Love it or hate it, this diner is a staple of the Silverdale community. Does it always have the best food, service, or atmosphere, no, but does it always hit that craving eggs and bacon, pie, and/or steak at 10:54 pm? Yes, yes it does.

Farmers breakfast standard with stuffed hashbrowns and biscuit & gravy.
    Steve ..

Arrived around 7:30 on a Saturday morning. Place was already pretty busy. We ordered the farmers breakfast standard with stuffed hashbrowns and a biscuit & gravy and the country ham and cheddar breakfast with biscuit & gravy. The eggs, sausage, bacon and stuffed hashbrowns were cooked well and tasted good. The biscuits were ok and the gravy needs some work, was pretty bland. Believe there was only one waitress working, and boy was she working! She was nonstop back and forth with orders and sitting guests as they trickled in. Did take a while to get our check, but with one person running everything, didn't mind the wait, Will be back again.

    Cleanliness is important.

Recently ate there with some friends from out of town. Our waitress was very nice and helpful. She kept trying to get us to buy a slice of pie, which is nothing wrong. But our food was terrible and my order was incorrect. One of my friends got the fried steak and said it was like eating the soul off of boot. I hear they have great breakfast. Perhaps I need to come back and give the place another shot.

Good ol' diner :) Comfy and warm!

Well, I grew up frequenting Shari's (though it was a location a couple hours from here) and I have always loved their warm, homey feel and the consistency with which they prepare their food. As an adult, this is my favorite place to escape and do my homework, drink coffee, and have a warm meal in the process. Their menu is huge, so there are a ton of options. They're prone to make mistakes, just like any restaurant, but they are always willing to make it right, and nearly always with a smile. This particular location is clean and their servers and managers are always welcoming and positive. The coffee is fresh and hot, the meals are good and service is consistent! I will be back - for years to come.

Came for lunch, we signed in, had to wait a few minutes while they got our table ready. Well worth a little wait. The customer service was outstanding from start to finish! Ordered coffee, water, and the Fish and Chips! OMG so delicious crunchy on outside tender & juicy inside! Tarter sauce and coleslaw pops this basket of goodness!!

But now they've moved to some new secret location and they're never open. I'm a businessman and I'd like to make money, and I want to be successful. So I'm confused as to why Cafe Kai is never open anymore? Don't they want to be successful in making a profit? You would think that if you move to a new location, you'd want people to find where you are located, and you'd want to be open long enough to sell some product. Cafe Kai's food is very good but their location is terrible and their hours are horrendous. I certainly hope the owners at Café Kai will read this review and maybe they'll pull the heads out of their rear end and stay open longer and perhaps make a couple of signs showing the secret hideout where they have moved. We hope they will change course stay open longer so that we can find them. OK guys ball balls in your court.

So if it's a mocha and 12 ounces it's $.62 for the cup and if it's a latte and 12 ounces it's 54. Same size cup, which is very odd to be charging If someone's looking at their receipt and asking questions, it's gonna slow the line down and probably add stress for the cashier as well as possible negative energy Just sharing the data points I think they should streamline this. I like that they don't want to waste, but at least almost everybody even who's drinking inside has plastic so it's a little confusing. If you ask for a glass of water, they will charge you a dollar but if you get it in glass and drink while you're on site, there is no charge Again, I appreciate that they are trying to reduce plastic for the to go water, but doesn't make any sense to me because I'm seeing plastic drinks inside the restaurant Also, I asked if I got a ice latte if it came in a bigger cup because otherwise you're getting less of a latte. A lot of places give you a bigger cup for 12 ounce latte since they're adding an ice but they don't do that here. Mocha was not hot. Coffee was so so. Barista was great. Cashier a bit annoyed with the questions. But I can understand her position especially as line begins.

In…read morefact, it's almost a given that when I encounter a tasty pie or pastry at a friend's house on Bainbridge, when I ask, it's almost a given that it came from Blackbird. They're expensive, but the old adage "you get what you pay for" definitely applies to Blackbird. You may pay more than you might somewhere else, but their quality is exceptional. Today I stopped by for one of their quiches--their spinach and goat cheese--and a lemon blueberry scone. Both were super yummy. I often get one of their chais too, which are also quite tasty (and not at all dry, a common problem with scones). Having Blackbird downtown makes it quite convenient to just stop by while on the way to elsewhere. But sometimes it can be a destination if...you can find seating, which is at a premium most of the day.

I figured it was due to taking it for granted... ...I was mistaken. Day one of our trip we ordered several items and none of them were very good at all. We ended up giving items away and thought maybe the bakery was just having an off day. The staff seemed bothered by having to take our order but hey- we all have tough days! Well...day two of our trip we decide to prioritize stopping by again. After a local saw us waiting 30 minutes for our toast and jam she told us to go ask and that "sometimes the staff can get really overwhelmed ". So my daughter stood in line a second time and was told that the employee heard we wanted it to go so it had been sitting at the end of the counter the whole time. We specified we wanted to eat it inside. We asked kindly if they could fix the mistake and we were happy to wait. To my genuine surprise the employee with the pink hair opened the bag of toast, plopped our three orders on trays along with the plastic to go tiny jams and dropped them on our table with the most dismissive uncaring attitude I've seen. You could get more care at a convenient store. We thought we'd try to eat them anyway and the pieces were cold and hard. I asked her about them and her response was "well you asked for to go". Not only does she seem incapable of doing her job basics but as an employer I'm shocked she is granted the simple tasks of serving toast in the first place. She made sure to put plenty of energy into gossiping with her co worker about her irritation with us. We have strong ties on the island still and come back often but we will gladly skip the visit here in the future. I certainly hope these staff members get some basic skills in customer service for their own future.

The breakfast sandwiches are so good! Fresh cooked eggs and biscuits. The biscuits are so flaky and light and good!! The bottom is soft, but the tops have a crisp to them. I got the sausage egg and cheese. The egg was cooked perfectly, biscuit was superior to a lot of biscuits I've had in restaurants and the gochujang aioli on top was the perfect compliment!! It wasn't spicy, but still added so much flavor. I had a special soda made by Marisa with lime, mint, lychee and soda water. Very simple, but very satisfying and not overly sweet. The chairs are comfortable and there's ample seating. The booths have outlets at each table area which makes it super convenient for laptops and chargers. The crowd is mixed. Young and older people mill about. People were having meetings, chatting with friends and working just like me. It's not sketchy and felt totally safe. 10/10 recommend.
