Updating a previous review, bumping them up to four stars as a group of friends and I played there just a couple days ago and the course is in phenomenal shape All staff that we met throughout the course of our round, we're very professional and courteous Price just a tad higher than your other really nice golf courses in the area, but I think it's worth it with a senior rate discounted for weekdays Did not go inside for any refreshments as I had an appointment I had to get to Pay sub play was pretty good. I gave this course a 4 my son and I played here yesterday July to he 17th....I typically would never pay that much to play golf for us 2 158 bucks but the day was very quiet and peaceful and we had a great time Gps on all 5he carts a bit annoying if you drove somewhere you were not supposed to go staff was excellent....we played Lakeside and Woodlands a few tee boxes completely burnt up and a few fairways in bad shape hard to understand since they have a big lake on property greens were very nice .......we had a good time ....it was busy but not crowded we did 18 in 3 hrs.....beautiful place treat yourself read more

we had 4 tee times Sunday starting at 11:30 starting on Woodlands and finishing on Lakeside. After we teed off, the starter drove up and told us we had to let a group behind us go ahead because they were making the turn. ok, no big deal. we did. then as we were putting out still on the first hole, the starter rode up again and told us we needed to let this other group play through because they were making the turn and were with the previous group we let go thru. What? the starter said they got behind on the front. so we were just supposed to go with it. it's now 12:15 and we're just now teeing off #2. the "golfers we let play thru did NOT know how to play golf, they were bad, teeing off too long of tees and searching constantly for lost balls. it took over 5 hours to play. The starter would never have asked a group of men to wait while 2 really bad golfer groups played through. it was completely disrespectful and insulting to our group. Also the courses weren't in any better shape than the County courses we play regularly. $73 for that was money wasted. Our womens golf organization is over 195 women in the tristate and we won't be back to play Shaker Run. Big mistake, big. huge. read more

Finally went to play golf here yesterday. Moved into town 2 months ago and wanted to check it out as it's only 20 minutes from our house. Brian in the pro shop was welcoming and gave me an idea of which two 9's to play first. So I started on Woodlands and finished on Lakeside. Played single and the pace was GREAT on a Sunday!? The Woodlands 9 is freaking beautiful, challenging and in great shape. A little damp from the rain, but tee boxes, fairways, sand traps and greens were in really great shape overall. Great driving range also. I have played 6-7 courses within 20 miles of here now and Shaker Run is worth it. $77 is not bad, but $52 twilight rate was even better. AND they give you about 20-25 balls to hit before your round. I will definitely be back soon to try the 3rd 9 holes and re-play any of the other 2. Super challenging and BEAUTIFUL views of trees/ponds and Armco Park Lake! HIGHLY recommend! read more

What used to be an upper tier public golf complex has become a bunch of holes jammed into very tight urban development. There are many newer homes/condos on some holes that were built way too close, I mean exactly on the right/left sides of the fairways at 175-275+ yards. These home have to get pummeled by golf balls and the homeowners are going to have to deal with this forever. They should just sell off the Meadows course and let the home builders develop the rest of the land. The range is nice, the putting green is a sad little area tucked back by the lake, which is fine but sub standard for such a big golf facility trying to service three 9 hole courses. Overall the course was in pretty good shape. The food area was not even open at 8 AM on Sunday before our tee time. Not driving 30-40 minutes to play here ever again. read more

we attended a family and friends Christmas party there this year. The staff was absolutely amazing. Food was very good and the venue itself was so nicely decorated. I played this course when it opened in 1979. Then I relocated out of state and finally got to play it again recently. I love the layout, especially the views over the water that reveal the 14th green on the old Armco Park course, where I learned to golf (many fond memories). The course was probably not in its best condition, but overall, it was a very enjoyable round of challenging golf, but not too difficult. I hope it's not another 39 years before I get the opportunity to play it again. read more

