I had so hoped Shanghai would improve but alas the quality has continued to go down over the past two years or so. Long gone are the fabulous buffet days of huge garlic shrimp and a bounty of fresh desserts. I miss the Shangai of 2004-2009ish. Don't get me wrong, there are still some decent items on the buffet but more than not, it's overwhelmingly deep fried with hit and miss to the quality (i.e. green onion cakes so overcooked my kidlets cannot chew through them). Some of the fruit had a mixed up flavour on my last visit, like a knife used to cut onions or something else than cut the fruit. I question the freshness (as in how many days has it been put out for buffet) of many of the cold buffet line items. There was still at least an hour left before closing and they had start vacuuming the store while we were seated! That was unbelievably annoying and disrupted our meal. The food was just okay and didn't have any Shanghai taste to it (as the restaurant name might have implied). It was very much all fried, salty, and not authentic Chinese food in the slightest. I guess you can't expect much when you walk into a near empty restaurant on a Friday night. Food was subpar. The atmosphere was cheap and stained even though it was newer. The service was decent except the manager(?) was super weird (to the point of being awkward creepy). read more

This afternoon we ordered a takeout dinner for four, and the disappointment began piling up rapidly once we arrived home. We selected almond chicken, sweet and sour pork, BBQ pork fried rice, and stir-fried mixed vegetables, and the meal also included "complimentary" chicken chow mein, egg rolls, and a mysterious sauce. After opening each of the dishes we noticed a long hair in the almond chicken box, which was a bad sign from the beginning. Upon further inspection of the almond chicken, we soon realized that much of the chicken was raw inside, yielding it inedible, as the photos below illustrate. Calling it almond chicken is a misnomer, because there were no almonds to be found in the batter at all. The almond chicken was the worst of the batch, however the rest of the food was not much better. The egg rolls were offensive, with a thick, hard batter which could hardly be cut with a knife, in addition to a vile curried filling. The sweet and sour pork was very dry and hard as well, the BBQ pork fried rice was tremendously bland and salty, the stir-fried mixed vegetables were mushy and smothered in a slimy, flavourless sauce, and the chicken chow mein was of similar quality. Overall this meal was a horrendous waste of $50, and we can only hope that we don't get food poisoning. The vast majority of the food had to be thrown away. Don't waste your money at this establishment, which could very well put your health in jeopardy. read more

Good for delivery, decent food. But the restaurant is HORRIBLE, awful chairs covered in purple bed sheets, dirty dated atmosphere, buffet is weak, service is slow, lots of potential needs remodel ASAP. Decent food though. read more

If we order from here and pick it up it is delicious. When we go in for the buffet we usually find that the food is dry and inedible for. Sitting in the lamps too long. The staff are ok. But they don't seem to like working there. We just order and pick up now. read more

Unappealing restaurant...needs renos and better cleaning. Their food is blah, either tasteless or over cooked and stale like it's over a week old. I have ordered from here out of lack of option a few times hoping each time maybe it was a bad batch and this time it'll be good BUT NOPE...I've had to call and ask the delivery person to come take back a bunch of food because it had absolutely no flavor...each time being a battle because the gentlemen (no so gentlemen) would argue if we opened it he wouldn't take it back...everyone knows Chinese food isn't cheap so don't risk it and bank your buck before you flush it on this place. read more

Had the buffet, the selection was good and the food was hot. The staff have always been courteous. The décor and food is what I expect from a Chinese restaurant in a small town/city so I do not expect high class food or décor. read more
