Her place is in Danville- it's small and quiet which is what you really need rather than a large place with lots of chatting and people walking around. You can tell she cares about what she does. She started off by a therapeutic massage so I got relaxed right away. When it was time for the acupuncture part, it was painless. I don't know how she did it, but I barely felt the needles going in. When she took the needles out, I didn't feel a thing. She told me to get up because it was done, I was like "Aren't you going to take the needles out?" She said it was already taken out. AMAZING! In 2023 and 2024 I began experiencing severe bilateral sciatica and sensory nerve pain. I was being seen by neurologists at UCSF, who at the time were still trying to diagnose what was happening and struggling to get my pain under control. I started seeing Kristen at least once a week, and during the worst of it, twice a week. I continued seeing her for more than a year. There were days when I could barely stand or move when I arrived at her office, and I would leave feeling human again. Even though nerve pain is incredibly difficult to control at that point in my life, the few hours of relief that Kristen gifted me were incredibly meaningful. Kristen is different from other practitioners I had seen. She is incredibly attentive and meticulous about her notes. She keeps track of what works, what didn't, what changed, and how I responded. She has a background in engineering, and it comes through in the way she practices--she has the mind of a scientist. She is analytical, curious, always learning, and constantly pursuing continuing education. She doesn't just go through the motions or do the same thing every time. She thinks about what she is doing and why. Paying attention to and remembering my input and reactions. Kristen is also an extraordinarily caring and empathetic person. She understood that chronic pain--especially when you don't yet know exactly what is causing it--affects far more than your body. She treated the stress and emotional pain I was carrying along with the physical pain, and she became an incredible source of support to me during that time. Her emotional release treatments made me feel whole again. I don't say this lightly: I genuinely don't know how I would have gotten through that period without her. There are so many acupuncturists in San Francisco and on the Peninsula that it can be overwhelming to choose one, particularly when you're already exhausted from being in pain and when your trust is eroded from being lost in the medical system. Transformative…read more Decades ago, I had a car accident that resulted in spine injuries that changed my life. In the years since, I've had 20+ surgeries and medical procedures to treat it... some successful, some not. But the low back pain has always remained, which means that I have never been able to have a good night's sleep. Ever. Up and down, changing positions all night long. Miserable due to lack of sleep the next day. I recently decided to give acupuncture a shot (haha). I've had acupuncture in the past, from a young, enthusiastic practitioner. Didn't make much difference. I now understand that she was fresh out of acupuncture training, and I was one of her first guinea pigs. Sigh. What I need is someone with serious experience. I am desperate for relief, and have friends who rave about acupuncture, so I opted to give it one more try. Yelp brought me to Jenny. SHE IS AMAZING.
