It wasn't an easy extraction based on the location and condition of the tooth, but it was one of the easiest procedures I ever had. Once the pain medicine wore off it was painful overnight, and the next morning I woke up with no pain at all. Dr. Ali and his staff are courteous and professional. Unfortunately, my experience with the front desk personnel left much to be desired. LaShandra gave me the feeling that she didn't want to be bothered with me. The tone in which she spoke to me on the phone before I ever made it into the office was curt, but then when I finally came in the office, I felt that her tone was even more demeaning. The whole time she spoke with me, she'd never make any eye contact. I'm hard of hearing and wear hearing aids and trying to hear when people have a mask on is very difficult and she seemed to not want to repeat anything and that she simply didn't have time. (Mind you, there's no one else in the waiting area, nor is the phone ringing during this time which I would've understood if she couldn't answer my questions at the moment due to other office obligations). Finally I asked her to give me a second to turn on my mic (I have a mic that connects directly to my hearing aids via Bluetooth to help me hear better. The last question (about insurance) I started to try and ask her before going into the room with the doctor, I was stopped abruptly by her saying that it was time to see the doctor so I guess that was her way of not answering the question. Growing up, my family didn't have a healthy dental routine of seeing dentists. As an adult, I'm dealing with the consequences of that and trying to create healthier dental habits moving forward. I was beyond excited to come to Capitol Family Dental since it's in my neighborhood and had so many phenomenal reviews. I had even convinced my husband to give them a shot potentially leaving his normal dentist and hygienist that he's been going to for 10+ years since Capitol Family Dentistry is in the neighborhood. But unfortunately, my experience speaking with LaShandra multiple times over the phone before I came in for my first appointment coupled with my in-person experience turned me off a bit. Moreover, when I'd ask questions, she'd make assumptions that she knew the reason behind my question and answered based on what she thought I needed to know instead of just answering my question which made the communication even more tense (not to mention, leaving me without the information I was trying to get). I mean, I'm in the dentist's office ON MY BIRTHDAY with a broken tooth. Definitely not how I want to start off the morning of my birthday but to be made to feel like you're not worth the time is just not a good experience. Not sure how to proceed but I may still be looking for a new dentist. I hate to give such a highly regarded dental practice 2 stars, but when the experience with front desk is such that it leaves you feeling like you don't want to come back and you're weighing to yourself whether or not to continue to subject yourself to this type of treatment, I think it warrants it. She knew she was wrong because she called back and said, "I'm sorry they weren't calling about you, it was another patient and I apologize for being so rude". The fact you have to call back and acknowledge you can't keep you attitude in check lets me know this dentist does not care about who he hires and how they treat his customers. She was also very nasty when corresponding with them about my referral to a specialist. She told me it was not their fault that they may not be in network when they refer out to specialists. This is after when I called and asked how they refer to specialists, and she said they refer to specialists based on my insurance. She realized there was a problem and tried to walk back on what she initially said. You ARE NOT SAFE with them. Anyone that can hire staff that will be so reckless with your care is not a good establishment. This woman hung up in my face and proceeded to yell at me on the phone when she started changing her story after saying they referred me based on my insurance. They take no responsibility. No exceptions. Because of that, they quoted me $559 out-of-pocket for a visit that would cost nothing at an in-network office. They even admitted this themselves, telling me it "would make sense" for me to go elsewhere -- which says a lot. If you have insurance and are counting on their site's "PPO welcome" claim, call first and get it in writing. I went elsewhere, and I'd suggest you do too unless you're ready to pay full price with no guarantee of reimbursement.

Instead of speaking encouraging words and giving reassurance, he only bragged about his awards and told me the treatment that I needed was a "small fry" to him and either I get it done or I don't. The nice dental assistant told me that they offered mild sedation in their LaPlata office if I would opt to go there! Once I arrived at the LaPlata office, I sat in my car until it was my turn to go in. (COVID policy) As I got inside the exam room, the dental hygienist and another dental assistant came in. No introduction or anything. She leaned my chair back and told me to open my mouth so I can get a cleaning. As she started my teeth, she had a series of coughs, non stop. It was only until I moved my head that she got up and continued to cough outside the exam room. When she came back in, she proceeeded to finish with the same exact cough. I then tilted my head again, and she removed herself. ( as a hygienist, who thinks it's okay to cough repeatedly while someone mouth is open and you guys are face to face ) Once finished, a new dentist came inside and examined my mouth to create my dental plan. As she was examining my mouth, she kept asking a series of questions and instead of allowing me to answer, she just answered for me and kept on moving. When I received my dental plan, I asked about sedation. ( the only reason why I came to LaPlata ) I was then told that I would have to get EVERYTHING done on my dental treatment (which was only fill-ins and wisdom teeth removal). I told them I was unable to afford the $7,000 bill they gave me. Could I only get my wisdom teeth removed as that was the reason I came to see a dentist. I was once again told that it was either I get all the treatment plan done or nothing. When asked why, it was stated that it's his practice he does whatever he wants. I asked what about the patients who have anxiety, and can't even sit still once the noise of the drill comes on, I was told to find another dentist. I WILL NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRACTICE TO ANYONE WHO SUFFERS FROM DENTAL ANXIETY OR DOESN'T HAVE A TON OF MONEY SITTING AROUND TO SPEND IMMEDIATELY
