If you feel like wanting to walk a dog. They are looking for volunteers. Just bring an ID and a phone with you. Children btwn the ages of 13-16 just be accompanied by adult. 16 yrs old can walk the dog. Walking the dog is minimum of 15-45 mins and hrs btwn 11 am and back by 6 pm. They also have cats and other animals like birds, hamster, reptiles, and other small creatures that are in need of rescue and require an adoption fee. Price varies. My daughter and I went and walked pumpkin. She is so cute. We walked for 30 mins. We are going to come back again

Had an amazing experience rescuing a puppy from Sean Casey. He answered all my (long and annoying) questions, didnt rush me and he is there for me now when I have questions. Amazing rescue, he just wants to save all the animals.

Very grateful to Sean Casey Animal rescue for their lovely parakeet adoptions. If your looking for a new furry friend (dogs, cats), birds or other animals please consider this amazing rescue. The team at Sean Casey do a super job with helping homeless animals find good, loving homes. I rescued a parakeet a few weeks prior to reaching out to Sean Casey. Parker my newly adopted parakeet needed a friend. Parker is such a cool, laid back, chill bird. Did not want him to die of loneliness. Arrived at Sean Casey's on a Sunday afternoon. They have tons of parakeets, and larger birds such as conures, and macaw's (check availability). Thought I found the perfect little blue bird hanging on the side seemingly chill like Parker. As soon as "Blu" our newly adopted bird arrived home to his huge new open air cage with sunlight, plenty of fresh food, mango/ papaya bird treats, and millet sticks. Blu went crazy, Blu flew around the house, he could not calm his excitement. Blu drove Parker parakeet crazy. I gave Blu a week or so to acclimate into his new domain. Parker wanted nothing to do with him, then finally Blu started to get into the chill mode. Blu has become Parker's best friend, they fly around together, get into mischief together, and dominate their food bowls despite their being two bowls of food in the cage. Thank you Sean Casey for the great experience of our new addition Blu, he is a happy, lively, mischievous little guy, that brings lots of joy to Parker, and our home.

This shelter is doing Gaia's work. I adopted a chinchilla that had been waiting for a while and she's happy and healthy, not anxious or scared of people. She was clearly treated well. During the adoption I could tell that the folks at Sean Casey are there to defend and protect animals, not just house them. An urban shelter in a real neighborhood is going to be limited in size, but it's so valuable to have a local, grassroots organization taking care of Brooklyn's own animals. I highly recommend adopting from - and donating to! - SCAR.

Cat who was so huge and beautiful. But many others looked sickly and unhappy

Part of me feels like the issues with this place probably started with their desire to help animals in need. The other part of me though, can tell there's something really shady about this place and if it started from a desire to help, it ended up being driven by greed. They will allow adoption of single kittens even if they're bonded and if you're willing to take home a bonded pair they'll still charge you separately for each kitten. The adoption fee of $200 per cat is not cheap, especially for the sickly condition the animal appear to be in! One of the kittens they told us had been medically cleared for adoption, had obvious piles of skinny worms throughout his litter box!! Then there's the massive overcrowding. The place is very small and cramped, stacked almost to the ceiling with cats, birds, reptiles and other animals in the same room! The birds were going crazy in there raining their debris down on the cats. Some cats, being kept in their carriers were stacked on top of each other on the floor! And the section were the dogs are kept is not even accessible to the public, but the amount of barking coming from that part is telling. Then most obvious is the AWFUL SMELL omg! If you've been to the ASPCA or even the North Shore Animal League you know that it's possible to have very clean and tidy facilities. But when you take in WAY more animals than your space can accommodate, it won't be clean! It also worth noting that none of the staff wore masks and there seemed to be no effort at controlling the amount of people who entered the shop. Lastly, but certainly not least, as we left the shop, they happen to have their back gate open and we caught a glimpse of a HUGE turtle or tortoise! It was outside on the concrete, I saw no grass just piles of empty pet kennels and the giant turtle that was probably 3ft all around. As we passed by we heard one of the workers tell a younger worker "you gotta remember to close this (referring to the gate) because you know we can't have people seeing back here"! Like I said, S H A D Y Y Y !! If I were you, I'd try my luck else where like the NYC Animal Care Centers, the ASPCA or if you can afford it the Brooklyn Animal Action Agency.

THIS IS A NO KILL SHELTER!!!! :) I've been volunteering with Sean Casey since the Sandy storm and I have to say they are one of the best shelter I've worked with. Their goal is to help the animals and their mission is to find them homes. Their shelter houses a lot of pets including dogs, cats, rodents, rabbits, reptiles and birds, so if you're looking to adopt a pet, there are many to choose from at the shelter. There is an adoption fee but it's quite reasonable considering all the vet bills, housing and feeding cost that it takes for them to run this place. As for me, I volunteer because I can't own a pet due to my work schedule. They staff are always wonderful and super lay back. What I like most about Sean Casey are the staff. They truly are the heroes behind the scene. Dogs can be skittish so I'm sure they got nipped many times but yet when I return a dog after a walk, the staff would greet them with hugs and kisses. That for me is priceless!!! They never answer the phone or respond to any voicemail. All these dogs are left in cages majority of the day.

AMA works strictly with sick, abused, and neglected cats and dogs (although I'm completely a cat person), which is more up my alley than working with perfectly healthy animals (my cat is special needs - he's three legged, so that's how I got into working with sick/special needs animals). I've been with AMA for about six months now, and while I wish I had discovered this rescue first, I unfortunately came across Animal Haven first (AMA all the way - AMA is much cleaner and nicer than Animal Haven). AMA is my favorite Brooklyn shelter, and I know people who have adopted from or volunteer/work at other Brooklyn shelters and have somewhat of an attitude when it should be about the animals in need and not about one's ego. Yeah the adoption fees here at AMA are mandatory (unlike the ASPCA where I also foster - they have voluntary adoption fees based on what you can afford; nothing is required besides being a good quality adopter in the eyes of the adoption team there) and higher than you'll see elsewhere, but the animals are genuinely cared for and loved here. The adoption fees aren't the highest in the NYC area for cats and dogs, but they're higher than most other shelters that I know of. It's hard to not get attached to some of the animals there, and I can name a handful of cats that I've grown attached to since the end of March when I came into the shelter for my first shift: Chewy, Spring, Autumn, Tiny, Puff, Kiki, Sushi, Chili, Maple, and my foster, Muffin. It's hard watching them get adopted, but it's also super exciting to see them find where they belong. Here are some final words - if you like cleaning, socializing, meeting new people in person, having some form of structure to your week, and getting out of the house, then you should volunteer in person at the shelter. If working with too many animals at once is overwhelming to you but you still want to help out, consider fostering - AMA covers 100% of costs (including vet visits which any animal lover knows can get expensive), and Mariya is always available to talk to if you need help.

We decided to foster Alfafa over the holidays to potentially adopt if he was a good fit for the household. It's very clear from my interactions with them that they value every animal dearly and take the extra effort to make sure every potential adopter/foster is the best fit possible. Their application is thorough, they take their time to make sure there's a good match, and it was clear the cats were well taken care of at the shelter. I highly highly recommend anyone considering to adopt or foster to work with AMA, I can't overstate how much respect I have for their work, mission, and the people there.
