacted by Shaggy's Towing. I explained the situation to the woman and was elated when she said it would be easier to replace it onsite rather than unhitch it, load it up, etc. What began looking as a possible nightmare in logistics changed with that one phone conversation. In order to save time and money, she gave me the number for a parts store that they trusted. It was so easy to buy the leaf spring and it was picked up by the tow driver/mobile service man. The professionalism of Shaggys Towing went a long way to ease my stress. Coordination with the three of us (office/dispatcher, mobile guy, and myself) was flawless. Calls were returned at the time specified and details were confirmed so no misunderstandings. I'm sorry the man's name was misplaced because he was amazing. From the time he arrived to the time he left was 30 minutes. Considering that the first time I had a spring replaced it was 2.5 hours, this was incredible. He knew what he was doing, did it efficiently, gave me instructions on how to torque the bolts when I next stopped, and his charge was only $100. When I mentioned that he was really hustling as he worked, he said there were going to be more calls and the sooner he was done with this job, the sooner he would be available to help someone else. That kind of attitude needs to be made public so I just had to say something, even if it is 9 months later. Thank you, Shaggys Towing for saving the day! read more
