My husband and I went to see Dr. Striar when we hit a rough patch and she was fantastic. We were looking for some experienced and confident enough to share her opinions, and thankfully, that is what we got. Dr. Striar has a wonderful gift of being both candid and kind, giving it to you straight but doing so in a way that feels supportive and constructive. She also gave us tools that have been extremely helpful in our conflicts, getting us to a place where can communicate much better. We have returned to her once or twice, knowing that she will have sage, grounded insights that we can both take to heart. If you need a therapist, I can't recommend her more highly. read more

I think 'mentor' is the most suitable title for Dr. Striar. I first talked to her a few years ago as a troubled young man, anxious, insecure, jealous, lost and she took her time in asking and learning who I am as a person. Her opinions and suggestions are straight-to-the-point and putting them into practice quickly improved the many difficulties of life that were troubling me. Her unbiased wisdom on all the troubles and questions helped me deal with my anxiety, jealousy, and insecurity. These are things I will continue to improve on in my life with Dr. Striar's suggestions in mind. I did not work with Dr Striar for very long. She told me that I most likely had a drinking problem and I of course wasn't ready to hear that at the moment. I abruptly stopped seeing her. Thanks to her frankness and calling me out like she did I ended up getting help. The point of therapy is to become a better version of yourself and Dr. Striar was trying to help me. I just wasn't ready to listen. This was ten years ago, and now I truly appreciate the experience I had with her. Dr. Striar will not sugar coat anything. Dr. Striar was recommended to me by a very good friend of mine who suffered with addiction for many years. He is grateful for her and told me If I ever need a psychotherapist who does NOT sugar coat things, and help me with any issues I should go to her. Dr. Striar helped me control my temper. something I thought nobody could ever help me with because I am already too old to change. I am a mother of 2 boys with a part time job and a part time graduate student. Often times my temper would turn into some harsh yelling towards my kids. I've yelled so much that my boys did not want me around much. Not only did she help me control my temper, but she helped me understand where it was coming from, what made me lash out at my boys so much. I've seen her on weekly basis (last year) for a few months and she really instilled some sound advice and guidance in me on how to control my temper. After about 3 months both of my boys (age 9 and 17.5) told me this "mom, we have noticed you don't yell at us anymore, we don't know why but we love you this way". That made me burst into tears and I wasn't even aware I had stopped the yelling and lashing out. So, yes Dr Striar gets credit for this positive change in my behavior. I continue to see her (this time for another issue). She is funny, witty, compassionate, I highly recommend her. Dr. Striar is a compassionate, innovative , open minded therapist who has guided my husband and I out of some sticky situations and has also helped me to find a greater understanding of my own issues. I have been working with her for over four years and have never been disappointed. I know I can count on her to provide guidance and support without judgement in a cosy environment whenever needed. She employs a highly effective combination of talk therapy, exercises and real life examples, and I feel the results are clearly palpable. I have been a patient of Dr. Striar for 2.5 years now, and truly can't say enough good things about her. I was referred by a friend who had been facing some tough family issues and had described Dr. Striar as a "life saver".
