This review is from a little while ago but it's a story I share with everyone who asks me what to do in Burney or how the bowling alley is. I figured it may as well share my experience now since I am reminded of it every time I drive by this place. My girlfriends and I were harassed by a league bowler while eating, we tried to be polite until he started commenting on our body's. We tried to (again politely) tell him we were trying to eat and didn't want to chat at which point he stayed "I knew y'all were gonna be a bunch of bitches" before finally leaving us alone. After we finished eating we went into the bar for a drink and to avoid another situation from the same man and were met with a new one. We chatted briefly with 2 guys, one then offered to buy us a shot. The guys friends started interrogating us making sure his friend wasn't "getting taken advantage of". We then said 'ya know what, no problem, no thanks' and continued to be harassed and argued with by them same guy while waiting for the drinks we already ordered. The bartender who was serving us was watching and saw what was happening and when she served us our drink instead of helping said "just so you guys know, these are really good guys". We left. I haven't been back and won't come back without my husband or a male friend to avoid unwanted attention from the regulars. Honestly I still probably won't come back. I'm on a lot of Burney pages and everyone is always talking about how to save the town and how to make the town thrive... maybe make it welcoming and safe for the people who want to participate in community and spend there money there. I know the business is responsible for the behavior of the people who patronize their place but when even the bartender won't have our backs women to women there's a huge problem. It makes me so sad this is the only place in town you can really go and hang out or socialize. Hopefully something new and more welcoming will come along. 2 stars only for the cook, he was the genuinely nicest person we encountered and made good food. read more

Had a great time here Saturday.small location bit a friendly one. . This spot has a lil then to order from as well as a bar area. Small crew that works in what ever area of the location that they are needed. Had great music while we were bowling as well. 10 lane spot with cool Velcro bowling shoes. Was so convenient being not to far from next to where we were staying during our visit. read more

Burney Bowl was amazing! My wife and I decided to stop in on our way through town and we had the place to ourselves! The guy working was super nice and helpful, got us our shoes right away, set up our lane before we even got our balls, and didn't charge us until the end of our time there. Beer was cold and yummy and everything was perfect with the lanes. Would highly recommend! read more

A step back in time. Wood panels, shag carpet, musty smell and all. I see reviews on here disparaging their customer service, mostly from out-of-towners like myself. If you need the "hon/sugar" thing to appease your ego, this might not be your spot. If you need a stiff drink, no-nonsense and a nostalgic reminder of simpler times, you'll be beyond impressed. read more

The only reason I gave it two stars is because I used to really love this place, I still love the cook and the food! The cooks are always so pleasant, but I keep running into the same rude attitudes from the staff (not in the kitchen) it's just unpleasant, it's as if you're breaking their arm just to ask any question. Very disappointing, I really really love this place... but I don't think I'll go back for a long time after the rude/off putting personalities I run into. read more

Three dollars to bowl and free karaoke on Friday night!

Well, the price has gone up to 3.75 per person, per game, which is steep in my book. I used to 75 cent games at Fireside, but where else are you going to go in Burney on a Friday night? 10 lanes of pure retro bowling goodness hanging out with some really welcoming locals. read more

The cook informed me that, "What's your favorite thing to eat here?", was a "dumb question"... He said he has worked here for 5 years, so he didn't have a favorite. There you go. The place is unkempt, but not in a beloved dive sorta way. There's a thin coating of apathy and low expectations on everything. The best part of my experience was leaving. read more

My two young grandsons we're there with us for a birthday party. They were paid for. The lady with short blonde hair yelled at the one Grandson for not knowing his shoe size. I was taken aback and whispered "what the...?" She told me he KNEW his size and was just trying to appease him, but her patience had run out. We had only been there for 2 minutes. After they got their shoes they went to the bowling area. We heard a loud booming screaming voice of the same lady. Every adult in the bowling alley cringed. My grandson had put his foot over the line of the alley. He curled up in a ball and hid from her under a chair. I went over and told her, "My Grandson has PTSD and if you have an issue with him from now in, you can talk to me, and I will take care of it. She argued her right to yell at my child. I calmly informed her again, "Do not confront my child again, if you have an issue, you come to me and I will handle the situation." She was still arguing as I walked away. Later she yelled at him for trying to play a video game. She sat with her arms crossed and glared at my child the entire 4 hours we were there spending money in her establishment. She gave us the cold shoulder when we stood in line for food, never did get around to taking our order. Even after knowing he had PTSD at age 8, she couldn't stop herself from being hateful towards him. He never bowled, he was too frightened, I had to sit with him under the chair and coax him out, so that was money lost. He never caused any trouble, he is a soft spoken and sweet child. He didn't deserve her anger. He kept a very close eye on her as if she were going to attack him from behind. I had the same feeling that she might. My grandchildren had just come home from a horrific foster home situation. They have the PTSD of a soldier from war. This is Shasta County, it happens a lot here, and people should be more sensitive to the subject. It was a slightly frightening experience for us. She walked by and "Humphed," with her nose in the air several times to let us know she was not impressed with my protecting my child. I will never, ever recommend that anyone go there. read more
