One of them is used for soccer and there's also a tennis court. I saw some weird court that had some structures on it that I have no idea what it's used for. There's a pavilion and a jungle gym for kids as well. There's a bike trail if you don't mind riding up hill, you will be rewarded on the way down when it's time to leave and get to ride down. There's a trail in the surrounding woods as well. On one side, there's a view into the quarry and on the other side a view of the city. And if you're at the park and we get invaded, no worries there is a tank occupying the high grounds as well.

The only thing that would make the rec. better is if it still had the basketball court. North Haledon is a baseball town and it shows. The park has 5 basketball fields. #1 is major league size located by the Brookside entrance. You will also find the kids jungle gym, or kids American Ninja Warrior training facility as well as the entrance to High Mountain School. There is also a trail accessible from Dawn Ave. for the locals. Field #5 is a great field for a homer in derby. It is located by the overlook entrance by then police department and Library. There is a beautiful stream that goes along the border of the park. You may find children in the water, but I wouldn't recommend it. There is a bike trail that goes behind #1 and also a garden. They have batting cages, but are only accessible by the ref commission or coaches. There's a refreshment stand and pavilion area. There are plenty of soccer fields and tennis courts as well. The tennis court is locked, the code is 421, the police assured me that anybody can play. They also have a wall for "pickle ball." I'm not sure what that is, but when I was a kid we used to play "butt's up" outside the gym by the middle school. I suspect they didn't want kids playing there, created a wall and renamed this game. (You if you dropped the ball after it was bounced against the wall, you had to run and touch the wall before someone would throw it against the wall, if the ball got there first, you would have to allow the thrower to throw the tennis ball at your butt).

Truth be told the majority of the playground structure is just slides.. but if your kid loves slides then this is the playground to try! There's a bunch of fun ways to get up to the slides too -- a couple ladders, a "rock wall", steps, etc. Rumana is definitely on the newer side with rubber mulch and brightly colored heavy duty plastic parts/pieces. The playground has a good sized yard so great for kids running around too. It is enclosed by a fence but it's not lockable... so if you have littles then you'll want to keep a eye on them a bit more closely so they don't wander off. The small basketball court, merry go round and swings are all a bonus. The swings are designed for older kids though... no baby or toddler seats. Parking is easy -- there's no parking lot but the street in front of the playground indents a little bit so there's plenty of room for a line of cars to the playground and for other cars to drive down the street.

This is a decent little park right along the Passaic River In Paterson. I'm pretty sure you need a…read morepermit to use the baseball, football or soccer field, but there's plenty of grass for you to picnic or play games. You can rent out or use the pavilion and their website tells you what other events there are, like Zumba. There a paved path for walking or jogging and areas for fishing or feeding the ducks. They have 2 full basketball courts. You'll probably find a kids and an adult game going if the weather is nice.

Fun Fact- The Falls: A 77-foot-high waterfall on the Passaic River, second only to Niagara Falls in volume east of the Mississippi. The Great Falls of Paterson is even more impressive to see after a major rainstorm. The falls are more immense and you'll get spritzed. LOL... In the winter time, You can see the falls in a frozen state. An absolutely mesmerizing experience. Hope you enjoy the photos from all seasons.

There was floating trash everywhere, a lot of foam on the surface, muddy brown water, and a strong unpleasant smell. Instead of enjoying the scenery, I just wanted to leave. Parking was also difficult, especially during busy hours. I understand this is a historic landmark, but based on my experience, it wasn't worth the drive. The waterfall has potential, but the cleanliness and overall maintenance really need improvement.

The tour covered many different topics of that era. You could see yourself imagining what life was like at that time. Don't miss the portrait painting on the 2nd floor.

Soooo if you happen to live in Northern NJ and happen to have family visiting, and that family…read morehappens to be huuuuge history buffs -- then y'all should probably visit the Dey Mansion, aka George Washington's Headquarters way back in the late 1700's. Full disclosure: it was my mother who looked up the Dey Mansion and requested to go there on a recent-ish visit. It wouldn't have been my first choice of things to do on a sunny Saturday but she's the guest and a total history nerd and it was something to check out. I can't say I didn't enjoy it at least a little bit... while my mom is a history nerd, I'm a design nerd and the house itself, built by the Dey Family, is beauuuuuufitul. The brick, the wide plank wood floors inside, the gorgeous [paint] colors used throughout were just striking on every level. Then the layout and design and function of the house back in the 1700's is so different then how we live in our homes now -- so interesting. The gardens surrounding the property are also so lovely. Here's my one issue with the historical site and tour -- when we inquired we were told it was 'less than an hour for sure' depending on how many people/questions. While the tour guide was nice enough, he was verrrrrrry long winded. There were 6 of us.. and that tour was most definitely longer than an hour. Not sure if that's the case every time but just something to be prepared for should you decide to visit. Cost for the tours was supposed to be $5 but during out visit they had just begun some restorations and certain spaces were closed off... so they didn't insist on guest paying. They still accepted donations though. Parking is also free, fyi. And the mansion is easy to get to from routes 23, 46 and 80.

Our intention anyway was to go hiking. That was accomplished. From the area of the tower, which sits higher than the castle, some panoramic views can be seen ofthe surrounding cityscape. You can also find other hiking trails that lead you further along the hilltop. A perfectly beautiful day also makes this spot... - lovely for a picnic - picturesque for a photoshoot - ideal for a background in your vlog - an escape from the noise of a busy week - nice for a nap or daydream - sweet for something romantic - zen for meditation

I took a tour of Lambert Castle a couple days prior and felt the need to explore the tower up the…read morehill. It was beautiful! Elegant stone work. A trellis covered in vines. Views of nature all the way to NYC that would've been glorious many decades ago. The valley is a bit over developed now, but still impressive. This tower would've been an extension of the extravagant home below. Just walking around it gives you a sense of power and incorporation into nature on this unique mountain in the middle of a densely populated city. Garret mountain, holds this gem, and many others. Well worth a visit!

Oh heyy, there's a new playground in town…read more It's not the biggest but it's well done and tucked away from the road so as you walk the pathway it feels like you're on an adventure. The theme of this new park is giving wildlife/tree house vibes. They've got some owls perched in a few locations and the kiddos can press a few buttons and hear what a wolf or raccoon sound like. Sign says kids 5+ and I agree.. with the exception of a toddler swing this playground isn't for the little littles. Bonus -- this playground is located right next to a bunch of fields (town website says soccer & softball) which would be good for running and getting that extra energy out.. and also the Preakness Brook, which is lovely on a fall day and fun for exploring. For parking you'll want to find a [street] spot at either end of the park but the playground is located farther down on Oakley Way (path is located about halfway between Graham and Ashwood).
