I use to live in Redding and went to this place a lot. Boy how things have changed from just a few years ago, Wow I wish I could give a negative star but I can't so here is my review. All was well with bowling but the customer service was completely horrible, the girl that works there on sat nights had the worse attitude I've dealt with ever, she had a problem helping us with the game setup on the TV, then she pushes me a says "move" so she can get to the keyboard and then tells me "there you go" with an evil grin when she was done, the bartender lady is horrible too. She just closed I guess, I thought it was earlier than normal, I asked for a glass of water nothing more, no mixed drink and of course like her co worker acted like she her mode of transportation was a broom. She had an attitude so i was more than happy to let her get me that glass of water and gave her a smile while she was doing this. IF you closed, then lock the doors, not let everyone come in and have people still drinking at the counter. Man i wish i knew your names so i could call you out on here. Word of advice if u don't like ur job then quit what's the point of doing if u can't enjoy ur job and treat customers like crap. Then again u work at a bowling alley. read more

I've been going to Shasta Lanes my entire life. It wasn't until a few weeks ago that they really stepped up their customer service. My bowling group arrived thirty minutes before closing. We paid for a full game and by the time they closed, we were only about 2/3's done. Not only were the employees extremely pleasant to deal with, they allowed us to finish the game. Right before we finished the lanes shut down. When we signaled that we were ready to go, we were presented with "Free Game" coupons. This definitely transcends Shasta Lanes' customer service of the past and I wish them well in 2010. read more

If you have to go bowling, this place will do. Make sure to bring cash and some low customer service standards because they don't accept debit or credit cards and could care less that the ATM machine is broken. If you bring a child, stay away from lane 20 because the automatic bumpers stick and you'll have to pull them up each time. Stay in the bar and you MIGHT have a good time. One saving grace...the owner did give me some free passes for an auction we had. read more

Took the grandkids this morning for a game of bowling. When it came time to pay I was informed they don't take debit or credit cards however they had an ATM machine right there. Guess what, it cost $2.50 to process your card and guess what again they own the machine. Talk about a rip off. Other than that it was reasonably clean and friendly. However I probably will not go there again for that reason I just mentioned There is another bowling establishment in town country Bowl. Will try a other bowling alley next time. read more

I went to Shasta Lanes last night to buy a new bowling ball. The night manager Bob was very helpful finding and drilling the right ball for me. He was very friendly and knowledgeable. The girl working the snack bar was cool. I had a very enjoyable experiance and will tell all my friends to go here for some good clean fun. read more

The bowling isn't bad along with drinks but the pro shop could be a little better with being open to drill balls ect but a very fun place to hangout especially during Redding's good ole summer heat read more

My friends and I went to bowl and we all payed to play, half way through the man at the counter completely stopped the game and yelled at us that one of us didn't pay. We obviously all payed or else he wouldn't have given ALL OF US our shoes. He was rude and it was completely ridiculous. Next time I will be taking my friends to Country Bowl :) read more

Pretty nice place to bowl if it is not too crowded. We went there on a Saturday and the equipment worked perfectly so we thought we would also go the next day. It was completely packed the second day and the equipment on many of the lanes malfunctioned. The staff is polite and the lanes themselves are in pretty good condition. read more

Possibly one of the crappiest experiences in town. If you want to see why Redding is a horrible place, then go to Shasta Lanes. If you want to join some sort of white supremacy group, I think they meet there or if not someone probably knows exactly where to find the rally. Seriously though, this place is the total dumps. Definitely don't take your children. If you care for an even remotely accurate bowling score, you need to score it yourself. Wretched customer service and a crowd that looked even more miserable. I have know idea why this place took such a dump. I've heard it used to be way better. Be sure to bring your own disinfectant, I mean seriously look at the guy behind the shoe counter and tell me you actually think he cleaned the shoes to any decent standard. ewww. Sticky floors, disgusting bathrooms and about as rude as can be. AND to top it all off?? way too expensive. Country bowl and the place in Burney are a little better. Skip this one. read more

