Personable, honest, prompt. Storage for two pieces is very reasonable, and they were able to remove a small stain from a Toscana shearling. (I was told they do all cleaning and storage on site, which makes them more secure than a huge operation that handles hundreds of thousands of pieces from all over the countThey stored two small fur accessories along with my coat and jacket for free. They have many beautiful pieces available at a range of price points. Jodie will show you around the store and ask if you're interested, but she is not pushy in any way - selling stock is her job. Warning: This company TOTALLY Destroyed my fur. Went for a fitting - back a week later to try on - coat not ready. Back in 2 more weeks and the fur was too small to even fasten. I was in shock and furious. Mr. Kaufman assured me that he could fix it - with WHAT i replied - the skins were tossed evidently. But, he stated "don't worry - we have plenty of skins." Well, of what quality???? Demanded that he either get the fit right in every way or pay me, what was years ago, the equivalent of $9000. He NEVER got it right. One pocket is lower than the other and the fasteners are out of position. Whats more, the fur ripped on both sides the first time I wore it. Unless you want to listen to a con man lecture you on why climate change is a big hoax, do not even consider going here - ever. read more

I cannot vouch for the quality of work, but the level of consideration and honesty is evident at this shop. I was welcomed warmly and with genuine care. Ultimately, and unfortunately, I was told that my fur is too old and not worth putting in time/$$. It was sad to hear, but I was glad I ended up here because a couple other shops (that I got bad vibes from) would likely not have turned away business with my benefit in mind. One word about the operation here: chaos. They did some sort of extra cleaning service that I didn't ask for and tried to charge me an extra $100 - after I had already paid in full. A hook closure that was put on my coat fell off within 24 hours. Customer service was not what I expected for what I spent. Even though their website repeatedly says they rent coats and ship to any location, I called them to ask about options and was given a flat out, "No" when I inquired about details for renting coats for an event I'm planning in February 2016. Brought a vintage sheared beaver coat to be altered, shoulders and arms. It took two months, and when I got it the drop from shoulder to under arms was uneven, one side was a full inch longer. I brought i back and after two weeks called, they were a bit brusque, then couldn't figure out where the coat was, finally located it at an outside repair sourse and said they were very busy and it would be done 'soon'; I would have thought they'd be quick to fix their error. Finally got the coat back after two more weeks, and it was still not fixed. Nothing was different. They seem to lose track of their alterations as they send them out to be done, and the work is obviously sloppy. I just gave up, I'll have to take it somewhere else to be properly altered. The furs they have for sale in the shop are very pretty but in terms of service I'd take a pass. read more

I received extremely rude treatment from this place. On their website they say they buy vintage and estate furs, but when I called to ask about this on behalf of a well-known celebrity, the woman I spoke to said they don't buy "old" furs. That is the definition of vintage. When I asked for a referral she also claimed she had no idea who does buy vintage furs, that she has never heard of Henry Cowit inc., the largest buyer of used and vintage furs in the country. I was shocked at how rude and condescending this woman was and would advise anyone considering doing business with this place to take that into account. read more

I contemplated a bit before writing this review but became annoyed when I looked at my coat this morning. Took my beautiful ranch full length mink coat on a Thursday 2 weeks ago to be shortened with specific instructions to Jodi to keep the French hem. Jodi was She was pre-occupied with telephone calls and I found her inattentive until she asked for pre-payment while Marc pretty much stood around making small talk. I was a little taken, but I paid. I leave a coat with them worth $$$$$, and they ask for pre-payment. Coat promised for following Tuesday. I called as I was asked to do before coming in. Jodi's response to my question regarding readiness of coat was an off-handed, 'probably not'. I asked what exactly did that mean before she offered to question the alteration staff. Answer was coat would be ready on Friday. No problem. I called on Thursday and was told it was ready. I went down to pick it up. French hem was not done; rather an upturned hem larger than any I've ever seen on a fur coat. Jodi offered no apology. Marc offered to fix it, but I would have to leave it with them. I decided to take it as I was reluctant to leave my coat with them as this seemed such a small job and they got it wrong. Marc then offered to fix it when I bring it in for storage, which they pitched the day I brought coat in for alteration. Nothing was put in writing, and my confidence in them had dwindled. Upon leaving, I had to ask Marc to wrap coat for me to take home; he did not offer. Not sure if he expected me to take it off the hanger behind Jodi's desk and wrap it or what. Don't think I will become a storage customer as they showed no real interest in good customer service. Be warned! A terrible,stressful experience. After having been recommended by an acquaintance who is familiar with Marc Kaufman Furs, I gave my beautiful full-length mink to Marc for remodeling on November 6, 2017. He picked up the coat at my home in NJ and took measurements stating it would take two weeks. It went into 3 weeks, 4 weeks, 5 weeks, during which time my calls and e-mails trying to find out the status of the coat went unanswered. By this time, I was really nervous -- It was now almost Christmas and I heard nothing. I was completely stressed out and worried. The person who recommended him interceded on my behalf by calling them and I was told through her that I would get the coat within a week. It was finally delivered at almost 9:00 pm the Friday before Christmas (almost seven weeks from the day it was picked up) at which time I was told by Marc that they had lost the coat for three weeks and couldn't find it. Why, then, weren't my calls and e-mails answered and why wasn't I advised of this? Inexcusable! The monogram was missing and Marc said to call him after the holidays and he would take care of it. Unfortunately, having been recently ill and exhausted, I neglected to look carefully at the coat that evening, just being relieved to get it back. When I tried it on the following day, it was far too big in front and need altering (as well as the missing monogram). It was obvious that after this fiasco and finally finding the lost coat, this was a rush job. Had I looked it over carefully, I would not have accepted it or paid him. ($200 was deducted from the original quote of $1200 and I paid $1000.) I left a phone message for Marc the morning of January 8, 2018 . He did call back and I told him I had issues with the coat and he advised he would pick it up that evening or the following evening and, in his words, he "would take care of it." He never came and never called and he obviously had no intention of ever doing so. At this point, after so much frustration and stress, I must take the coat to another furrier for alteration which will mean further cost. I advised Marc of this on January 18, 2018 via e-mail (never having heard from him at all by that date and obviously never expecting to hear from him). An expensive lesson learned!! read more

Excellent place to shop for fur! I stopped in a few months ago with a very outdated vintage mink coat that I knew couldn't be reworked. Jody was terrific and helped me find something more contemporary and knocked a substantial amount off of the price with the trade in. When my jacket finally arrived it needed a few alterations to make it perfect. I went in on a Friday and by Sunday afternoon Marc was at my door delivering my brand new jacket! It needed a little repair in the seam and a buckle that was loose, and she offered to fix it for free. MARC KAUFMAN IS A CROOK!! THE LAST REVIEWER IS EXACTLY RIGHT. I put several coats in storage with Kaufman. The repairs required were not properly done. The coats were not cleaned (I found an old tissue in one pocket for example). He charged me $1,500. Even with all of this, I would not have written this review, but here is the worst part--I have a two pieces that he was supposed to repair. After 9 months! of repeated calls, I had to get an attorney involved to get him to return it. My attorney had to fight him for two months. Once I finally got the jacket back there was tremendous damage to it. THIS IS NOT AN HONEST BUSINESS INDEED. DO SOME RESEARCH ONLINE.
