I'm so lucky to have found Rachel. Her understanding of how the body works is astounding. She…read morecombines her knowledge with a friendly, warm approach to teaching. Every class is thoughtfully prepared. Every private lesson I make new discoveries and improve my movement. As a ballet dancer and teacher, I've noticed that I have greater range of motion, and greater EASE of motion for at least 24 hours after Rachel's classes. This is true even when I take class with Rachel via Zoom! I also find that private lessons give me a greater understanding of what my body needs, and when I apply these learning to group classes I'm able to get MORE out of the group classes. This is true whether I'm taking Rachel's group class, or someone else's class--pilates, yoga, or ballet!

Great post-partum exercise sessions (with my 2-month-old baby)!…read more After two kids, I'm out-of-shape, overweight, and have abs of jello -- so I arranged 6 private sessions with Rachel, where I bring my baby. The first session, per my request, she helped build me a core-strengthening routine that I can do on my own when I have a few minutes (without any special equipment). I just finished my 2nd lesson -- using the "reformer" pilates machine -- to do more specific exercises, and it felt great. I really like Rachel's hands-on approach. She physically lays-on hands to guide me through an exercise; to show how I'm using more/different muscles than I should be; and to physically hold one part of my body still so I can work specifically on another part. This is terrific for me since I don't have great body awareness -- and in large yoga classes I never know if I'm doing things correctly. I've heard Rachel's also good with more advanced folks & dancers, but I can only speak to her abilities with novices like me. How did it work with the baby? Today, my 2mo old needed to nurse right on arrival. While I fed him, Rachel used her Alexander Technique training to work with my posture, and by placing her hands on my head, neck, shoulders and back (while I was nursing), she was able to improve my posture to a more lengthened, upright, and comfortable position -- without any conscious effort on my part. Next, while I changed his diaper, Rachel pointed out how the disorganized and flexible movements of an infant differ from adult's organized but more limited motion -- so I didn't even feel that this was wasted time. Then, my babe watched us for a while, but when he wanted attention, Rachel held and bounced him while I continued with my exercises. When she needed to demonstrate something, we would pass the babe back and forth -- worked great. How does this compare to a "mama and baby yoga" class? I like those too, but didn't feel like I was getting the needed attention to properly strengthen my core muscles & pelvic floor. I think of these private lessons as an investment.

I am so grateful for Endurance! I had walked by the studio for several years and, when looking in…read morethe window, was intimidated by the reformer machines, to be honest. It wasn't until I was diagnosed with breast cancer and needed a different kind of workout and a coach to help me through that I decided to try Endurance. I am soooo glad that I tried! First of all, Julie is amazing. She is highly educated in anatomy and physiology as it pertains to movement and she is an excellent communicator. Being new to Pilates, she really helped me do the movements correctly which is key in Pilates. It's easy to "cheat" but cheating doesn't get you results. Secondly, I no longer feel intimidated by the reformer. Haha. Julie made sure that I felt welcomed and comfortable from the start. Even when I was going through chemotherapy and radiation, bald, overweight, edematous, and exhausted, she made me feel welcomed. She made me feel cared-for. She tailored my workout by how I was feeling and addressed issues right on the spot, like if I noted pain in one area or another. There were so many changes going on in my body that I couldn't keep up with and Julie helped me recognize them and helped me come up with solutions. For example, she recognized certain areas of my body that needed more stretching which probably became tight from spending so much time on the couch after chemo. Now that I have finished chemo and radiation, we are working on building back up my core strength. So grateful she is my coach to encourage me through an ab work out! I have not taken a class with any of the other instructors but I understand they are highly qualified and amazing too. And from watching the end of a class, here and there, waiting for my session to begin, they are amazing! To sum it up: Don't hesitate to try! I am so glad that I did.

The culture is amazing; almost no one is talking or making a fuss nor are there a lot of the aforementioned 'content creator'. Agreeing with the consensus that the staff is kind and efficient. 5 stars on this locally owned gym was easy to write, but I almost don't want to post so I can keep this gym a secret. As a previous college athlete, I love the environment and I'm excited to get back into my old shape hahaha. The cleanest gym I've been to. With the 'no contract and no start up fee' standard, commuting to this gym is still a no brainer even if it does add a bit more travel time. The popular '$200 a month, class based' gyms in the city are extremely overly priced and I (respectfully) think they are suited for a particular type of person. I write this review as someone who has solely weight lifted for years, then cross trained, then prepped, etc. Lifting for 10 years now, I've been to a lot of different gyms and I agree with another comment about 'feeling at home' (which is especially important as a girl at a gym that's mostly men!) I look forward to updating my review :D

There are several distinct spaces that make it feel like you can find a corner of the gym and focus. The space isn't overly loud and there is great natural light. The sheer amount of equipment is impressive. The staff are really nice and helpful, they know most members by name which is great. Pricing is competitive. Locker rooms could probably use an overhaul and there aren't amenities like saunas, but overall really nice gym.

I came about 20 minutes early to check out the place and settle in. I signed a waiver at the front desk and put my belongings into a cubby and watched the ending of the previous class. There are 12 reformers in the studio with mats and lots of equipment to use. There is soft music playing in the background, but it's mostly just the instructors voice giving out directions of breathing and moving from section to section. I would have be extremely lost if I didn't have prior pilates knowledge. This class is at a very slow pace, I didn't feel like I got any workout of it. I should've kept my sweater on cause I was pretty cold throughout class. We started with some footwork, used the ball, black box, and the mat for planks. There is a water fountain and a bathroom in the back of the studio. Overall, compared to other boutique fitness studios, I was not impressed with the service and quality of the class.

Dear Yelp, I never thought it would happen to me…read more.. I finally found a gym that fits my schedule, my personality, my budget, and my scientifically proven need to cuss up a storm while doing kettlebell squats. (See: http://www.scientificamerican.com/article/why-do-we-swear/) First of all, it's 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You get your tag and swipe yourself in. If you want to workout at 11pm on a Friday night or 5am on a Tuesday morning, you're covered. They have panic buttons you can wear if you're there alone. I chose a 6 month membership for myself and my spouse and our rate is $80 for us both, which is quite reasonable. They also have a bowl of Kind bars. So if you worked out and you're hungry and staring across the street at Dunkin', you can grab a free healthy bar and resist. The facility is super. The gym is cozy and comfortable, with brand new weight machines, treadmills, bikes, mats, free weights, a punching thingy (I think that's the technical term), jump ropes, and various and sundry necessary fitness equipment. Even the bathrooms here are spacious and comfortable, offering scales, showers, and spotless commodes. But the excellent facilities and machines and free granola bars are not the end of the story. The place is staffed by some very dedicated professionals, including the magnificent no-nonsense trainer, Crystal. She will push you to your limit and then some, all while cheering you on as you try not to die from the umpteenth bicep curl. She has makeup like a beauty queen, a mouth like a sailor, and you get 3 personal training sessions when you sign up so she will whip you into shape and give you a customized workout plan you can do on your own. And the people who come to the gym are regular people looking to get fit. There are no crazed 88lb gymbunnies. There are no creepy orange guys with bulging veins. No one is making snide remarks about what people can or can't lift. This is the first gym I've been to where I don't feel judged, and that's the best feature of all!