I don't know much about bowling alleys, but when we were there a couple of weeks ago, I had the best BLT and fries I've had in many years. Worth going there just for the sandwich...good service too. read more

We spend a lot of time bowling, and thoroughly enjoy the Family Atmosphere here. Bob, the Manager, has been so good to my son, giving him great advice and also buying him a new ball so he could go forward in his game. Everyone there is so kind.... we have had All Positive Experiences. I believe it's definitely improved from a few years ago. read more

Went to Shasta Lanes for a work function. The facility and equipment are old and subpar. But aside from those issues, the staff really were the worst part of my experience. Like many Yelpers before me, the customer service I received was disrespectful and downright rude. I approached concessions to order several pitches of Soda for my team and the entire interaction was one sided. I said hello and got nothing back. I asked questions and the woman just looked at me without responding. She shoved the pitchers toward me without one word. I said thank you, she wordlessly walked away. And yes, she speaks English because I overheard her chatting with her boss. Rude beyond comprehension. Worse than you would expect from a group of teenage thugs. I will never be back, nor will my company be back. read more

Don't plan a kid birthday here! What a Birthday letdown for my 7 year old! The Birthday Special was everything BUT Special. The staff was rude and disorganized. It took 25 minutes just to get help setting up bumpers. They ordered the wrong number of pizzas and then had the audacity to expect me to pay for it. There was no accommodations for our group in any way. When one of the kids asked for a plate and fork, the employee told him "you need to go ask the snack bar. I only work the front counter." Not one person went out of their way to make the party special. And as for the Bowling Pin they promised the birthday boy, nope, they failed on that too. Totally NOT the party experience especially for the cost! :( read more

Not a fan of this place. The staff most of the time doesn't seem happy to be here and the thing that makes experiences here horrible is the fact they don't do a good job with their front door. People go and smoke right in the center between the two doors and the smoke goes through the entire building. Seems more like a casino then a bowling alley. We won't be back. read more

This was our first time here and probably our last. The lanes are not well kept up, there is dirt on the lanes. How would I know if there is dirt on the lanes you might ask, well my husband slipped on it twice and had it stuck on his hands trying to stand up. I have read a lot of things about the staff when we first walked in the only thing that was said to us is "How many games", no welcome, hello or anything like that. The employee basically grabbed the money and pointed to the lane. On the way out of the building two of the employees were standing 2 feet from the door smoking and flinging the ashes on the stairs. I don't know if the owner even reads these reviews or cares but it is a shame to let a place go this far. read more

What a fun night! We are from the tri-valley area, staying in town (Redding) this weekend. Arrived at 8pm (Christmas Day) and the place was less than half full. We were greeted by friendly staff, who helped us with shoe sizes, a ramp for the little one, setting the computer. Food was good, came out fast and was very reasonably priced. The place was clean. Pretty much what we'd expected. Drew and I finished a backpack trip in Shasta...18 miles for the day! We decided to bowl a few lines on the way home to SF & to relax (imagine that?). Stopped at Shasta Lanes in Redding. Had a great time! 3 lines and enjoyed the fresh bacon cheese burgers delivered to our lane. Friendly staff. read more

The man behind the counter tall with a bald head was rude to my wife. She asked if she would be able to get a couple lanes in an hour. He curtly said no and turned his back on her. The young man behind the counter said he was sorry and would let her know when they would be avalible. Sat and watched him for hslf an hour he never smiled, not once. I'm really sorry that I have to give a 2 star rating but that one fits the experience the best. I took my family here last night for .75 bowling. I completely understand why it's only .75 now. First off, there was only one attendant working and she was very rude. Then we were informed that they only take cash. I am a small person, wearing kids size shoes, and kid sized hands, and when I requested a smaller ball she said, "those are for kids. You can get your ball over there!" The equipment is very old. Balls kept getting stuck, the bar wouldn't come back up, and/or the last ball wouldn't even register on the computer screen. The call button didn't work either so every time we needed assistance we had to leave the lane and go back up to the desk. A group of people started playing next to us and their lane quit working altogether within 10 min. The place needs some serious revamping and service with a smile would be nice. Food was okay, beer for $3. If I were bored and there was no other bowling alley in town I might go here again but next time I'll try Country Bowl. read more

