It has taken me over three years to find the strength to write this review…read more After my mother passed away, I was told where she was being held. Having previously experienced the compassion and humanity shown by funeral professionals in Indiana, I believed I would be allowed a brief, private moment to see my mother and say goodbye. Instead, when I contacted Brown Funeral Home, I was told that my sister had paid for the least expensive cremation option and that I could come to identify my mother's body for 20 minutes at a cost of $385. I was also told that the funeral home would need to contact the Power of Attorney for permission. I specifically asked that the Power of Attorney not be contacted because of the circumstances surrounding my mother's care and death. Despite that request, the Power of Attorney was contacted. I was subsequently told that I could view my mother's body, but that it would be classified as an "identification," limited to 20 minutes, and would cost $385. For me, this was not simply a business transaction. This was my mother. I was grieving and wanted the opportunity to see her, say goodbye, and have a moment of closure. Being told that this opportunity would cost $385 and require permission from another person was devastating. What has stayed with me for more than three years is not simply the cost. It was the lack of compassion I experienced during one of the most painful moments of my life. Families deserve dignity, compassion, and humanity when they are saying goodbye to someone they love. My experience with Brown Funeral Home did not feel that way, and it is an experience I will never forget.

My brother's arrangements were mis-handled from the very beginning. During the pre-need arrangement appointment we were promised things that did not materialize. We were told the body would be picked up promptly and be in the care of Baldwin Brothers the entire time. Neither were true in our case. The body was left in the hospital for well over a day and a third party company, not Baldwin Brothers was used to pick up the body at the hospital. We were told repeatedly he would be in the care of Baldwin from start to finish. Using a third-party company, Suncoast Transport is not in the hands of Baldwin Brothers. We were given repeated excuses why the body was not picked up or why the identification of the body would cost an additional $300. Even excuses as to why the phone at the office was not answered for over a day, why the obituary on the Baldwin website was not posted as promised or why the death certificate could not be issued. Even excuses as to why the cremation permit would be delayed thus a delay in the cremation and our getting his ashes to do his inurnment at the cemetery. We got to see the body three days after death. He was warm even though Florida law requires refrigeration after 24 hours. His limbs were limp and bottom of his hands and fingers were black. We have pictures. This after only three days. I believe if he were under refrigeration we would not have had to experience the look and smell of my brother's remains. Please don't do this to your loved one. Go to a professional that will treat you and your family with the respect that you each deserve. RUN, DON'T WALK AWAY FROM BALDWIN BROTHERS IN BRADENTON FLORIDA. We intend to make our case known to several industry oversight organizations in Florida. In regards to this matter we have hire legal counsel and expect to pursue this trough state regulatory and licensing as well as through professional affiliations.

My father died of unfortunately tragic circumstances in early August. I contacted Griffith Cline,…read morebecause they were the funeral home we worked with when my father's wife passed. The funeral director who met with us chastised me for not having my Dad's SSN, and all of his parents' info in hand when we met with him. 16 hours earlier I had just signed the forms that would turn off my father's life support, so I found this somewhat disturbing. The funeral director also advised that he'd secure a pastor (and charged me for the pastor's time up front). This was on a Monday - he was quick to get my credit card swiped. By Wednesday no pastor had apparently been contacted. Fortunately I have a great relative who found one in a pinch for us. We ultimately had to request a new funeral director given the attitude of the first one. (I could spend more time on this person's attitude, but won't here). It also turns out that he got my name wrong on the death certificates. And now I'm being charged for the revisions, which will take weeks to get done. I'll find the time tonight to place at least 3 positive reviews to offset this one, but for a service whose customers are the bereaved, they seem to have an interesting way of handling these customers.
