I have been with Sharp for more than 20 years with a short time at another provider due to my insurance changing at the time. I would give them a solid 5 stars as the care of my GP and the staff are wonderful. However, I recently was laid off and went in for an appointment to pay out of pocket for. No blood work, labs anything; just taking with a doctor who was filling in for my GP who is out. I was told that the estimate was $216 without any labs or other work. I paid in full. Then, I received multiple phone call saying I owe and addtiinal $84 and I asked for what. The person calling said that I signed a form saying it was only and estimate and I had signed it. I asked why the higher amount and they admitted that I went over the time allowed for a visit. NO WHERE on and form I signed did it state "you have 20 minutes with a doctor and any time over that will be billed". So, they said they would look into it and contact me. I asked to speak with a supervisor and that person called me back a few days later and said the same "well, you signed a form" which I asked again to tell me where in the form it states that I there is a time limit if 20 minutes". She rattled off some codes and said I could look them up online and I again asked to show me where it states that there is a 20 minute time limit. She repeated herself again and finally, being fed up, I said I was disputing this. She said they would look into it and someone would get back to me within 48 hours. Almost 2 weeks later, I am still waiting. Be wary if you are paying out of pocket for a general visit if your time and ask if there is a charge for being over 20 minutes. Again, no blood or lab work, only blood pressure checked and doctor looked at an area of concern on my chest and spoke to me about a nerve disorder I have. That was all they did and I left. TLDR: Overcharged, spent over $1000 out of pocket because they would never listen. Leaving this group. I have been with Sharp Rees Steally since 2011, and I am now looking elsewhere. I went into urgent care for infection on my hand after previously going to telehealth doctors twice. (Telehealth doctor told me to take OTC medicine and later an antibiotic ointment.) I took the OTC medicine for a month then noticed it got worse. I went to Sharp Santee urgent care and had culture done. At the same time I was given regular antibiotics. Ten days later I went to NP in doctor's office and said all is well. 2 hours later I got a call that the culture results showed positive and was told to once again take the same OTC medicineI had been on for the last 2 months. (I told them I was already on it for 2 months and was ignored.) I was never given the correct medicine until I finally went to the dermatologist. Dermatologist is the ONLY person that listened to me. I also got billed for urgent care as if I saw a dermatologist, which I NEVER did. (I owe $280 for this.) I now owe $200 for NP which did absolutely nothing. I will owe the dermatologist $280 for my recent visit, and another $280 for a follow up. Overall, I am out of pocket over $1000 because they cannot listen. I should have been given correct medicine from the onset since I specifically mentioned I had been on the OTC version for over a month and it was getting worse. I provided pictures, history of what had happened and details along the way. No adequate help was ever given until I was out of pocket over $1000. read more

I have been with Sharp for 25+ years, doctors are nice and knowledgable, and other things are good or reasonable until recent years. In last three years, I had a lot of bad experience with billing department, they send me bills more than one year later multiple times, which made me cannot use my medical FSA money. in 2025, one endoscopy operation requested by GI doctor to rule out cancer was denied by insurance due to lack of documents, Sharp asked me to dispute with insurance company. Even after insurance company sent me a letter explaining what are missing. Sharp refused to receive the letter from me or even read it, of course they would not take any action either, which is absurd given Sharp asked me to dispute with insurance to begin with. I don't know what is going on with billing department or relevant departments in last three years. I just hope that they can improve their admin, customer service and billing departments quality given they still have very good doctors. read more

I recently had to schedule a colonoscopy, my first one ever. Not gonna' lie, it was a little scary for me. I made an appointment for a Friday morning at Sharp Rees-Stealy in Clairemont. I was extremely pleased with the level of care that I received throughout the entire process. From checking in at the desk to being wheeled out. Exemplary care. I met my RN Jamie first. I spent the most time with Jamie. She took my vitals, hooked up my IV and was the one to explain everything as it was going on and letting me know what to expect. She was smart, funny, cute personable and professional in every way. I never had any children, but if I did, Jamie would make for the perfect daughter-in-law. 10-4 to that! Next I met Dr. Thuy Le. I met with her for just a few minutes so she could explain how the procedure would work. She was performing said procedure so most of my time with Dr. Le was spent with me passed out. I also met RN Wendy. She was with Dr. Le during the procedure so I really don't remember much of Wendy. She was nice and blonde and pretty. I remember that. Afterwards, when I came to, Dana with the pretty smile was there. They brought my wife Becky back to the recovery area and Dana was explaining to us after-care. Well, I was still high as a kite, so hopefully Becky was listening. LOL! This was the most major medical procedure I'd ever had done. I had never before been "put under" either. This crew of fine ladies allayed all of my fears and took exceptional care of me. When it was all said and done I felt a little foolish for being so nervous. read more

