I come here for gifts maybe twice a year, and I wish I could be here more often. Mulberry and Lime (M-L) is a great store in an historic family home on Limestone Street in downtown Lexington. What I like about the store is both the display and the quality of the goods. No mass-produced, made in China disposable crap here. The emphas is on quality linens, writing paper, gifts, and china, and artwork M-L has a wedding registry, carries antiques, and there is a great selection of local art. This is a great place to get a gift for a female friend, a wife, a mother, a daughter, but there is cool stuff for men here, too. The owner is preservation-minded which makes me like her all the more, and the gift wrap is unique. You'll have no problem finding the store next to the Sayre School. There are always textiles hanging from the line in front to signal that M-L is open. This is the kind of store Lexington deserves. If only M-L had a small place to eat or have a drink, I think more people would come to this Lexington gem. I like the Moe's bowtie selections, and now there is some great art from Lexington artist Tuska. The giftwarap is always great. Hats off to this locally owned business.

There are three floors, and while the attempt had been made to be open and airy inside, the result was still dim and cold. The first floor had some shops, including an art gallery and a ladies' accessory shop, but as you went higher, the more empty spaces prevailed. The second floor had a Kentucky gift store (which was pretty lame) and then the rest was devoted to some kind of kid themed activity center or a day care. We didn't even bother with the third floor. People of Lexington - you might want to consider revamping this space in some way if you are going to keep listing it in your tourist pamphlets and brochures. I am glad we didn't make a special trip here because it was pretty disappointing.

I was given a $250 gift certificate each Christmas by a previous employer to MFT. While an…read moreexpiration date was written on one of the certificates, there was NOT one on the other. I called just recently to inquire about my balance and was told that it was over $400, which would have included the certificate with the expiration date and the one without. I just took both physical certificates into the store and not only would they not accept the expired one, which I could kind of understand (even though gift certificates are paid for and should theoretically NEVER expire), they also refused to honor the certificate WITHOUT an expiration date. I was told that they "decided in their last quarterly meeting that they expired now." She also told me that she could not give me the paper certificates back and that she had to keep and shred them. What a nasty way to treat people. Please do not spend your money here!

What a charming, lovely boutique gift store…read more As I walk up to the storefront while being in town for the Keeneland Spring Meet, I know this retail gem is going to be special. The large white ceramic horse and lovely bright flowers strewn across the front door are an instant giveaway to what is inside, not to mention one hell of a welcome to Ada & Lo. I am instantly reminded of the sit com "Designing Women" pretty much instantly. From the owners (what a nice couple!) and the staff and friends in the store, I am instantly made to feel like family through friendly conversation and laughter, suggestions on new product and a non-pressuring ease to walk throughout the store. This store is loaded with cute things to by for self or others....or self....or self. Earrings with big glitz that I can wear them in Vegas. Derby/horse themed housewares and hats. Functional handbags/clutches. KU items. Pet gifts. Childrens items. And not just lots of things to buy for self or others....or self....or self..... the store is large, well lit, well laid out and easy to navigate around. On the day of my visit, I walked out with two pairs of earrings and a small clear round bag with a black/white patterned strap that I am absolutely planning on bringing to Raiders Games in Vegas because it is stadium compliant, not to mention simply darling.
