Having lost my father to alcoholism a little over a year ago, I made it clear to the staff that I was coming here in an effort to stay sober. Yet, despite my openness, I was met with condescension and disrespect. From the moment I walked in, it became painfully evident that this establishment operates less as a welcoming community space and more as a club for insiders. Newcomers, like myself, were treated with little more than cursory attention, while regulars were treated with a level of enthusiasm entirely absent in our interactions. Such favoritism not only undermines the inclusive ethos a space like this should cultivate but also leaves a sour taste that no well-made mocktail can counteract. More troubling, however, was the blatant misogyny on display. Comments and attitudes that should have no place in any modern business were casually served up alongside the drinks. As a patron, it is profoundly uncomfortable to watch staff engage with women--particularly those unfamiliar to them--with condescension or thinly veiled disrespect. It was a stark reminder that no matter how progressive an idea might seem, it can still harbor regressive attitudes behind the counter. Worse still, the staff seemed to condone outright bullying. Whether through indifference or complicity, they allowed regular patrons to mock and belittle others--especially newcomers--without intervening. For a space ostensibly meant to foster connection and community, this behavior was not only disappointing but alienating. It's hard to feel welcome in an environment where hostility is tolerated and encouraged by silence. Adding to the dysfunction, the bartenders frequently abandoned the bar to cater to customers of the vape shop at the front of the establishment. Rather than keeping one bartender dedicated to the bar and one to the vape section, the constant back-and-forth disrupted the flow of service, leaving bar patrons waiting far longer than necessary. It was a poorly managed setup that made the space feel less like a haven for sober connection and more like an afterthought to a more lucrative business up front. In short, Airavata serves excellent beverages but fails to serve basic decency. For those seeking a truly inclusive, respectful environment, I'd recommend looking elsewhere. A great drink isn't worth enduring such toxic energy.
