I made my rating in a puppy daze. I realized how high of a review I gave years ago, and it would be a disservice not to rerate the store. When we brought the puppy home, he had parasites that lasted for MANY MONTHS. The store did pay for his treatment, but it was incessant and was so hard to get him better. A new puppy shouldn't come sick. He was home less than an hour and pooped blood all over the floor. There is no way that his first bloody poop was with us, it had to be a problem before we got him. I've heard so many bad things about this store in the past few years since I got my dog. I can't recommend anyone get a puppy here. I paid 7k for a Doberman in October 2021- 2 days after getting him home he was vomiting, non stop diarrhea (still has)- and uncontrollable peeing (still has)- He was hospitalized for 5 days with kennel cough. After that was under control - I was going back to the hospital literally once a week. The vomiting doesn't stop neither does the diarrhea- After many test and going to the specialist we found out Polo, my doberman has an diffuse esophagus- what does this mean? well- he can't keep his food down. because the esophagus doesn't contract - this will leas to malnutrition- he has to take like 5 pills a day and there is no cure for it. We can't find out why he has diarrhea because it is dangerous to put him to sleep to do a biopsy because of his esophagus. I spend a lot of money with many trainers to figure out why he pees so much- because we thought it was a behavior thing- Still haven't figure that out either- Do to the fact that Polo vomits and has diarrhea all day I can't have him run free in the house for obvious reasons! Polo is now over 60lbs and he has to be in an area of the house that's about 200 sq feet - not fair to him. They did cover the medical bills- but if you read your contract it clearly states that if the puppy has a illness that he was born with you can return them- Now, I Was in contact with Tina all this time- when we finally the final diagnosis - Tina was never at the store- I was told she would back next week that she was on vacation and its been 2 weeks now and that she will be back next week... For the love of god DO NOT BUY A DOG HERE!!!!!! Went in with my husband, we had visited a few puppy stores. The dogs in this store were by far the worst taken care of I saw anywhere!! Most of them were sleeping which at first I thought was normal for puppies who were playing all day but no! We were sticking our hands in (which is crazy no other store lets people touch all of the dogs) trying to wake them up 90% of them seemed sick. We asked to see a few one dog was falling over he couldn't walk right. The next dog seemed so out of it. I mentioned I loved shih tzus. A man told me they had one but he was sick, but he'll bring him out. He brought me a puppy that was full on WHEEZING. The poor dog was so sick. He put him in my hands and I held him sneezing and wheezing. My husband and I did not want to put him down with the toys as they were letting other family's in the room to meet dogs. The man said it's fine put him down and threw a toy for him! We were uncomfortable and gave the dog back. They handed us ANOTHER DOG. Immediately, I said we just were holding the sick one. If I could give this review no star I would. I came in looking to buy a dog. I asked if I was able to play with one of the dogs. After waiting for about 15 minutes I was denied service. Either the owner or the manager came up to me and said it wasn't a petting zoo. There were multiple people in there playing with dogs but I was denied. Even though there were others there playing with multiple dogs at once. Most of the dogs looked malnourished and had poop all over them. It was the 4th day we got our cute puppy and she became lethargic and sick. We took her to the vet and they said there were inflammation in her bloodwork and she had diarrhea. They didn't even bother to help cover the vet visit fee because the vet clinic we went to is "not covered" by them. I said that the vet doctor told me our puppy doesn't have a good reserve considering she's 8 weeks old, so she cannot wait any longer to be treated, and at that time the vet ER near our home couldn't take her because of 5 hr waiting time. The vet hospital that this store partners with is so far from where we live, so we had no choice but to go to the one near our home: The manager is rude and wouldn't even talk nicely to at least negotiate with us on how we can treat our pet. I have waited over a year to tell my story about my dog I purchased from this location. Backstory: bf and I wanted a dog. We wanted a lab but living in an apartment at the time we knew a 90lb lab wouldn't be fair for her. We found the breed "beagador." It's a beagle and lab mix, so lab personality with a beagle size. This mix isn't very common and during the first surge of Covid it was already impossible to find puppies, let alone this specific breed. My friend told me about shakeapaw. I knew a puppy store wasn't the way to go but I looked at the website anyway. When I looked they had a fawn colored female beagador. I was shocked. It was exactly what we were looking for. We went to look and fell in love. (This backstory is for the ppl who say if you get a puppy from a store, you're in idiot). We take her home. 3 days in she is lethargic and throwing up, not eating. To the hospital we go. She has kennel cough and parvovirus. She survives! We call her our miracle baby. Well well well...... 4 weeks later she is lame (limping) on her back right leg. We take her back because she's limping, and now crying and screaming. Not a single vet can figure it out. Growing pains? We change her food and they supply anti-inflammatories. Pain continues. Back to hospital. Tramadol/muscle relaxers on board. No pain is managed. She is hospitalized for