I absolutely love Murray's and keep coming back, whether I'm stopping in alone for a martini, having a date night with my husband, or meeting up with a group of friends. There's usually something on the menu for everyone, which makes it such an easy choice for almost any occasion. Their happy hour is one of my favourites in Austin. The mini martinis are served on a martini tree, which makes the experience especially fun, and they also make an excellent dirty martini--perfectly ice cold and well balanced. The beef tartare is another standout and easily one of the best in town. It's always topped with an impressively large egg yolk, which I love. As soon as you walk into Murray's you feel like you've been transported to a proper English pub. They have half off martinis during happy hour. I realized I don't like martinis but I'm assuming there's as well-made. It also came with some free oysters because it was oyster day. We got the fish and chips and I was pretty disappointed by the fish. Even though the batter was tasty, the fish inside was pretty meager. The green beans are surprisingly tasty. We watched a couple World Cup games there and it was a nice environment for that. They also have ample patio space. Service is pretty fast too. Overall a fun place to get a beer and hang. read more

Seven of us visited this week and were very impressed. We had heard great things, but expected only basic "pub food" in a tavern. We were blown away by the quality of food and the service. Juliet, our waitress was incredibly knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the menu. My salmon was delicious, the Chicken Francese amazing and the Chicken Pot Pie unique and great, to name a few. Since we were there during happy hour, bottles of wine were half off-a great deal--and portions were very large--another welcome surprise. Knowing we were celebrating a birthday, a manager brought out a tower of seven mini glasses of champagne- a great touch. The Sticky Pudding on the dessert menu also a hit. Stopped in for their Wednesday Steak frites night special that comes with a vodka/gin drink. We chose the higher end prime rib steak and it was not great - very chewy, impossible to cut with their steak knife, and at least 30% was not edible (fat, gristle). For someone who wants a well textured steak, do not upgrade to this option. We also got a Tavern burger, mushrooms, and cream puffs dessert. Everything else was quite tasty. The martini did taste quite strong - which was nice with an included cocktail. The service was great and our server was fabulous - personable, funny, and attentive. We made a reservation for 7:30PM and were seated at a common long table outside on the patio. The ambiance lives up to the name, it's a tavern with Austin vibes. Dim lighting dark velvet drapes and heavy on the wood furniture, leather seats and a well stocked bar. Pair this with a lively bar tender and welcoming staff and you start to understand why this unique Tavern has such an online following and gets such good reviews. There js also a really nice outdoor bar I've seen tons of people raving about on social media that seems to be a hidden gem. The food is delicious and creative. Fish N Chips seems to be a fan favorite including my own go to but the Ruben and even more so the Prime rib is where it's at. I also had a Guinness and I don't know where they get it from or if it's just fresher than other places but it's the smoothest one I've ever had. Murray's Tavern has some really cool specials on different days like Steak and Frits with margaritas or lunch combos where you can choose a listed entree on the back lower half of the menu that comes with your choice of some out of this world French onion soup or salad and a N/A drink for a extremely reasonable price. The staff is so lively and super cool they are all such friendly individuals with giving hearts and big personalities. They literally go the extra mile to ensure you have a good time and enjoy your food and drink as much as possible. Love this place, go pretty often. Had an amazing steak night a few months ago: Martini with steak and we opted for the Oscar. Used to be this beautiful lump crab (I'd say what you were using in your crab cakes) offering that was sublime. Bragged about to so many friends that I now have to redact. Went this last Wednesday and it was truly crab out of a can that almost tasted like tuna. The offering before did seem worth more than what we got but it was excellent. Keep offering it and even make it $5 more if it makes more sense than what you're doing now. This was the perfect place to go for St Patrick's day. It was packed but a lively vibe and the bartenders were doing their best to get people served. It was standing room only but there are booths and tables that I'm sure on a different night would be available to sit. There are a number of bars on the same street, so parking can be a challenge and it'll probably be on the street. All the typical Irish drinks are made as well as any other popular type of drink. Met a friend here last month partly because it was located near a place we planned to go dancing at afterwards. Great location. I was lucky to get a spot in their small parking lot. The food was great and I enjoyed the orgeat cocktail. There were several flies and we had to wait for one