Dr. Bank has been my doctor for many years. She is the BEST! Thanks to her I have been able to manage my Tourette's and my depression. These together are very hard to treat and I have been to many doctors who tried everything they knew but to no avail, in fact at times either one of the conditions was exacerbated. There have been a few times when I was in foreign countries and needed some immediate help and she has always been available, even one time when she was on vacation. I know that she is well regarded in the medical and is very well educated about new protocols . She has also significantly helped me accept my daughter's heroin related death. I always feel comfortable in the reception and office area. The receptionist has always been warm and professional. She has been DILIGENT about sending me phone reminders about appointments. I have recommended Dr. Bank to several people, all of whom have been very happy. I don't know what I would do without her. read more

I have been a patient of Dr Bank for over 20 years. I did not trust Psychiatrists initially, but her approach to listening to your problems, and how to best treat them medically and medicinally have been fantastic. I look at how I was when I started seeing her and how they are now is like night and day. Susan and I have been in the trenches together with my mental health over the past ten years. Through her medical wizardry, she has brought me back from the brink of suicide and insanity on multiple occasions. I'm a graduate of Northwestern University and was distraught over my outcomes with other psychiatrists. I felt like I didn't suffer through that school to be on disability. Susan is a breath of fresh air. While she isn't in-network with any insurance company, her prices are reasonable (she's worth every penny), and she will work with your insurance on things like getting your prescriptions covered, provide you with documentation if you have out-of-network coverage, and fill out any sort of job-related paperwork that may be needed. I think it's saying something that she keeps her patient population functioning so well that they can continue to see her, even in the rough times. Unlike so many other psychiatrists, to the best of my knowledge Susan doesn't have patients in long-term care facilities, nursing homes, or regularly in an inpatient setting. We're all contributing members of society and she keeps us that way. As psych patients, I believe that's the most we can ask for: to be indistinguishable from people without mental illness. Susan ensures just that. If there's one thing you should spend a little extra on, it's your health. Take my word for it. Make your mental health a priority with Susan Bank. This is not a review of Dr.Susan Bank because we never were able to meet her. The one star is because I called this office and left messages three times to set up an initial appointment for my 18 year old daughter. Dr. Banks sounded like a very good fit and my daughter was very willing to invest the time and money to find a doctor that could really help her. I received no call back. On my fourth try, a receptionist answered and quite rudely informed me that Dr. Banks does not see teenagers. I understood from her website that she only sees adult patients, but in almost every other facet of life an 18-year-old IS considered an adult. Dr. Banks apparently does not consider a patient an adult unless they are 21 years old. I wasted three weeks trying to reach someone at that office. I think that the website should clearly say that Dr. Banks only considers patients 21 years old and up to be adult. I also feel that someone should have called me back after my first phone call and let me know what the office policy actually is. 18-year-olds can get married, serve in the Armed Forces, vote, open bank accounts, be tried as an adult for crimes, and rent an apartment. In fact, the only time that I know of that an 18-year-old is not considered an adult in the United States is when you are going to purchase alcohol. So the one star is for being uncommunicative, having an unclear website, and being fairly rude on the phone when I finally reached someone, this office can do better. read more

I started seeing Dr. Bank several years ago and at the time was shocked that I could get in to see her within a week (for most psychiatrists you need to wait 30 or more days to get in). Though I don't see her as often anymore, when I need to, I can get an appointment almost immediately, or a phone appointment if I am at my other home, out of state. Dr. Bank is a great listener and understands the mindset of urban dwellers. It's great to be able to see a psychiatrist and talk about day-to-day issues without just being given pills and shooed off. Her staff is very professional and quick to get refill requests to the proper pharmacies. Though Dr. Bank does not accept insurance anymore, her charge is not so astronomical that it becomes cost prohibitive to see her. Good luck finding a decent psychiatrist that accepts insurance these days anyway. read more