IV pain medication. We get her back, she's somewhat better with a fentanyl patch. Then it starts all over again in less than 24 hours. We drive back to the hospital. One vet mentions meningitis. They hospitalize her. They run a PCR panel from the other hospitalizations. It comes back positive for distemper virus. Her myoclonus (leg jerking and lameness) is not muscular, it's neurological. Distemper is incurable, fatal, and multi systemic. She was never vaccinated, shakeapaw lied. We took her to one of the best neurologists on Long Island. MRI and spinal taps done. Started on prednisone. She no longer has pain. A lot more occurred that for all intents and purposes I'll save because this would be a novel. Just know after prednisone is got mange, TWICE. We took her to a family vet who said he hasn't seen distemper since his training in Mexico. Please make sure your pets are vaccinated!! She has two bad back legs for the rest of her life, but she does just fine. She's a fighter and our life. I like to believe we saved her from that horrible store and there is a reason why I ever checked their website in the first place. I will say after I called shakeapaw and I supplied proof of vet bills they ripped up the contract and we got her for free. That was after I told then I'd go to the media and sought legal counsel. But that's not really gonna help anyone because of "buyer beware" laws. So PLEASE, buyer beware. We went through the roughest summer of our lives and that's not even saying what our girl Luna went through. Yelp isn't letting me post any pictures. I don't know why. read more

Brando was the perfect pooch - and was a loyal, happy and healthy best friend for 10 years. When he passed, I swore I wasn't going to get another dog. And then I stopped in to the Lynbrook location and met Lola, a beautiful brindle pup with spectacular white markings. She was the most beautiful puppy I've ever seen. So happy, healthy, and full of energy. I am happy to say she and I have been together for 4 fun-filled years. And we go back and visit the amazing staff at Shake-A-Paw for our food and treats. And I can say with confidence, the staff and management truly care. Everyone I know who has gotten a dog at North Shore has had issues. He lived on for 14 years with us, he has been there throughout the years of me growing up also. Sadly, he passed away in 7/3/19 from many health complications. I got my puppy (a 2 month old Shiba Inu) from Shake A Paw on 11/20/2019. He had diarrheas the first day he came home and turns out to be because of parasites when I toke him to the vet. Also his health condition in general is not good. He is sneezing, and the diarrheas didn't get better even if he toke 4 medicines per day. I already visited the vet 3 times during the week. First of all, Shake A Paw should've checked every pup is healthy before selling them to customers, especially when my pup costs 2,800. Secondly, I feel very upset that I don't see them being sorry or provided any useful information when I called them to let them know my pup is really sick. She was from a puppy mill and when we went to get her spayed, the vet said he organs were not in the correct places, likely from inbreeding parents. I have heard of places like this. But have never experienced one in person. I made a comment to the owner and was kicked out. What you don't see is the puppy mills behind the scenes from where these pups come from. Dogs that have chains wrapped around their necks and don't get any love from the owners, they are only there to make money. Most of the time the only thing they get is an igloo plastic cover or house and a 4 wheeler that brings food twice a day. Then when they are in heat the breeding starts. Once they have had several litters the female dogs are taken to auctions where they are sold to the highest bidder, usually between $50 and $100. However some go for more depending on the situation. Our rescue bought 10 large breed dogs for $900 last year. The female dogs once brought into the rescue are completely lost and very scared to the point you can't touch them and they won't take a treat. Over a 1/4 of them are put down due to this. The others in my experience never fully recovered and have walked circles in our back yard wearing a dirt path around it. In my opinion it's better to find a reputable breeder in the United States and buy from them or adopt from the humane society or a rescue where you can meet the dogs first and love on them. But places like this are very disturbing and I was very much taken back by all the puppies there. If clients could see where these puppies came from they would never support business like this. read more

An update as of July 2020. After two and a half years of fighting to keep our dog alive he passed due to extreme medical conditions that Shake A Paw was aware of when he was sold to us. I warn every single person considering buying a dog from them to run in the opposite direction. Our family is absolutely devastated at the loss of our 2.5 year old dog. Unfortunately our story is not uncommon. We have kept in contact with other families that bought dogs around the same time as us and the majority have passed away due to medical conditions. Please think twice before supporting this business. I hope the owner rots in hell along with all of the staff that lied to us over and over on the phone before we sued them and won. To the complete idiot who wrote don't believe the hype and gave this dump a 5 star review, you're one of the lucky ones who got a somewhat healthy dog from Shake A Paw, you are the EXCEPTION and everyone SHOULD believe the hype that your puppy will have severe health issues when purchased at Shake A Paw. The facts don't lie, we successfully sued Shake A Paw and won and the vet that is affiliated with them wrote an unfit for sale letter.