Wow, what a terrible experience. Booked for Lakeside and Woodlands but when I check-in, I'm informed that there are two outings going on so we're put on Meadows. Meadows is in TERRIBLE shape. The bunkers were not playable - not a single one. The greens were in bad shape as well. Fine, we finish 9 on Meadows and then we're told to tee-off on Lakeside. 2 holes into our 9 on Lakeside, the tell us that we need to go to Woodlands instead. There was no one in front of us but they forced us to switch 9s. We get to Woodlands and there is a 3 group backup on the first tee. At this point, I've had enough. Go inside and they won't issue a refund. They offer a gift certificate for 18 holes but won't refund my credit card. Finally, they call the manager and I'm thinking this is going to get resolved. No. The manager will only offer a gift certificate. The worst part, at no time did anyone apologize. The only thing worse the condition of the course was the customer service. They should be ashamed. Don't waste your money. Too many other great courses around Cincinnati/Dayton. read more

Played the Lakeside/Woodlands 9s. Checked-in in the golf shop, where the Shop Assistant had his feet up on the counter and went on to complain about a few things as we settled-up. Restaurant wasn't open at 7:30am on a Thursday, not allowing us to purchase water/coffee/Gatorade on a 85 degree day. Carts were very clean and ran well. Golf course is very, very challenging. Fairly good shape. A few tee boxes were awful and some sand traps thin on sand, but overall quite good. Good beer selection on tap, and cold sandwiches got the job done when we made the turn. Really nice facilities. Could be an absolute gem if they work on their attention to detail and service. Slightly overpriced overall. Service was really, really bad. Would play here maybe once a year, solely for the golf course. read more

This place is a sad excuse for a golf course. Terrible conditions, rude and surly staff, condo construction everywhere. It would be better suited as a grazing area for livestock. My guess is they ran out of money to properly maintain the courses, but that's no excuse for the lousy attitudes we encountered. Stay away. There are far better options in the area. read more

Very good first-time experience! I saw a bunch of marginal reviews, but perhaps they're all older. It may be a smidge pricey, but the course layout is genuinely fantastic, in my humble opinion. I think it plays harder than the slope would indicate, and even though it ate me up a bit, I'm really looking forward to trying it again. There are some truly beautiful holes. The gentleman who checked me in wasn't as friendly as I'd prefer, but he wasn't rude. The starters were friendly, the gentleman who handled the carts was very nice, the inside food/beverage/bartender was very nice, and the beverage cart girl (Amy) was outstanding, and even went inside to bring back things that weren't in her cart. (She offered . . . twice.) I wish some of the patrons did a better job of fixing their divots and ball marks, and I wish the maintenance folks were better about raking the bunkers, but I've sadly gotten used to that at many courses, especially after rain. The electric carts were in good shape, and the course is fairly well marked. All in all, it was a positive experience, and I happen to think the course design is exceptional. GOLF COURSE-- Used to be spectacular, even written up in a beautiful hardcover coffee table book (which I own) titled: The Top 100 Public Golf Courses in America. That was 20 years ago. Up til 5 years ago, the same held true. You could: play the entire course without seeing one single house, anywhere; play a perfectly manicured course designed for difficult championship play with 4 teeboxes; and experience a truly awesome test of golf in the countryside of southern Ohio. (Course design by Arthur Hills., need I say more?) Now that Fischer Homes has purchased much of the land in 2008, swaths of formerly unspoiled woods, meadows, and fields are junked up with crappy homes, crappy apartments, and gone is the formerly pristine environment. The Shaker experience is somewhat ruined for many who have great memories of championship golf in the country. Adding insult to injury, the course is ragged these days, with mowings occurring far less frequently than needed and few if any course improvements in the last 5-8 years; terrible tee markers whose colors (indicating yardage from each teebox) don't even match the permanent granite tee markers that grace each hole. Shaker management, what is going on here? ENTRY TO SHAKER-- Formerly a magnificent and memorable gated, walled, and impeccably landscaped entryway, the course entrance is now a virtual maze through a dense neighborhood (PS What was your partnership thinking with this new entrance? This is a travesty!). WTF guys? How many complaints about this do you need to hear before you rework the plan and reopen the old entryway? RESTAURANT & FOOD SERVICE-- My experience has been abysmal: about the same quality as the golf course these days. Really BAD food, bad service (as in, I don't care about you or what the kitchen serves up for you); run-down outdoor patio deck and furniture. Worst of all they seemed to be out of almost all food items this week, and what was finally served us was an embarrasment to the kitchen and the restaurant itself. Unsolicited Advice to Shaker Run GM: A) Restore the old grand entrance next year, or quicker; it will make a huge difference to a significant percentage of your customers. B) Skip all the food items (you don't have them available anyway) and focus on making GREAT burgers, brats, metts, grilled chicken sandwiches, with superb extras and add-ons. Just that and nothing else. Offer 2 or 3 sides that your kitchen can make well, with some help: cole slaw, salad, potato salad. Do something great and please your guests with simplicity and stellar food, however small the menu. DO SOMETHING!! I've eaten 3 times at your restaurant in 10 months and I give you a solid F for your food operation. Overall Bad experience at Shaker, again. read more