I started seeing Dr. Bank a few months ago due to some anxiety issues I'd been experiencing. She is very understanding, non-judgemental, and a great listener. She has helped me more in the past few months than any therapist or doctor ever has. I also have ADD, which wasn't my initial reason for seeing her, but she helped me by recommending a different treatment plan than the one I'd been on for a couple years, which was becoming ineffective. Her changes have completely altered my ability to be productive. After seeing other psychiatrists over the years, I have finally found someone who actually listens and understands how medications work. And she uses her knowledge to personalize a treatment plan, instead of just putting you on a bunch of different medications to counteract side effects of other medications which weren't right for you in the first place. She is responsive, easy to reach, and helpful. I'd highly recommend her, as she has honestly helped me improve my quality of life. And that is worth more than 5 stars. read more

Don't waste your time. It is nearly impossible to get an appointment. Starting 3 years ago, I tried getting an appointment for my married daughter. I was told that she wasn't taking any new patients at the time. I asked if she (the receptionist) could call me when an opening became available. She agreed, took my phone number. About 6 months later, I called again got answering machine and no return call. A week later called again and again no returned call. All the while my daughter wasn't making any progress with another therapist, so about a year later called again, left a message, and you guessed right. No return call. I chalked this up to an uncaring receptionist which I figured a couple of years later would have been fired. So I called again, left a message to call, but no return call. I kept calling thinking I might get the receptionist to actually answer the call. No such luck. She may be a good psychiatrist, but don't delude yourself into thinking you're going to get an appointment unless hell freezes over. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Bank for several years and I have also recommended her to many people. She is the only Dr. I have felt comfortable, secure and confident in to help me through many situations in my life. She cares about you and gives all of herself at every appointment you have with her. She truly does make you feel you could tell her anything without being judged. She makes you feel so much better about yourself that you know you are not alone. She is available to you at anytime you need her. She will also give you some wonderful holistic ideas on how to improve your mental and physical health, which we all know goes hand in hand. Dr. Bank is great! She knows her stuff and is spot on at analyzing and assessing medical conditions. One of the things I really like about her is she's very up to date on medical conditions and treatment plans so I know she knows what she's talking about. I have been in treatment with Dr. Bank since 2003. She helped me through very, very personal issues that I wouldn't discuss with anyone and has been an avid supporter and gives guidance on natural methods of therapy. Dr. Bank is amazing. Natalie and Bruce are kind and work with my needs. I moved 1600 miles away to Colorado in March of 2010 and I can't replace Dr. Bank. She and I have sessions over the phone every three months and she is still my #1 medical professional supporter for my depression and anxiety. I am grateful that Dr. Bank agreed to continue our treatment, though miles apart, as courteously and vividly as if I was sitting in her comfortable slip-covered chairs of her office. Dr. Bank is one reason I am still in this world today. I owe my life to my therapist that recommended her and to Dr. Bank. She will listen and help you. After several failed visits to doctors within my insurance group, I felt defeated that I was unable to find one I was comfortable with. After reading the wonderful reviews of Dr. Bank I decided to take the financial risk and am very pleased that I did. Being treated by Dr. Bank has been the single-most profound experience of my life. I would give no stars if I could. I called to schedule an appointment and the man I spoke with told me that Ms banks does not accept any insurance and when I questioned why his exact words were "because they rip her off" and then started lecturing to me about insurance premiums. The initial consult would be $275 then $140 per session but a 1 hour session with be more. Are you kidding me!? I have seen various psychiatrists over the last 10 years and trust me they don't deserve $140 for those few minutes of work they do do in which you simple end up with leaving with a prescription. With that said I may have paid out of pocket to see her as she claims to have a holistic approach and I was looking for an open minded psychiatrist, but not after my initial call. FORGET IT! I recommend she gets rid of the rude and overly opinionated man answering her phone. read more

Susan took the time out of her day to speak to me about concerns I was having with a family member. She was extremely helpful and very generous with her time. The most hostile environment was established on the phone and in person with the receptionist. She made a mistake with our appointment time and then proceeded to accuse me and be completely condescending. She was extremely inappropriate and unprofessional both on the phone and in person. I love Dr. Bank, I've seen her off and on for maybe eight years. She has really helped me out with quite a few things and I feel as though I can tell her anything.
