Funky and eclectic record store -vinyl, CD's, tapes. Has a wonderful selection of all types of music from country to rock to rap to jazz to classical and everything in between! Browse new records or a selection of gently used ones. There are even some books and other items. A definite stop for audiophiles and a fun stop for all others!

Was in Northside for other business and saw a large truck setup outside off Shake It Records. Then, there was a long line at the register. Oh, then some free beer..?! It was Record Store Day! Lots of vinyl records, new and used. Now I have a reason to attend a bring your own vinyl event in the area. Plenty of other items such as CDs, T-shirt's and even kid friendly items. A great reason to have a day hanging out in Northside.

I grew up in this neighborhood and I've heard amazing things about this place for years! But I'd never taken the time to really check it out. Hubby and I got to leave the little one with my mom and go for a walk down Hamilton. This place was the perfect stop. Along with a ton of music, they also offer a very interesting selection of books and movies! It's very easy to spend a full hour here and find a few things to take home.

I am a sucker for retro music stores. I pretty much drag my husband to everyone I see. This place has a very authentic, even nostalgic feel. It is very well organized and they have just about everything you could ever want and then some. From vinyl to dvd to books to retro collectibles, this place has it! If you are a true entertainment fan, plan to spend some time browsing. What are you looking for? Vintage movie? Check! Classic records? Check! Christmas music?! Check! Magazines, comic books and a Biz Markie doll? Got it! My personal fave was the Golden Girls coloring book! Haha! Definitely worth a stop.

Shake it Records is one of the best music stores in all of Cincinnati. Their selection of vinyl, cds, and music related merch is unparalleled by any other store in the area. We went in for Record Store Day this year and the place was seriously packed. Like nothing I've seen before there. The line for the register stretched to the back of the store. You could hardly walk through their vinyl area downstairs. The energy was pretty great and they had a DJ there to keep things going. It was awesome seeing this place this busy. I always find something to buy when I come here. They usually carry things I can't find anywhere else (sure I could always order them online but what's the fun it that?). I've never been to a live event here but I'm sure they're great. It's really great to see a place like this stay afloat since so many similar stores have closed in the last ten years or so. The staff here is always really cool and knowledgeable and helpful. For as busy as it was when we went, everything was organized and even the long lonnng line went by pretty quickly. If you're into music and you've never been here, you really do need to check this place out.

It may be small but you will be surprise with the selections of music. Everything was categorized and easy to find. Jazz, Rock, R&B Soul, Soundtrack, Rarities, etc. I would rather go to a record shop that is not too huge. It can be overwhelming and overkill when there is way too much. My boyfriend and I found quite a few old school vinyls for reasonable price. There was even one soundtrack I was shocked to find and it was only $5.95! Definitely made my day. Besides vinyls they sell T-shirts and even turntables. They even have a listening station. The owner was very friendly on giving me tips on finding some good speakers for my new turntable I got for Christmas. I was pleased with MetaModern Music and can't wait to go back to purchase more vinyls!

Initially when shuffling through some of the rock albums I was pleasantly surprised to see some different titles that aren't super common. BUT its when I got over to Hip-Hop that my eyes lit up. One of the better selections I have seen for sure. Already regret not snagging the Chance 3 vinyl so I gotta plan another trip over here soon. Despite that mistake on my end I still left with two gems, A Love Letter To You 4 - Trippie Redd & Madvillainy - Madvillain. The latter of the two I have been looking for and never found in-store. J.C was super nice and actually sacrificed the cassette from his own collection since he had no new copies for sale at the time. Unfortunately I didn't have time to dive too deep into the smoke section. That being said it was a neat setup and I know plenty of people who would appreciate being able to pick up some smoke accessories to accompany their listening experience. Really like this joint and I am lucky to have stumbled upon this gem of a shop, check it out!

It's a rather large space with records shelved everywhere, on every wall, on every surface in fact except the ceiling. There is nothing new here, and the only nod to "record store conventions" is a small selection of newly arrived used records right up front. They have one of the largest selections of records I've seen at any record store anywhere, but the organization is a bit disheveled, so be prepared to spend a couple (enjoyable) hours here. Once you work your way to the back of the store, you'll notice a dimly lit staircase going downstairs. You'll think about whether or not you're supposed to go down there, but when you finally decide to, you'll find another equally large space in the basement, filled even more haphazardly with much more obscure stuff. You'll see a corner in the back with thousands of records tossed into a heap on the ground, and you'll find really obscure genres and collections from vinyl's infancy down here. This is my favorite part to visit, even if it can be frustrating navigating through it all. The pricing in general is fair. I get the impression the prices are determined on a whim without any research in advance. On any given trip I find records that are both greatly overpriced and insanely cheap. I tend to ignore Discogs when I'm here and just go with the flow. If you're in OTR this is a must visit, even if you don't buy anything. And when you're done, stop next door for a coffee at Iris, which is owned by the same folks.

So excited, that I am ashamed of how long it took me to actually get down to Another Part of the Forest and check it out for myself, a shame that was only compounded after I completed what was truly a good record store outing. Although Another Part of the Forest is located directly on Main Street, it can still be very easy to miss during the day time (at night you have the luxury of being able to see the records through the window), so for any future visitors just look for Iris Book Cafe and it is literally directly next door to that. Once I made it inside the store, I was immediately struck by two things, how cramped it was and how friendly the owner was. As I mentioned, the place is very cramped due to the immense amount of vinyl stuffed into this small space. Although the selection was pretty good, I have to admit that the physical quality of the records here are not as high as they would be if you found them at Shake It or Everybody's. However, the prices very reflect what it is you are buying and what condition it is in. What really made this a four star review for me and not a three star however, was the friendliness of the owner. I didn't catch his name but he greeted us with a smile and a hello as soon as we walked in the door and you could tell he was genuinely excited we were showing interest in his shop. On top of this, I had about $20 work of records I had picked out and he knowingly sold them to me for only $15. I have NEVER had anyone at any record store knowingly sell me something for less than what I was willing to pay. I hope that the friendliness and devotion shown by this man and Another Part of the Forest allow this store to thrive in what is becoming one of my favorite Cincinnati neighborhoods for years to come.