This review is not for their golf course (which of the little I saw looked great) but rather for their service as an event holder. Shaker Run is where my wife and I held our wedding ceremony and reception, and I highly recommend it to anyone in the Ohio area. The place is great for a wedding because you can hold both your ceremony and reception there. The pavilion is a great building surrounded in windows that gave a great view of a large pond and trees turning bright orange and yellow for the fall. It's just a short walk away from the main hall which is where we held the reception. Our wedding had around 200 guests and fit all of them comfortably. I'm told the place can hold around 300 if needed. As our wedding planning was occurring, Shaker Run did a great job of meeting our needs and providing helpful tips as well. During our reception, Julie the event planner, came up to us and said the sunset outside was gorgeous and we should get a photo. That really impressed me. I was also told by our guests that the drinks were quite alcoholic and the waitstaff was very pleasant. I was glad to use Shaker Run for our special day and recommend it to anyone in the Ohio area. read more

If you are ever out in the Lebanon area, grab your clubs, because this course is great! The meadows front 9 is beautiful. The course is not forgiving, but has great views, fast greens, and deep brush. If you want to up the anti, you can play Lakeside for about $10 more dollars. The staff however is rude and unhelpful. While the overall course offers great play, the staff could be a little more polite and concerning. read more

Course was in rough shape, greens were burnt out and many bunkers had piles of sand in them that they hadn't spread out. We had to drop outside of them as they were unplayable. Some tee boxes had almost no grass. Plus, they are building houses/condos all over the Lakeside 9, and have added out of bounds stakes literally 10 yards off the fairway on 3-4 holes. While we were in the 4th fairway, the grounds crew came out and changed the hole location on the green of the hole we were playing! They had us start on Woodside which doesn't have a putting green by the 1st tee, it's all these things that add up to a poor experience. This course lost all of its character, charm and playability - I used to love this track but I will never go back. The customer service was poor, not overly helpful staff. The pro shop has no merchandise in it, I needed to buy a couple sleeves of balls and they didn't carry any Bridgestone balls at all which seemed odd. We only saw the drink cart on the 10th tee and 18th green (this was on a hot Sunday late morning), which is essentially worthless. Never saw a ranger once out on the course, and this again was a Sunday when you would assume the course is crowded. To top it off, I left my portable speaker in the cart when I took it to the cart barn not surprisingly "nobody saw it or turned it in" when I called the next day to ask about it. Hope someone is enjoying their free Bose speaker. There are plenty of better options in the area, it's certainly not worth the $50 I paid for 18 holes with a cart. read more

