One of the first stops we made. Fun ATX sign to take photos. Not much goin on that night. Had a couple beers & headed out. I don't remember what type of music they were playing.

The 5-Star review is for their efforts in hosting a SXSW event that I recently attended. When I learned that the event was being held on Dirty 6th I almost canceled my invite. I only go to this part of town to have a cocktail at the Driskill or once in a blue moon to have one of the best burgers in town. The rest of the area has really turned into a $hit hole IMHO. The event was held upstairs and they really had their act together. Even though the event was packed it only took a minute or two to get a drink at one of their two bars. There were plenty of food stations and servers were constantly coming by with trays of Apps. There was a photo booth, a selfie station, and games. We did hang out on the patio and checked out the south by crowds on 6th. The band was really rocking and played music from the 70s on up. Great job by the Shakespeare staff and our hosts Optiv and Thales.

Great small pub in the heart of downtown Austin. We stopped in for a round of drinks on a weeknight. It was relatively slow night , but so was ever other place in the area. Drinks and service were excellent, and we found the prices to be very fair. Definitely a great little watering hole worth checking out, especially if you enjoy live music.

One of the larger bars on dirty 6 - this was one of the spots I would frequent when I was younger and just discovering Austin. Can't beat a $5.95 pitcher of cocktail as your personal cocktail when you're young and palate doesn't know any better lol My first encounter with these, I recall being very confused. My friend that was showing me around brought back 6 pitchers & 6 straws. Me: where are the cups? Friend: the entire pitcher is yours - first round is on me. Welcome to SXSW (insert evil laugh)! Me: This should be fun... welp, when in Rome! We ended blacking out pretty early and ordering pizza to the house and living vicariously through our photos we forgot we had taken over a game of monopoly and followed it up with Sunday morning brunch on Rainey at Banger's! If you're not from around here, definitely worth checking out! Experience your first personal pitcher!

I was in ATX to see 'Nothing But Thieves' (awesome band by the way - check them out) and decided to hit dirty 6th after the concert. Goal: park and go to establishments with no long lines. Shakespeare's was actually the last bar that me and my friend went to for the night and I gotta say that this was a good place to end the night. The bartender who served us was super cool and friendly. I don't really remember half the conversation because I was pretty plastered at this point, but I do remember her not being a douchey, pretentious bartender. I also believed that she handed me a can of Shiner because somebody had paid for it and then walked out and left. Sweet! Next time I'm hitting the 6th, I'm coming back.

If you go to this bar (and you should) the live music was great but BRANDON the bartender was amazing!! Make sure you check this place out.

I don't have the slightest clue why this is called Shakespeare Bar and I don't really care. Pete had bought a cigar and we didn't have to look far to find a rooftop bar to smoke it at. The bartender said we were welcomed to smoke on the roof or the backyard. I was like "whaaaa rooooof??? We're staying." Two Lone Stars ran me a measly $6.50. The roof was open during the day and super chill. Like most bars on "dirty 6" this place lived down to the name. I wish it were a cleaner. But the bartender was mad cool to us and polite. He didn't make fun of my accent (not asking a lot) and he was super smiley and helpful. This was the second best bar we went to in Austin. I highly recommend especially for smokers. Pro tip: Happy hour - even on Saturday noon until 8:30pm!

I'll start by complimenting the staff! Everyone we encountered - bar tender, server both - had a great sense of humor and were a pleasure to engage with. They treated us to a round of shots after we had a few rounds. Generally the vibe of the crowd is very friendly and we made some new friends to hang with part of the evening. Regardless of the food or ambiance the server is the face of the establishment. Bad service can easily lead to a bad review. In this case the waitress, when she finally showed up, was not friendly. She was indifferent, like we were bothering her, and had a borderline RUDE attitude. The clincher was her assumption on who was paying the bill. We waited a good ten minutes for her to initially show up. When she got to the table the first thing she asked for was a credit card to cover the drinks we ordered; which I thought was strange since our family was sitting at a table and ordering dinner. After the food was delivered she never returned to check on us. Other servers had to get us refills and were happy to do so. When she finally returned at the end of the meal with the bill , all smiles of course, she had already run the credit card without ever giving us the bill to review??? The card she asked for, for the drinks, was NOT meant to pay the bill. We were going to split the bill but since she already ran the card the cardholder didn't feel comfortable asking her to rerun the card. This was VERY awkward!! None of us have EVER experienced anything like this ever!! I wish I had gotten her name. I'm giving a 2 star review because everyone though the food was good.

