    Dahi puri chaat

Made a quick pit stop at shalimar for some chaat. I ordered the dahi puri. It was pretty vibrant and had a good presentation. Pretty solid in taste. I noticed that they had an afternoon buffet also. They have a pretty big section for mithai/ sweets. Service was on point and there is plenty of parking available, right across the street.

Watch out for the prices. Dinner for 3 ppl. My invoice came out to be $159.73 after adding $23.07 self added tips which is 18%. The meat part is affordable but watch out when you order Naans or anything else. Its astronomically expensive. We ordered 3 Naan for 3 people and 1 none to go. But they charged us 9 Naans which costs $33. Naan is not that great either. Costco sells better Naans. Faluda was okay but not at $7.21 per glass. They should not charge more than $5 for Faluda. Tea is more expensive than 5 star hotels. Also their pricing structures are weird. Attached the receipt and take a look at it for yourself.

Shalimar is amazing! They have excellent food. The chicken Bihari kebab is wonderful. The sweets are really good. There are free parking lots. Very good food and good service. Prices are reasonable.

Shalimar Restaurant in Iselin is a hidden gem who do not go there for how it looks from outside. . The food here is not just great; it consistently satisfies the taste buds and is reasonably priced. The Biryani, kababs and Haleem are truly out of this world. Despite being a "hole in the wall" kind of place, the incredible flavors make it a must-visit. Service is quick, and they remain open well into the night.

My family and I visited Shalimar over the weekend after being in the area for the day. We saw a sign that said grand opening and decided to check it out. I think they renovated recently because some of the pictures on yelp for this location look older. When walking past the door you may think it's only a spot for take out and desserts, but if you step further in you see a huge dining area to be seated. The outer area has large display cases with tons of sweets and entree options. There's also a few tables and benches in this area as well. The main dining room is connected to this area. It is very modern. Everything was very clean and the waitresses were very nice. The vibe was lively because of all the groups of families and friends. For drinks, the mocktails on the menu weren't available yet. However, the offered 2 free mint mojitos per table (any after that were to be paid for). So we ordered those and some of us went for the mango lassi. The mango lassi was very smooth and not too sweet. The mint mojito was very refreshing and wasn't overpowered by the mint. Both were delicious. In all we ordered the sweet and sour chicken, shrimp fried rice, fries, mutton charsi karahi, palak paneer, butter chicken, naan (tandoori and garlic), chicken biryani, chicken cheese handi, and aloo paratha. Everything was delicious! The sweet and sour chicken was tender. The shrimp fried rice had a good amount of shrimp and wasn't overly salty. The fries were crispy. The mutton charsi karahi was fall off the bone. The palak paneer was well balanced. The butter chicken was creamy and tender. The naan and aloo paratha were fresh. The chicken biryani was perfectly spiced. The chicken cheese handi was tender as well. You really can't go wrong ordering any of these. I can't choose what my favorite was. I will say some of the item are spicier than others and to just be aware. However, it was nothing too bad. The mango lassi helped to keep the spice level at bay. For desert we got the rasmalai ice cream, tiramisu, and regular rasmalai. The ice cream sounded interesting and it really did taste like rasmalai. I was afraid the flavor would be too weak but it wasn't. The regular rasmalai was good too. The tiramisu was a little icy but it was still good! I would definitely return to try more off the menu. Everything was delicious. We ordered a lot but I'm happy we were able to sample different items.

Excellent service and a huge upgrade from before! Their seating area is large, renovated, and clean, and the food is better than ever. A must visit for authentic Pakistani food.

Did not taste like butter chicken at all . $16 for this small plate and did not come with anything at all . No naan or rice

So disappointed. I was really looking forward to this place since it had a lot of reviews . The portions were SO small and expensive and the lacked in flavor. I ordered butter chicken and it did not taste like butter chicken at all . Also ordered Gobi, chaat and garlic nan and the again lacked in flavor

I ordered it mild, and the spice level was just right. It also came with a small side of raita, which was a nice touch. Unfortunately, the Malai Boti was very disappointing. It literally tasted like plain boiled chicken. There was no creamy malai flavor or richness at all, and it lacked the seasoning and texture I was expecting. It was a huge contrast to the Chicken Karahi. I would definitely order the karahi again, but I would skip the Malai Boti.

Even though it had just…read morerecently opened, it was already bustling, which made me so happy to see a new business thriving--and for good reason! I love supporting new restaurants, especially when they bring something special to the table. We were seated immediately, but I will say the service could use some improvement. It wasn't the most welcoming, and we had to wait a bit before someone took our order. That aside, we were excited to dig in. We ordered, Gol Goppay - Unfortunately, this was not a hit for me. It was way too salty and lacked the depth of flavor it should have. Kaptaan Karahi is the star of the show! The shorba, the masalas, the flavors--each bite had us fighting for more. Their chef knows exactly what they're doing, and this dish alone will bring me back. Lastly the Peshwari Naan - Another must-try! The size alone is mind-blowing (just check out my pics!), and it's made fresh in the tandoor. Slathered in butter, it's phenomenal. I'm already planning my next visit when I'm back in New Jersey. If you're looking for bold, authentic flavors and freshly made naan that's larger than life, this place is worth checking out!

Since I'm vegetarian, I mainly tried the veg options. For appetizers, they had beetroot tikki and samosa chaat. The samosa chaat was honestly my favorite thing from the entire buffet. I really enjoyed it and went back for more. The beetroot tikki was okay. They also had tomato soup, but I didn't try it. The salad section had cucumber, tomato and onion slices, chickpea salad, small papad and dahi vada. I tried the dahi vada, but it was a little too sweet for my taste. For the main course, I really liked the lasooni corn palak and Punjabi kadhi pakora. The paneer tikka masala was okay, but didn't stand out as much for me. They also had gobi aloo adraki, which I didn't try. For rice, there was plain rice and veg pulao. I liked that they bring a basket of different breads directly to the table. It was a nice touch and we could enjoy the breads fresh with our meal. We also ordered Hakka noodles separately for my daughter, but they weren't really to her taste. For dessert, they had moong dal halwa and rasmalai. I tried the moong dal halwa, but found it a little too dry for my liking. I personally love moong dal halwa when it has that rich ghee flavor and texture, and I felt that richness was missing here. I didn't try the rasmalai. They also had tea, but I didn't get a chance to try it. Overall, it was a mixed experience for me. There were definitely a few dishes I enjoyed, especially the samosa chaat, lasooni corn palak and kadhi pakora. Kids eating free is a nice benefit, but I did find the buffet a little pricey for the selection offered. For the price, I was hoping for a bit more variety and a few more dishes that really stood out. It was an okay lunch experience overall, with some good dishes but also some room for improvement.

The food here tends to be filling at a decent price while the service and atmosphere are so-so. I ordered my usual 2-piece seekh kababs and a butter naan. They brought out shaami kababs instead while I am almost positive I had stated seekh kababs, which is what I normally get there. Another 10-15 minutes passed; the correct order was finally brought out and the incorrect order taken away. The cook himself brought it out, staring at me creepily. Anyway, I started to eat and after a while, thought I had bit into a bone or something hard. When I spit it out, it was a flat white plastic bread clip/tab often used to close packets of burger buns, and it wasn't exactly small. I could easily have choked on it or worse, died. At the very least, it could have caused internal bleeding. I immediately asked for the manager and gave him a piece of my mind in a loud, trembling voice, obviously didn't pay and stormed out, letting them know that I have taken pics and can sue them if I want to. I have sworn not to return and warn others to be very careful with the food there if they decide to go.