I'm personally tired of reading negative comments about Shaker Run from 2 or 3 years ago! It is NOT the course today that existed when the owner was a Major Golf Management Company that raped the course without providing the proper maintenance program needed to maintain it. They simply took all the profits then dumped it when the course lost it's reputation as a premier facility. Today we have an excellent Owner and Management team that has turned the corner returning Shaker Run to 27 holes of tough, outstanding golf! Play the proper set of tees for your handicap and you will finish in under 4 hours! With fast greens in excellent course conditions I'll bet 99 percent of players can't break 80! If you want to play a championship course, you'll find it at Shaker Run. Played Lakeside and Woodlands on 9/23 with a family member. Have played this course off and on, when I'm visiting friends & family, for the past 25 years. WOW has it gone downhill. Course and hole design has always been top notch but the playing condition has really plunged. The fairways were so overwatered that spray from our cart tires flew a foot whenever we rode on them. The area had not had rain for a couple weeks but you would have thought a long thunderstorm had just quit. Rather than the typical divot from an iron being a few inches we were getting 8-10" long divots flying from our irons. Just walking caused heel spray to fly up the back of our legs. A significant minority of the tees were just the opposite, very hard and dried out. It looked like the tee blocks had not been moved in a couple weeks with all the bare spots behind them. Lakeside Hole 5 White tee was more like a gravel pit with green grass only near the edges of the tee box. Dust puffed up with each footstep. The greens were very inconsistent when it came to ball speed... sometimes on the same green. Not sure if it was caused by inconsistent mowing or not rolling them in a while. Finally, the home construction and heavy equipment near the two nines we played was annoying. The music and yelling of the workers made it hard to concentrate. I was sorry to see this once great course fall so far with the really poor course conditions. read more

I was married in the fall of 2013. I made my decision to have our wedding at Shaker Run in the late summer of 2012. We wanted to get married over looking the lake then have the reception inside the main ballroom. We also settled on their most expensive option which included an open bar. I was promised certain these things such as: 1-discounted meal for those unable to drink. 2-either outside or indoor ceremony depending on the weather. Well a new lady took the position of event coordinator, her name is Sherri Cornell. She seems friendly at first but don't let that fool you. For starters she was impossible to get ahold of. I was freaking out with dozen of emails and phone calls. She informed me the day before my wedding, less than 24 hours, that I would have to decorate my own wedding. Meaning I have to put the centerpieces up, table decorations such as the tea lights and table numbers, my gift table, the place cards, guest book along with any other little decoration I had BECAUSE she simple didn't have the staff. I was paying over 10k and I had to set up my own reception!!!??!!? We had the rehearsal at shaker run a few hours later and I talked to yet another manager who ensured us that they will set up everything and not to worry. The day of the wedding come I arrive at 12:00pm for the 4:30pm wedding and the only thing set up are plates and silver wear. I was in shear panic mode! I immediately got the manager on staff which wasn't Sherri Cornell even though she promised to be there at 12:00 and didn't arrive till after 1:00, and he started to set up my wedding. Then once he did all he had time for my brides maids, mother in-law, cousin, and myself set the rest of my reception up. I argued with her but she called me rude and blamed me for having a terrible attitude. I proceeded to breakdown and started crying because of the whole situation. I wouldn't recommend this unprofessional establishment for your important day if my life depended on it. The food is nothing special and over priced and they denied my father a second dinner roll! The open bar ran out of items very fast. They also lie about pricing so please don't rent anything through them. I was told flat rates for chair covers and rentals and they charged me with set up fees and delivery fees on everything even table clothes which they are suppose to supply on their own. They are not honest people they just try to cheat you on everything. If you are dealing with Sherri Cornell just don't waste your time or money, please. read more

