This is our family's (and extended family's) "go to" Chinese spot! We've been coming here ever since they opened, and the food is always delicious, hot, and plentiful. They have the best almond chicken around, and I haven't eaten anything here yet that was "just okay." My favorite is their Kung Pao Chicken, extra spicy! The staff are always so friendly, too; they've come to know our family by name, even, and always take good care of us. Every single Christmas Eve, you'll find our family at the big round table on the far end of the restaurant, eating and celebrating. It's our prime spot! Always enjoy the food here. The wait staff always remembers that I am from another town. Ask and they will gladly recommend a dish for you. They will explain the difference between lo mein, chow mein and any noodle dish. Don't hesitate to just ask. The barbecue pork is AMAZING! It's done in house and isn't that premade stuff from food service. The dishes that are fried are always crisp and those cooked in a wok are always seasoned to perfection. I like spicy and some of the hotter dishes they can amp up for you and make your sweat! I never feel like they a skimping ingredients... house fried rice with so much in it! One time I will order the chow mein and the next time the house lo mein. You can get the combos but don't bother! I'm born and raised in San Francisco, a culinary mecca, and have been extremely disappointed in the restaurants in TriCities. Chinese food, in my humble opinion, is not a highlight of the area. Fortunately, Shang Hai is satisfying the craving! I'm a huge fan of the Wonton soup! I asked the chef to cook me an item not on the menu and it was delicious! The food is good, the bathrooms need to be burned down and rebuilt as they are disgusting. But I don't go here to use the bathrooms so I avoid them. I make a mistake on the menu and come back and they fix it for free. No charge and it was my mistake misunderstanding the menu. You can't beat that in the service industry. I usually love eatting here , food is good , service is usually good . Today we had a bad experience. We asked for a high chair and it took a while to get to us which is understandable. They came to table with waters like usual and placed 5 waters on table close to baby who was on my lap . Reasonably the 9 month baby reached for the water and spilt it over herself . Waitress didn't say a word just looked upset and came to wipe table angrily . I apologized for the baby spilling the water on accident. we ordered and she told my brother " give me the menus " in an aggressive manner . We decided to let it go since we could understand how it could make a waitress upset since we are waitresses ourselves . She came to the table with a high chair and four plates and threw the plates down at the table with attitude and slammed high chair down . Food was good and hot but definitely the vibe was killed and didn't allow us to continue to enjoy our dinner . We were in the Tri-Cities for a geocaching event and I was craving Chinese food. I looked at a few different options and Shang Hai had some great dinner combo options, along with being open late enough to make in before they closed after a day of caching. I ended up ordering a (4) item dinner combo and the appetizer sampler. HOLY COW!!! I don't know if I got extra food because it was close to closing or if it was there normal portion size but it was a lot of food. It was great too! I was able to share with my buddy and I'm not a great sharer of foods :) They we're also dealing with sriracha shortage so she gave me their homemade hot sauce and it was tasty. I have eaten at this restaurant many times. I was charged for my meal and the clerk wanted to add another 3% to the check for using a credit card. I advised her not to charge me the fee as I didn't believe it is legal. She told me she has to pay 3% to the credit card company and pays 5000 a month for those fees. I stated that is the cost of doing business and you can write that expense off on your taxes. She still charged me the 3%. I called my credit card and they told me it is not legal for the restaurant to charge me the fee. I disputed the charges. I will not be eating here anymore until they stop charging the fee. read more

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place. Everytime I come to Kennewick, this is a must for my family. It's as divey as a Chinese restaurant can be. Not horribly dirty, but dirty enough to be a comfortable American Chinese restaurant complete with a little garbage out side and 70-80s decor. And vinyl booth seats. Food is fried, totally Americanized, and somehow I can't but think something shady is going on behind the scenes with how cheap they offer the food. This is my favorite Chinese restaurant. Not only is it cheap, but the portion is large. The service is great, they always look happy to see you and are always kind. I have never sat down to eat at the restaurant so I can't comment on that. However, I will say that their chicken noodles are soooo good, my favorite. We also get the sweet and sour chicken which comes with a side of white rice and a sweet and sour sauce, sooo great! I love this restaurant and always recommend it to everyone I know! This is a must for our family anytime we go to the Tri Cities, I have a family of 6 so having a family friendly place with great prices and big portions is a must and you get all 3 here! It is a nice atmosphere lots of seating, big windows that provide lots of great lighting and the staff is always very pleasant and helpful. Food is amazing probably the best that I have had in a while, Egg drop soup is yummy, their chow mein is amazing one of my favorites. Egg foo young is not my favorite but I do like to order it here every once in a while because I do really like it. a must have is the crab rangoon and cream cheese won tons my kids love them it is a great starter!! I could recognize the ham and veggies... The ham was actually fried before being combined with the rice... It was beautiful. The lemon chicken was fantastic. Absolutely amazing. I also dug into some of the sweet and sour chicken. Perfect sauce, amazing (and recognizable) chicken. The only reason I gave four stars is... since it's take out, I have no idea how the service was.