Several reasons over several years that this place isn't good. The machines are constantly breaking, no matter what lane you use. The bumpers don't work (either don't go up, or don't go down) My expensive bowling balls get chewed up and gashes taken out of them as they get returned via the ball return. Often, the pins don't go down/reset, or aren't reset properly, the scoring jams up and needs to be reset (losing all prior scoring, especially if you have to be moved). The pins jam up the ball returns in the pit and the ball endlessly bounces around until you call someone. I don't know if I've ever played a single game over years there (not much choices, considering it's between this place and Country Bowl) and I don't think I've not ever had something screw up in a single 12-frame game. Often, you sit there a long time waiting for something to be fixed, reset before you can continue the game. One night, I was there with my girlfriend and her 6 year-old son and there was such a huge amount of pot smoke coming from their employee(s) in the pits that it was coming up through the ball returns and filling the entire front south side of the lanes with pot smoke. We left and told them why. So trashy! One night we went there, when they claim to be 365 days a year at around 8 or 9 PM and this employee seemed irritated that people were showing up and said they were closing. No notice at all. He said that there weren't enough people, so they were closing down so they could leave to go home and watch the Super Bowl. Ruined our night, since we didn't watch football and wanted to bowl. I'd estimate there were 20 people there and more trying to come in and pulling into the parking lot, but it wasn't enough people to stay open, apparently. The prices are high at any bowling center, where that $4.50 per game each adds up to a hefty amount if you have several people, and within minutes it's nearly $50 for 10-15 minutes for a set of 4 or 5 people, unless you spend your time visiting and relaxing and generally taking your time. So, you try the "Rock and Bowl" nights at $15/ea. to bowl from 9PM to midnight (they usually don't have the leagues done to make room until 9:30PM and if you don't have at least 4 or 8 people, depending on the night and room, they make you wait until 10PM to start. Considering the machines constantly jam up and fail, the sweepers lock up, pins aren't reset right (a lot of times not at all), and the lanes randomly shutting down, you can maybe bowl 3-5 games for that $15/ea, which isn't bad, but I've had nights where things broke so much and it took them so long to repair, that we bowled 2 games for $15/ea. No apologies, no credit, nothing. It would be different if this wasn't a constant problem with their establishment, but it's just not worth it. The staff don't know how to run the machines to keep them working often enough, and it's been that way for years. In fact, back in 2010 or 2012, they got a government grant awarded to them for $2.5 million that was supposed to be used to update and resolve some of the issues (or so I assumed), but nothing has changed over those years. Maybe it didn't happen, but it looks like they got the money and didn't use it to resolve these issues. Their staff are often dismissive and rude, and are clearly not qualified to run the place, unless the owner is just cheap and forces them to use systems that are out of date and prone to be problematic. However, between the pot smoke filling up the area, closing down at random times because it's convenient for staff (with no prior notice, until you get in the door), machines breaking all of the time to the point that you can't enjoy a game, waiting, waiting, waiting and being ignored, etc. is extremely off-putting. I'd not complain if this was not typical for them, or if it didn't end up costing so much money for so little return on enjoyment (due to machines breaking and staff), but this place is honestly ghetto. Yes, I may still go there, but only because there aren't a lot of choices, so I bounce between Shasta Lanes and Country Bowl, but I rarely go to either any longer, and I seem to always regret doing it once it's done, when I consider the overall price and constant problems, and then I don't go for another several months to a year (or more), and this is coming from a guy that would bowl nearly daily to get my bowling "fix". By the way, Country Bowl doesn't have the mechanical problems (it's like night and day), but they rarely have price deals where it makes it affordable (paying nearly $5/game when you can rip through a game in a few minutes adds up quick!), and their staff are severely rude at Country Bowl. The one in Anderson is now shut down, I hear, but that place was gross, so no loss there. Lariat Bowl in Red Bluff isn't much better and is kind of far anyway. read more