I have been with Sharp for 15 years. I am very happy with my PCP (Jubran) and Rheumatologist (Mayer). I am not happy with how long it is taking to get appointments. Three months to see my PCP for some skin patches that had turn colors after my mastectomy. 2.5 months to get an appointment for an appointment with a podiatrist. I am to have a knee replacement but can't even get an orthopedic appointment as they are very busy. Just scheduled an MRI that is 4 weeks out. I hate to go to Urgent Care for these sorts of things. What about some contracts with outside specialists until the backlog is reduced? read more

I've been a patient of SRS for many years, but recently have found getting appointments for just about anything is really difficult. My primary physician ordered a CT scan - 6 week wait/end of July - and now a follow up appointment with him cannot be carried out until mid August . I think the problem is that Scripps ended their Medicare Advantage plans and a lot of seniors moved to Sharp in my area (Rancho Bernardo), and SRS has taken them on but not any more medical or tech staff. Unfortunately UCSD does not have a presence (yet) in this area. Seriously thinking of moving to Scripps (I have Medicare original) until such time as UCSD arrives. read more

Don't be fooled by the "we are deeply saddened"comments under every bad review. They could care less. SHARP REES is the WORST! We have had Sharp for several years and it's been one problem after another. After I delivered my baby via cesarean, we left after just 24 hours. Why did we leave after 24 hours? Because they told us that any additional days stayed would cost us $600 per day -which was a LIE we later found out. Because of this misinformation we decided to heal at home causing me to limp back to next day appointments with swollen feet and mastitis which they told me if I needed ANY care for, I needed to go to the ER! The best part was when they refused to fill a pain medication after a c section!! I was left to take medication that was prescribed to my dog for any relief. This was the time I should have been able to enjoy with our newborn but because I didn't stay in the hospital for them to bill insurance, I was punished. So it felt like. Shortly after, my newborn who was fully insured, was sick and I had scheduled an appointment with her primary pediatrician , I sat in the waiting room while they told me she was not insured and they argued with me until she missed her appointment and could not be seen. Only for them to find that she was insured. No apology. Just scheduled her for another 2 weeks out. She was so sick that her congestion made her unable to breast feed and after a month of her being born she was on the bottle. I'm still hurt from this. They robbed us of our care, her health and of our time to bond. They do not care about the patients. Today I was received a call from staff that I needed my '3 month follow up' for an anxiety prescription I've been on for over 3 years. The doctor's next available appointment was 3 months out. My "primary doctor". The receptionist was arrogant and pushy as I questioned "why now"? And that I had no desire to come in for a follow up about a low dose of Zoloft. You mean you want me to pay a copay while you "mmm hmmm" me for 2 minutes and quickly rush out so you can charge the insurance $600 for your stellar service . No thanks. My husband is also insured with them. He made his first doctors appointment after years of coverage for them to bill him and not the insurance. When he asked why they didn't bill insurance for his 5 minute appointment for a basic initial exam, they sent a new bill. Doubled it for insurance which required him to pay more out of pocket. What??! We are done. Between your negligence, your awful online portal that doesn't even work, the inability to schedule an appointment in a reasonable timeframe, the incompetence and rude staff, the doctors that work 2 days a week, we have had enough. read more

OMG - This health coverage, and specifically their online portal, and the way their phone system is setup, is terrible. The portal won't let me sign on, or create a new password, and if you call, the phone menu directs you back to the portal. I've spent the whole morning trying to get through to records for an upcoming surgery. I've made 5 calls. Twice the menu system itself glitched out and I had to call back. Once I was put on hold and somehow got disconnected. And the last call I was on hold for a total of 30 minutes. I tried to get through yesterday to IT, but couldn't get through to anyone. Man, I so glad they got rid of FollowMyHealth and replaced it Sharp.com. LOL! Most of the people that work with patients at Sharp are lovely. But whoever set up the website and phone system should try thinking about the patient experience occasionally. The worst! read more

