Popp Memorial Park is less a lush green park; it's more for gatherings, picnic-type events, grilling, throwing a baseball, rafting, swimming (I think it's allowed), smoking or just sitting in a lawn chair to get totally drunk.. your choice. The sites, being first-come, first-served, we open enough and many offered just the right amount of privacy. I can see where a busy weekend might alter people's views of this, but mid week July? Perfect. The restrooms / showers were clean. The sites were also very clean. I believe the staff comes by everyday and cleans the fire pits from the sites that are empty. A great local gem. And yes, o wil be back.

This is a great short hike about 45 mins per the park ranger but without stopping you probably can finish around 30-40 minutes just strolling. You can climb up the hill for a better view though the climb down is a bit steep and rocky, not recommended for toddlers. There is also a beach that is full of tree trunks for a nice break. Go breathe the fresh air and get away from the city.

Split by Route 9D, it offers two distinct experiences: on one side, a Hudson River beach where people swim and relax; on the other, a hiking trail that winds through the intriguing ruins of an old estate. Infested. Algonquin Park itself has a bunch of nice trails and it's so peaceful out there when the wind is blowing and you have a slice of pizza and some drinks from the place across the street. It's very family friendly and well kept. Don't remember any Canadian geese being out there actually, which was quite a surprise. Happy that the parks department for the town Newburgh takes care of this place.

The water levels for the stream apparently can vary quiet a bit, as we've seen them swell up to a river early spring versus the typical babbling brook. I hope efforts continue to maintain and preserve this natural space for all to enjoy.
