She has been the internal medicine physician for both me and my family members for the past five years, and she is simply exceptional. Dr. Lee-Guzman is very smart, incredibly kind, and possesses a truly genuine approach to patient care. She is amazingly knowledgeable in her field and consistently walks into every appointment always prepared and fully informed of our past health record. We never have to re-explain our history. What truly sets her apart is her commitment: she is always willing to help and clearly has the best interest of the patient in mind as the first priority. That is why, even after moving away from Davis a few months ago, I haven't changed my doctor and still make the one-way trip of over an hour to her office. I brought my infant son to the Emergency Department after being referred from Urgent Care, and…read moreunfortunately our first interaction left a very negative impression. The RN at the reception desk, Diana S., did not provide the level of professionalism or courtesy I expected. The Urgent Care staff gave me a referral paper with my son's information and instructed me to hand it to the Emergency Department staff. When I handed the paper to her, she did not look at it and instead began asking me questions about my own medical history, including my allergies. My infant son was right next to me in his stroller, and I had to interrupt to explain that he--not I--was the patient. Had the referral paper been reviewed, it would have been clear that I was the mother and my infant son was the patient. The most upsetting moment was when a gust of wind blew the referral paper onto her side of the desk. She picked it up, crumpled it into a ball, and threw it into the trash without saying a word. Since Urgent Care had specifically instructed me to hand that paper to the Emergency Department, seeing it immediately discarded without any explanation was shocking. As a mother bringing my infant to the ER, I was already scared and worried. This interaction made me feel deeply disrespected. Patients and their families deserve to be treated with basic courtesy, especially when they are seeking emergency care for a sick child.

She is a fine person, but I am so disappointed in her failure to refer me to an adequate specialist. I have suffered with endocrine related issues for years that have wreaked havoc on my life in so many ways. Two years ago I begged for her to write me a referral to endocrinology, and I even had a letter from a separate medical doctor who was advocating on my behalf. She said that endocrinology couldn't help me and I was devestated. Well, now it's two years later and I have gotten a lot worse. I have new symptoms too, which drove me back to the doctor (a different PCP - not Dr Freeman) who actually ran some tests on me and found some issues related to my thyroid and sent me an urgent referral to endocrinology. I'm hoping I can get my issues sorted out soon, but I've already lost so much. I've continued to deteriorate, which has cost me -- financially, physically, and emotionally. It has damaged my reputation at work and my relationships with friends - I'm now seen as the flakey person who is unreliable because of my health. I've spent so much money on treatments that haven't worked, and have tried over the counter supplements, out-of-network doctors, ANYTHING to try to get relief, to no avail. I've also had to take so many days off work that it has maxed out my PTO, so I have to go without pay if I need to take anytime off for additional sickness or appointments. And I am still sick -- suffering different symptoms every day, and waking up in the middle of the night because of them. I've had a lot of dark thoughts and feel hopeless. I'm disappointed that Dr. Freeman couldn't refer me two years ago and I think my life would be different right now if she had done so. I hope that this experience will change her attitude going forward. Not every patient is lying about their symptoms or faking it.
