My lovely bride and I stopped in for a late lunch on a Wednesday afternoon in March 2026. We had an interesting conversation with the owner, Brando. He is a very welcoming guy from Texas. The atmosphere is something like a classic Baja restaurant with a heavy emphasis on American sports bar. I ordered the coconut shrimp, my bride ordered the guacamole, and we shared an order of onion rings. Everything was excellent. The guacamole comes with a delicious salsa mexicana on the side. Everything we try is wonderful. The burritos are huge. I recommend going wet if you can. The red sauce is goood, I take home the burrito - the first one you see under the menu for burritos. They make the best Limonada de Natural in the area. My wife does the mineral one and loves it. We go about once a week. You meet a lot of locals, which as a local is a plus. Get the guacamole home run, pico de gallo, I've had other dishes too, the Yakori or however it is spelled, awesome. Leftovers. From the moment we walked in to this spot, we felt the vibe Brando and Kevin have created. You instantly feel like a regular. The reason I love to travel is a place like Shaka's! The ambiance was perfect, Baja! Very cool place with great vibe. The service was outstanding! My wife had the Tortilla Soup and it was 5-star and I had the Blackened Yellowtail with mashed potatoes and veggies....it was very good...maybe 4-star. Definitely my favorite spot in Cerritos Beach! The vibe here is spot on. Relaxed and friendly, and the owners and staff make you feel like a local. The food is the star of the show. A smallish menu but everything on it is spectacular and hits the spot after a long day at the beach or a stroll around Todos Santos. We came to Shakas at the suggestion of our landlords. The atmosphere is welcoming and "beachy" which I liked. The owner Brando was extremely friendly and helpful. He made us feel like regulars. The drinks were good and the food was fine. We ordered the quesadilla and pad Thai. read more

Brando, one of the owners, took great care of us on our recent visit to Cerritos...So good, in fact, that we had dinner there 4 nights in a row. Shaka's coconut shrimp is simply delicious, and we also had the Snook (a fish none of us had ever tried, but couldn't get enough of)...Then there was the Key Lime Pie, oh my...The staff is attentive and friendly, and they took great care of us every time. The outdoor bar and seating gives the place a great rustic vibe, with a surf, skateboard, and sports theme that is as laid back as the name implies. Great, convenient location with very friendly service. The drinks were great (kids had homemade limeade and I had a pina colada). Food was forgettable. The burgers didn't have any char and looked like standard frozen patties. I've had better, more fresh coconut shrimp across Mexico and I asked for a fried fish sandwich but got a dried grilled one instead. The prices are comparable to what you get at an american bar. I guess I was hoping for better tasting food. Prob would give it 3.5 stars if that was an option. Would definitely go back fro drinks and to watch American sports when I'm in the mood. read more

Brando the bomb. A true southern gentleman that loves his Astros! First time going here and the California taco (fried avacado with slaw) was the best. Great place to go for happy hour and generally the food has been good. Not as consistent as it had been. I know it's hard to get good cooks to stay for any length of time.
