I see that it is "closed," and all I can say is that they should close! I had a horrifying experience with them today. I have bought my nice furs from Bergdorf's, Maximillion at Bloomingdale's, Saks and Neiman Marcus--I have top of the line furs. I had been letting Sharnelle store them. Last year was fine. They picked them up, and they delivered them after storage, and I signed for them. This year they picked them up last spring, and today they were supposed to deliver between 11 and 2:00. I live on the Upper West Side in Manhattan. At 2:00, after waiting for them all day, I called (for the second time about the delivery). They LIED and said, "I delivered, and the doorman called you, and you were not there." The doorman, who has been the perfectly reliable and honest doorman of mine for three years said, "He is flat out lying. He dropped off your furs like it was dry cleaning in this plastic bag, and I asked, 'Do you want me to call her?' and the Sharnelle fur guy said, "No." The doorman asked, "Do you want to go up to deliver them to her?" The Sharnelle fur guy said, "No." I assume this was because he felt rushed with so many deliveries --I had been told earlier they were very busy when I called about when they would be here--but that is no excuse. It is EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL AND DANGEROUS to leave expensive furs with anyone but the owner, especially when the owner is waiting on the delivery! When he accused me of not being home I said, "Why didn't you call me? You have my cell number. You should have called me yourself before just leaving them." He did not even apologize. I said, "How could you do this to me? My furs are so nice, and if they get stolen, that is that because you did not leave them with me, and I never signed for them, and you have been so unprofessional that I will never leave my furs with you again!" I was so thankful that they were all there, but I had five pieces; for all I knew they had only dropped off two or three! This is no way to do business. The heading says they are "CLOSED". Well, hopefully so! I can only hope it was not because they stole someone's furs or "lost" the furs on delivery or whatever. These people are liars. Do not deal with them. read more

Marcello and his brother are very knowledgeable professionals! They are very helpful in explaining the types of furs (the pros and cons of each), and the care required for each type. They have a great selection of furs here (both for ready-made and custom order), a large selection of products (ranging from coats, to ear-muffs, scarves), and their tailors are impeccable at designing coats suitable to your needs. The tailors could even alter your existing coats to fit a rabbit-lining etc. I came across this shop two years ago to have a mink coat tailored. First, Marcello and his brother presented me with mink pelts of different classes. After selecting one (at a very reasonable price point IMO), Marcello brought out mink coats in different designs so that I could select the cut I like best. I selected features from the different mink coats, and throughout the process, Marcello made suggestions for what would suit my body type best. Everything was measured to the utmost precision-- ranging from the type of clasp/lining/ pockets I want, to how tight I wanted the funnel neck. When I returned 3 weeks later, they presented me with the most beautiful coat-- the coat of my dreams. Even better, it fitted me like a glove! Since then, I have returned to Marcello for small repairs. Being the clumsy me, I have accidentally ripped it a few times at the underarm/elbow areas. I brought the coat back here, and Marcello and his brother always repairs them free of charge and within a week! Sharnelle Furs is the best! read more

There is an outstanding selection of coats in all types of fur and prices. I ended up buying a coat I really like at a decent price - I usually shop in Italy for coats so I know what quality is. This store is fantastic. A throwback to a bygone era of caring, attentive, custom service. It's not just the diverse selection of merchandise -- all different styles and sizes - but the outstanding deals. (I saw the same coat in Saks for almost five times the price.) You feel as though you enter an old fashioned family business - and you do! It reminds me of New York in the old days. Real service. As far as fur is concerned, they have everything and then some. They even have a magnificent collection of chinchilla for prices you can't find anywhere. This is the place where Madison and Fifth avenue shoppers go and keep it a secret. read more

The best fur shop in that area. They are professional and respectful even if you don't buy anything. My experience with some other stores there has been annoying where they think you as a customer are an idiot and do not know how to respect their products. Also, the products ( strollers, 3/4 jackets, various scarves and hates, etc) I have seen at this store have always been better priced than their competition. I have purchased a jacket and a stole from here over the past three years I have been coming here. I have always enjoyed good service and excellent price. I made the mistake of not doing my homework before purchasing a pair of mink ear muffs at Sharnelle Furs at 151 West 28th street. I was very disappointed to find better quality earmuffs for nearly half the price two blocks up at Megaris Furs. Other stores in the neighborhood (around West 29th and West 30th) were selling mink earmuffs for $25-$35 when I paid $60 at Sharnelle! Other than that, the shop is really small with not much selection compared to others in the neighborhood. read more

I have stored my coats with Sharnelle for over ten years and have had two coats remodelled. One was made into a reversible , versatile and warm, and the other one was recently made into a vest and a scarf. The managers were very helpful, presented me with a few alrernatives for the remodels and I went with what I thought I would wear the most. I absolutely love my new pieces, and get lots of compliments on them. It is nice to get the personal attention and their pricing is fair. read more
