not feeling hungry, but figured i should eat anyway. after a quick google search for vietnamese…read morerestaurants near me, vythi cafe popped up with an impressive 4.6 rating, so i decided to give it a try.
it's located in a strip mall flanked by two restaurants that aren't shy about their reputations. one proudly declares itself famous for noodles and bbq, while the other lays claim to being famous for their all day breakfasts. nestled between them is vythi cafe, a cozy little restaurant with seating for about maybe 40 diners.
inside, the space is bright, clean, and welcoming. the turquoise accent above the counter, pendant lights, and modern decor give it a cheerful vibe. it also feels very much like a family run business.
the menu is surprisingly extensive. honestly, the drink selection alone was overwhelming. they even have durian shakes, which immediately caught my attention. i decided on the salted egg coffee, and that ended up being one of the highlights of the meal. smooth, creamy, rich, and surprisingly well balanced without being overly sweet.
for food, i ordered the chicken bánh mì and a shrimp mango salad. the bread deserves special mention because it was excellent, slightly chewy with a good crust, but soft enough that it didn't shred the roof of my mouth like some bánh mì bread tends to do.
the bánh mì came with cilantro, cucumber, shredded carrots, sliced onions, chicken, and chili. one thing i felt was missing was the pickled daikon, which usually adds that signature tangy crunch and helps tie all the flavours together. the chicken tasted more pre cooked than freshly chargrilled, so it lacked some of the smoky flavour i was hoping for. both the bánh mì and the salad carried a gentle heat that lingered pleasantly without overwhelming the other flavours. between the fresh vegetables, sweet mango, acidity and subtle spice, everything felt bright, balanced, and easy to eat.
for someone who wasn't particularly hungry when i walked in, i somehow ended up polishing off both the bánh mì and the salad.
overall, vythi cafe feels like one of those neighbourhood spots that quietly builds a loyal following. the food didn't necessarily wow me, but the quality ingredients, excellent bread, standout salted egg coffee, and welcoming atmosphere made for a very enjoyable meal. i'd happily come back, especially to work my way through more of the drink menu.