Finally made our first visit so we could try "the best fish & chips" in the Austin area. I was surprised how big it was, they have a patio, a bar area and lots of tables I was shocked as from the outside it looks tiny. Service was fantastic which was shocking with them closing soon. The service was enough to want me to go back hopefully for us in this area they end up somewhere close by as I know how hard it is to find good workers. Pretzels were good! Onion rings were our favorite! Their version of the Philly was just okay, was very plain with not much flavor hubby didn't even finish half. But the star of the show was the fish and chips. My son was over the moon! Couldn't even finish half of it and he wanted to haha. The mushy peas were yummy and added an authenticity to the dish. I didn't really use the curry sauce that also came with the dish. To me it doesn't go with fish or chips. "Nosh & Bevvy Won't Forgive Me for All the Ways They Wronged Me"…read more That title is meant to be ironic. After more than fifteen years as a customer, I made one mistake: a four-dollar tab discrepancy on a day when I had just been turned away from a dental appointment because my blood pressure was too high for treatment. I was upset, distracted, and wanted to be around people I believed were my friends. That was the last day I ever stayed there as a customer. Let's go down the list. I have been accused of skipping out on my tab. The truth is that after fifteen years of faithful patronage, there was one incident involving approximately four dollars. I had added items to my order, paid cash, and made a mistake. One mistake in fifteen years. After that happened, I became concerned that I would continue to be treated as though I couldn't be trusted. In my experience, comments about unpaid tabs continued to surface. Rather than create another misunderstanding, I made a point of being generous. On the very next occasion I tipped Charlie more than fifty percent. Instead of feeling appreciated, I arrived the next time feeling insulted when the entire amount was simply pocketed without so much as an acknowledgment. Maybe others see that differently. That's how it felt to me. The situation became even more disturbing when interactions began taking place outside the bar itself. While standing in front of my own home, I experienced conduct that I considered harassment. As a result, I filed a police report and have the corresponding case number in my email records. What disturbed me even more were stories that reached me through people connected to my former partner. According to what we were told, false rumors were being circulated claiming that my ex-girlfriend had committed suicide. Whether people thought this was gossip, entertainment, or somehow harmless, it was not. The psychological harm caused by spreading something like that is difficult to overstate. Shame on everyone involved. What you don't know is Satara an I  spoke with witnesses that completely implicated Gilbert in the rumor. What strikes me now is that I nearly forgave all of this. I removed earlier reviews because I genuinely wanted to move on. I thought it was over. I thought everyone could move on with their lives. Apparently not. If people insist on dragging the issue back into the light, then here it is. The reality is that I don't even particularly miss the place. What I do object to is being disrespected. When a business chooses to disrespect a customer who supported it for fifteen years, there are consequences. One of those consequences is that customer telling his side of the story publicly. A Message to the Staff: If I believe I am being harassed in public--whether at Night Owl or anywhere else--I will pursue every legal remedy available to me. And Sam, for what it's worth, I am sorry that your employees have represented your business in a way that ultimately cost you a longtime customer and the loss of business from everyone else that read & took this review to heart as a warning & again, Sam & Charlie, for what it's worth I wanted to make all of this go away.  Fifteen years. One four-dollar mistake. And somehow I'm still the one expected to apologize when I feel like my partner and I were the ones most wronged. Because I'm not a completely vindictive man. If I get an apology from every employee that works building that knows me, In writing, I will remove this review. -- Mad Dashiell