of the mini table fans that were apparently getting charged. My group of 10 friends made a reservation on a Saturday night and they were able to accommodate us. There is free street parking around the neighborhood. They have nice big tables in the back of the restaurant. The interior was decorated with rich colors and dim lighting, making it a perfect spot for an intimate date night. I saw many Instagram reels so I was so excited to try and see it for myself. My boyfriend and I shared a baked spinach artichoke dip with the table as well as a Tavern Style burger with cheddar cheese between the 2 of us. The baked spinach artichoke dip consisted of parmesan, mozzarella, and tortilla chips; it was warm and scrumptious. Unfortunately, it seems that something went wrong because our burger did not come with any cheese when it was served to us. We did not bother to ask for the cheese since they burger was still delicious without the cheese. Since it was our friend's birthday, our table decided to share cheesecake and a sweet treat, it was. I'll start by saying the service was good. They were busy, and for us being walk-ins, I felt they kept up well and took care of us. No complaints on the service side. The food, however, was consistently under-salted. I can deal with an under-salted dish from time to time -- it happens -- but every single dish came out flat and lacking seasoning. The most disappointing dish was the lemon crab linguine, one of their specials. For $28, it was described as linguine tossed with crab, lemon, and butter, served with a grilled lemon. I appreciated the portion size and the amount of crab, but beyond that, the dish missed the mark. It was very under-salted, and the lemon and butter were basically nonexistent. There was no noticeable sauce or emulsion, and it was not served with the grilled lemon, which would have helped bring some brightness to the dish. Instead, it came across as crab tossed with slightly overcooked linguine, with no real salt, lemon, butter, or sauce to bring it together. If I wasn't moving out of Austin I wouldn't even consider writing a review out of fear that getting a reservation would become impossible. Being originally from the Northeast, it's pretty hard for me to be impressed by Prime Rib or Pastrami sandwiches anywhere else. Murray's Tavern absolutely changed that for me. The Prime Rib is the best I've had outside of where I grew up, and honestly might even be at the same level. The pastrami sandwich is the best I've had in Texas, but not as good as where I grew up (to be fair impossible to beat the local deli). Not sure where they're sourcing their oysters but also worth the hype. Lastly, don't sleep on the french fries, they're the best I've ever had and probably ever will have. Must be hand cut and cooked in butter or some duck fat, chef's kiss. The mixed drinks are also incredible, rivaling some of the Michelin star spots with some of their concoctions and at a lower price point. The place is also really cool, with the bar extending across the entire main dining area. Also, nice to have a separate setting area in the back that's a bit more quiet for dates. read more

The salmon was boring and overcooked. All it had on it for flavor was a grilled lemon to squeeze. The spinach dip was not good at all. It tasted like cream and that's it. So I've always loved this place and those of you wondering yes it actually is kid friendly so if you have children, you could take them there. We went during happy hours since they had it all day on Mondays. I went with the espresso martini and they're called mini cocktails. Yes, it is mini two words almost like a shot or so, but let me tell you the drink was so strong. You're fine with the mini size. The drink was delicious. They did a great job on it. I love that. It did not have milk or was overly milky like others. I did get the beef tartare but totally forgot to take a photo. They do a great job here with it so definitely get it and they did have it for happy hour as well. The place itself was really nice: the interior is very well decorated, outside is very spacious, and overall the place is not crammed and has plenty of room. The staff was great! Our server was very sweet and attentive. It wasn't busy when we arrived so we just picked a seat and got some drinks with beef tartare. One thing that often denotes a great restaurant is that is simply is what it intends to be. Read that statement again. Far too often businesses try to be all things to all people and just fail at everything. Murray's Tavern is exactly what it is trying to be, and it does a superb job. In addition to extremely friendly staff, who were attentive without being imposing, the food is excellent. I'll admit, I love chicken pot pie; it is a go-to comfort food from my childhood. Murray's may be the best I have had, and that is saying something. This creamy, elegant dish in a classic French "pot" with a perfect puff pastry top featured a classic velouté sauce that packed more flavor than I would have thought possible. It came steaming hot (be careful), and when I was done, I wanted to order another. I am told the rest of the menu is just as good. I would say I am looking forward to trying more dishes, but I honestly can't see myself visiting Murray's Tavern and not ordering the chicken pot pie.
