I'm a graduate of Northwestern University and was distraught over my outcomes with other psychiatrists. I felt like I didn't suffer through that school to be on disability. Susan is a breath of fresh air. While she isn't in-network with any insurance company, her prices are reasonable (she's worth every penny), and she will work with your insurance on things like getting your prescriptions covered, provide you with documentation if you have out-of-network coverage, and fill out any sort of job-related paperwork that may be needed. I think it's saying something that she keeps her patient population functioning so well that they can continue to see her, even in the rough times. Unlike so many other psychiatrists, to the best of my knowledge Susan doesn't have patients in long-term care facilities, nursing homes, or regularly in an inpatient setting. We're all contributing members of society and she keeps us that way. As psych patients, I believe that's the most we can ask for: to be indistinguishable from people without mental illness. A formal complaint has been filed with the state regulatory board. I was a patient of Dr. Mills for over 6 years. During my last appointment, he felt it was appropriate to share his personal feelings on DEI and expressed that he is pleased with the way that things are shifting away from DEI to being "merit-based" because DEI was discriminatory to white men and people who are not LGBT+. As a woman who identifies as part of the LGBT+ community, I became very uncomfortable, told him that this was an inappropriate subject, and stated that I would be seeking a new provider to continue my treatment. He reacted appalled, and couldn't understand why I would be offended. I moved on and tried to go back to the purpose of the call: to assess my treatment and medication (am I eating, am I sleeping, etc). At the end of the appointment, I declined to schedule a follow up and immediately found a new provider. Three weeks later, I received an email from Dr. Mills with the subject line "termination". He attempted to terminate a relationship that was already terminated, acting as if I owed him an apology for standing my ground and expressing my discomfort while calling me "reactive and illogical". This rhetoric from a certified psychiatrist is not only inappropriate, it is abusive and damaging to patients who are seeking help. He is unable to manage his own emotions when a patient expresses discomfort on a subject and should not be trusted with providing support to anyone who needs mental health support/treatment. Avoid at all costs. Email text is as follows: Good morning Amy After thinking about our last conversation on 9/24, I have decided it is in my best interest to terminate our working relationship. I did absolutely NOTHING wrong by explaining that some folks are pleased with the shift away from DEI to a merit-based system. That is not even an opinion...it is REALITY. Your stated intention to fire me for saying something that is entirely FACTUAL was out of line and disrespectful to me and our working relationship over the past 6 years and I am not able to work with someone who would be this reactive and illogical in their behavior towards me. Don't go here. Just don't…read more I needed a doctor and thought this location was too convenient to pass up. This isn't a normal doctor's office. From the looks of it, I think it was a free clinic. It's dirty and crowded. I was so creeped out sitting there. However, the doctor charged me a lot. So... not free. The doctor was training a student or something. Before the doctor came in, I had to explain all my symptoms to the student. Then when the doctor finally came in, the student explained all of my symptoms to her, which I could have just done myself. It was embarrassing to say the least, hearing everything I had just said repeated back. The receptionists are not at all friendly and don't seem to understand questions. I even tried calling there after to find out if I was ever going to get a bill. They had no idea. It was like pulling teeth getting an answer. When I finally got a hold of the doctor, (who apparently works in several different offices, and therefore has several different phone numbers, all of which she doesn't answer) she told me to wait for the bill. I finally got the bill, sent my check, and it still hasn't been deposited. It's been a couple months. Avoid this place like the plague... even if you have the plague.

It was not stated anywhere on paperwork or website that the patent needs to fill out the paperwork a certain number of days before appointment-in fact, in some instances it states that paperwork can be brought in at the first appointment. The client explained that they were unaware and would fill it out immediately-but were told it was too late. The client asked to speak to the manager who was terrible rude and condescending and just kept explaining the (undocumented) policy-THe client was very upset and kept asking what she could do to make this right. She explained that she had just moved from out of state and things were very chaotic and she needed to get in so she could have her medication managed (for depression) as she was about to run out. THey told her that since she did not care about their policies she was not only being cancelled but she was not welcome back to see any of their providers. The client plans to file a complaint with the the ethics board of the APA. THis is incredibly unprofessional behavior by clinically uneducated individuals who are acting on the behalf of medical professionals who have ethical standards they are required to uphold. These actions put the entire practice at risk of malpractice. Never in my 30 years in the field have my clients experienced this type of treatment.

This place had a cooperate and uncomfortable feel to it. The clinicians and psychiatrists were "nice" I am not so sure they had my best interest in mind. Maybe I was just going to the wrong people, but that is the feeling I got. I will leave out names because I don't want to point fingers, but as a client, I wish I had read a review like this prior to going because I probably would have gone somewhere else, and much smaller. The psychiatrist... I saw her for about 2 months. She listened to my problems but was so quick to put me on medication. I personally do not like that, especially when I am totally apprehensive to take medication to begin with (which I told her). I ended having terrible side effects from the medication. Cymbalta - I was put on this medication for anxiety and depression. This made my heart rate go crazy, I had zero appetite, I felt like I had no personality whatsoever, and I would go from complete highs to complete lows. It was not good. When I addressed them with her, she simply took my BP while in the office, said I was fine, and said to continue with the medication. She then told me if it was that bad, just stop taking it because I had not been on the medication that long so it should not have any side effects coming off of it. Well she was wrong. I stopped cold turkey and I literally became suicidal. In addition to that, I would be in the middle of talking to someone and would completely forget where I was, what I was talking about, and in a couple situations who I was talking to. It was very scary! When that happened I went back on the medication and then did my own research. Come to find out, this medication CANNOT be stopped cold turkey! You literally have to open up the pill and take one bead out each day until you get down to the last bead. (It took almost 3 months to whine myself off!) So if you're Dr ever prescribes Cymbalta to you, make sure you really need it. And if you do, make sure you are fully aware of the side effects, and that your Dr will listen and address any concerns you have. After this experience I did not return to her. The therapist... She was alright. We did talk, a lot. But the first 15 minutes of session she would spend that time "shooting the shit" and often times she would talk about things pertaining to herself. I am sorry, but when I am paying $75 a co-pay, I am not coming to socialize. If that's the case, then the session should go 15 overtime to account for the 15 minutes of BS. I think if she avoided this, I may have had a better experience. But unfortunately because of this, I always ended up leaving more annoyed than helped. After about 2 months I stopped going to her as well. So to sum it up.... Depending on your needs, do your research. Read reviews. Go to someone who has RAVING reviews. I personally just did not like the practice and as I mentioned, I just felt like a number. I hope if you do go here, you get a much better experience than myself! Part of being a counselor is to make the client feel like you empathize with their problems, and I did not get this feeling here!

I was able to connect with the clinic directly by phone and they were able to schedule an appointment with the doctor I wanted to work with, but it would be a telehealth visit. That was fine with me as I live an hour away from the clinic. I will have to have 1 in-person visit per year, so that's do-able. The doctor was very patient, kind, listened to my questions and concerns, and for the first time, I actually felt heard by a psychiatrist. I'm glad I found this practice and I'm looking forward to getting back to feeling better.