While I have truly loved the care I get here for the last 10 years, I have seen a substantial decline in the last 3 years. Wait times to see my primary care doctor whe I am SICK are now 4 months. They funnel everyone through urgent care. Also they are currently in violation of California Code, Health and Safety Code - HSC § 1367.695 passed in 1999 to prevent "gatekeeping" of OBGYN access for women. They force women to get a referral from primary care (4 mo wait time) for any issue other than a "well checkup". Shame on Sharp Rees-Stealy. I look forward to moving my medical group to UCSD where there are long wait times but at least I will have top care if I am ever hospitalized. (They have higher hospital survival rates). read more

Not sure why I was allowed to make an appointment at that location and check-in. The appointment was made months ago, so I could get a day off. I appreciate the technician for her due diligence. Don't use sharp! As others have mentioned their customer service sucks!! My wife had to change providers due to my insurance plan being terminated so she decided on sharp healthcare and then sharp Rees stealy, both were terrible. She called a doctor assigned to her twice with no return call Ever! Next doctor she called took days to get back and then scheduled an appointment almost 2 months out? My wife has major back issues that have labeled her as fully disabled and she's in need of medication to ease the major pain she's in, so she went to the clinic in La Mesa at 7:00 Am to get on the schedule if a cancellation happened. Well there was a cancellation and she waited for over two hours to be seen and issued a couple prescriptions, the doctor explained that she couldn't issue those medications without my wife going through pain management classes and then other things. Mind you my wife is disabled and has been through every class, taken shots and went to acupuncture with no avail but it obviously seems like they didn't look at her 10+ years of records from her previous doctor. Meanwhile she's made 2 months of payments to them and hasn't seen a doctor till waiting today. They made a terrible first impression and my wife is dropping them asap!! You can find better healthcare providers out there just don't use Sharp!! read more

8-31-2023 *This is strictly regarding the billing department/SRS Policy on bill payment * I have been going to SRS for over 4 years now, within the last year my adult son passed away unexpectedly, so I was coping with his passing and unable to pay my bills from June 2023 through August 8, 2023. My total due is 1,331.00 and my bills are in collections/it hasn't been 3 months. I do have an entire year before it will go on my credit according to billing. The billing staff were nice, but why did they send everything to collections so fast??? Maybe they can handle things a little better. read more

Review is for Dr. Gleason (cardiology): I had the best experience with Dr. Gleason yesterday. This was the first time I felt taken seriously by a doctor in a long time. She was kind, patient, and I did not at all feel like she was in a rush. She took the time to look through my medication interactions and quickly found what was causing my heart symptoms. I felt so relieved after this appointment, and I felt like she actually cared about my health and well-being. The nurse and PA I had were great too- super friendly and reassuring. Dr. Gleason was also able to immediately order me labs- they were taken on the same floor just 10 minutes after my appointment ended. I usually get anxious about visiting doctors, especially new ones, but Dr. Gleason was amazing and I would highly recommend her and Sharp to anyone. read more

Strickly regarding the pharmacy: They do NOT give a damn about your needs, timelines and even your doctors pharmacy orders. They will override the doctors orders without telling the doctor, leaving the patient in pain or helpless due to the need for some controlled meds. I am a cancer survivor and have specific medical needs. Do yourself a favor and go to CVS, or a Von's that has a pharmacy. Once you have an issue with Sharp Pharmacy they will tag your account. read more