Having read many negative comments about Shaker Run I had to finally give it a try myself. I was very happy. Lakeside-Woodlands are in great shape. I finished in 3 1/2 hours. Matt and Joe were very helpful explaining the conditions on Meadows are in the process of being addressed. All of the bunkers are being reconstructed on Meadows and all bunkers will have sand replaced as well. I wish I had spoken to Matt about the course before I played. Although I played well I ran into the Woodlands Course holes 3, 5 and 9 which were too much for my game as I was playing from the Black Tees. My bad. I can't wait to return next week and give it a go from the White Tees. Try it yourself. I'm happy i did. read more

Played the Meadows (White) and Woodlands (Red) course. I love Shaker Run and prefer the old course, Lakeside and Woodlands. The Meadows has gone without some attention for awhile as the traps are in desperate need of repair and new sand. I know the course has been working on the traditional sides of Woodlands and Lakeside (Still not complete). The sad thing is, the Meadows is a nice (9) but it needs to have restrooms added at some point on the course and the traps as previously stated are in DESPERATE need of repair and even the cart path has seen better days. The greens are in great shape (rolled and cut) thanks to all the rain we had, the rough was in US Open condition, but the course in general is fair if you keep it in play! I doubt if I will ever play the Meadows side again until they fix what needs to be fixed. The staff was friendly and we were grateful to see the cart girl a few times. read more

This course is terrible. The course pro, Ryan Nightingale, is extremely rude and unprofessional. We booked lakeside/woodlands and he booted us off the 10th fairway, woodland #1, because of an outing and told we had to play lakeside again or meadows. We informed him we booked this side and told us we should of played this side first. We played lakeside first because my confirmation lists it first. There is NO starter at any of the 3 9s and the front desk said nothing about which side to play first. When I asked Ryan how I was supposed to know, he boldly claimed he has been hearing the front desk employees tell everyone all day long. My foursome checked in at 3 separate times 5-10 minutes apart and none of us were informed. Ryan did not apologize nor admitted guilt. He basically called me a liar by saying he knows I was told which side to play first. Course is in terrible condition. They let the bunkers go on the meadows course by allowing weeds and grass to grow. Construction around the course is annoying and there's a temporary tee box because of it. I will never play here again. There's nothing worse than a course thats struggling to survive to have terrible management treating its customers poorly. read more

Visiting from Michigan and I called a private club in the area to see if they would take a reciprocal from my club. I needed to tee off before 9 and the club said they only let non-members off after 10 am. When I asked where a good spot to play would be, they mentioned Shaker Run. I loved it. My son and I played the tips and it did not disappoint. I hit most of the clubs in my bag and found the layout challenging, but fair. I don't know what this course played like in the past to get such bad reviews, but I'd play this course again and again. read more

The course is in really bad shape tee boxes on marsh course are all burned out. Ryan Nightingale has no control over what's going on we were told to play the first two 9 hole courses but then informed mid round that a shotgun outing was being played and we could only play the marsh which is in real bad condition and was all backed up with other groups who had the same problem. No starters...no control they need a decent staff or manager to step in and take over for Ryan and his staff. read more

I thought it was challenging and had several intriguing holes that added to the fun factor. Service at the clubhouse, the starter, and the refreshment cart was outstanding at every opportunity. BEAUTIFUL course. Paying members cannot even access the course whether it's the weekend or weekday because of all the outings this place tries to squeeze in. Management doesn't respond to calls or emails. So sad because this used to be in the top ten years ago. We've been members at other courses and never have had such a negative experience as we have here. My advice is to pay a little more and go to a course that is taken care of and the management actually cares about their members. read more

The design is fantastic, perhaps my favorite Arthur Hills design. The fairways and greens are in fantastic condition. The course is extremely challenging and I thought putting was difficult due to undulation of the greens. The rough and tee areas were in just ok condition. The course has a fantastic clubhouse rivaling country clubs but unfortunately the clubhouse is pretty much deserted. The driving range was pathetic. So what we have here is a top golf course that is clearly having financial difficulties. That said, I would definitely return. read more