Simply put: - She had the gaul to interrupt my wife via video conference and laughed at her for asking for an anti viral RX - This 2.3/5.0 star young doctor then had further audacity to lecture her that she's a Doctor. My Sharp RS doctor is great, however it appears the Sharp medical staff doesn't seem to give a damn about protecting patients. She wants me to do a colonoscopy...AND anther procedure. For the colonoscopy, I can wear an N95 mask, but for an upper endoscopy, I cannot - I simply asked her if the team (MD, RN, tech) can wear N95s, apparently that is too much for staff!!! "The gastroenterologist recommends upper endoscopy in addition to the colonoscopy. He is not sure he can get all the staff to wear a mask." - I wrote her that Covid wastewater rates are increasing quite a bit, local positively and hospitalizations are also trending up. We are entering a summer surge in Covid, perhaps less than previous summers and I am fully vaccinated. But I do NOT want to get Long Covid (she told me she had a LC patient in her office last week....I asked what she could do for them and she stated, not much, treat the symptoms....SO SHARP, DON'T YOU THINK ITS BETTER TO PREVENT LONG COVID THAN GIVE IN TO AN RN OR TECH WHO DOESN'T WANT TO MASK DURING AN INVASIVE PROCEDURE? First ,in order to get an appointment with a doctor takes about 4 months if u are lucky. Next ,once your appointment is about to happen they call u to cancel it and it takes another 4 months I just had my third appointment cancel in less than 2 weeks the office of Dr campbell in Chula Vista, radiology department in Mira Mesa and a phone appointment . It is extremely hard to book an appointment and the doctors don't even listen to your concerns. If I could give them a ZERO, I would. Not only does it take MONTHS to see a physician, you cannot see a specialist without a Sharp Rees Stealy primary care physician referral. Our primary care up and quit without notice, so we are in limbo until March when the next available appointment with the new guy. My eye doc says I need to see a neurologist to rule out a brain tumor, and Sharp Rees Stealy Neurology will not even schedule an appointment without an SRS referral. They will not accept an outside MD's referral. So I have to wait a month and a half to even get to schedule an appointment, which will then take a few more months probably to see the specialist. So, plain and simple, THEY DO NOT CARE. They are only focused on their referral PROTOCOL and actual patient well-being be damned. The care is alright. They take care of me and address my concerns to the best to their ability. However, the office experience is a bit lacking. I asked about my billing statements and they said none had been sent yet. I asked the same question a month later, reviewed my account online every week and no updates were posted. I check today and im hit with an $85 bill for the late fees. I'll be sure to grill the office receptionists and post notes on my file about these questions because there's no way I'm allowing them to weasel more money out of me than they should. read more

This Sharp Rees-Stealy is in an old building- it is small. I am spoiled and go to the Sorrento Mesa one and that one is completely upgraded so coming here, it makes me feel extremely closed-in and dirty. The chairs in the waiting area are stained and it took me a few looks to find a chair that I would want to sit on. I love Sharp, don't get me wrong, but I think this building needs an upgrade. Even the exam rooms feel old and the floors are stained. You have to pay for parking at this SRS. WHAT? I understand that many places charge for parking now but the Sorrento Mesa and the Mira Mesa locations do not charge for parking. Also, this isn't Downtown so why do they feel the need to charge their patients extra? Granted, it's only $2 but I know lots of elderly people who visit doctors often and the $2 can add up for them on their limited incomes. Parking only takes cash or check so be prepared for it. The staff here is nice but this would not be my preferred SRS location unless I had to come (which I do for pulmonary services). read more

TLDR: If you want to see a group of well-organized conpeople, then go here. They will not tell you what their services cost when you ask, so you keep going until the bill comes due and will not budge on errors they made, but instead try to gaslight you into thinking it was your fault. My experience aligns with other people who have referenced feeling forced into an HMO-type pay structure. Then when you move to PPO, they will not tell you what the services cost. I called to change my insurance as soon as I got it a week before my Physical Therapy appointment. It took six tries after that to get it to stick. Unfortunately, my new insurance is a PPO, so I had to pay out of pocket. The receptionists did not know how much I owed. The billing department could not tell me how much I owed... after several hours, a department called revenue told me what I owed. And it's a lot. Upon being told this, I asked for forgiveness for their error, and they refused and gave me the runaround. Something is not right about this. Everyone spoke highly of their Patient and & Community Liason (which the bar was pretty low due to how no one was getting back to me or could give me a straight answer.) After getting off the phone with him, it was clear he had the hospital's interests in mind. He proceeded to tell me that I should have known what I owed... This is where I knew it was time to move on to other options. Clearly, I need to seek other options. Currently talking to health Insurance and doing more research into CA consumer law. I have been with Sharp for 12 years now. I had two amazing PCPs, both now retired. I have noticed a very steep decline in the past two years, however. I have been punted from one speciality to another because the doctors there refuse to treat Fibromyalgia. They force you into an HMO type of system where you need a PCP referral in order to see a specialist, EVEN if you have already been diagnosed and need a new appointment. It's more money for them while it takes more time for the patient to access care. My neurologist told me to see my PCP for ongoing care of my fibro and migraines; my PCP says no, see your neurologist. The ophthalmic nurse at Fir Street referred to fibromyalgia as a psychosomatic condition; it's all in your head, he said. The interim PCP asked if I had tried Tylenol to treat my chronic pain; seriously? My new PCP refused to prescribe a medication I have been taking for years because "it isn't FDA approved to treat fibromyalgia"; Yes, it is approved as an off label medication, just do your research. I have just switched medical group, I am done with them. read more

The HMO - HSA plan is ridiculously expensive and the deductible is crap but you feel pretty calm once you are in their network and you are suffering from a life or death experience. Basically, I don't think they are four stars for the earth. More so this is as good as gets for a shit show of a American health care system. Removing the individual mandate made it way worse (thanks #45) but I digress. I am concerned about the lack of flexibility of my plan but hey, I don't have the money to upgrade... Being middle class in America sucks. That's why some day I will be less poor unless I get behind on my 2 year old surgery bills because of some unforeseen event. Again, I digress. Honestly, not worth your time. Tried to work out a customer service issue with the billing department, and all the representative did is argue with me. They charge $25 for missed appointments and don't take away the charges even if it was a mistake on the doctor's part. Since there is a lack of communication between billing and doctors and no way to resolve it or sharpen the communication, I got stuck with charges that were not my mistake. They really need to better their customer service in the billing department and work to find solutions instead of rattling off their current policies and practices. If you recognize that there is an issue in the lack of communication on your end and still charge the customer, it's a bad sign. I had appointments made for me that I did not schedule on multiple occasions. I would honestly go somewhere else, it's not worth the time or arguing here. read more

My Do tors have all been good but the business office reeks of incompetence. I just received a bill saying it is 90 days past due. This is the third time this has happened to me and when I ask what it's about it is always some small add on, this time $10. A big surprise to me as I have no co-pays for physicians. It has until now turned out to be a lab fee for which I did NOT receive bill, so the only notification has been the late notice. I'm usually extremely satisfied with Sharp. The one-star deduction today is because I was charged $25 at CVS for my flu shot. I made a last-minute appointment at my local CVS, and didn't find out they don't take Sharp and there was a co-payment until right before getting the shot. At that point, I was better off paying $25 rather than making an appointment at Sharp and missing out a half-day at work (I don't get paid if I don't show up). I know I can make an appointment at my local Sharp location and won't be charged at all. However, they aren't taking walk-ins, and they aren't scheduling flu shots on the weekends. My suggestions: make weekend flu shots available, and figure out a way that patients know about the co-payment in drug stores in a timely fashion. I still recommend Sharp. UPDATE: I just read in the Sharp website that a flu shot at CVS's MinuteClinic doesn't have a copay. If anyone from Sharp reads my review, any ideas as to why I was charged $25? read more

I have w wonderful doctors which is the only reason I stay. it is virtually impossible to schedule appointments. they are months out. for example I am a heart patient I had open heart surgery in may 21 my cardiologist wanted to run some tests due to having chest pain it took almost 3 months to get the tests. its great medical care if you can get in to see a doctor. I have been with them over 10 years it was not like this until honestly covid. For example today I had a telemedicine appointment that was scheduled 4 months ago and the MD never showed up. But if I did not show up they would be quick to charge a no show fee. read more

The location and doctor is at family practice located near the hospital. The female doctor assigned to us lacks compassion and empathy She truly doesn't represent the Sharps commercial as advertised. The doctor seems to lack experience in dealing with complex medical issues. She referred us to emergency and upon arrival at emergency we were placed in a room were a previous patient urinated in the bed and my family member sat in someone else's urine and was given a pad to sit on for the cat ride home because his pants were soaked by someone else's urinE left on the bed. We were treated like it was no big deal about the urine and charged full emergency charges for this service and no apology for condaminating us with someone else's germs. She doesn't seem to care to followup or check to see how it's going with the treatment she has prescribed. The service thus far has been us to be proactive with our care so we don't fall thru the cracks in the system read more
