Beautiful park only few min drive away from Nyc. There is a dam, waterfall, picnic areas & trail for hiking. For somebody who loves water, this place is a must visit. The sound of the gushing waterfall & dam is so therapeutic. I can just look at it for hours. Parking is 10 bucks on the warmer months. There are also porta potties available. Croton Gorge Park is a beautiful park for everyone to enjoy on a nice day! It's a bit tricky to find since you are navigated to go through a bunch of back roads after you get off the thruway, but with GPS, you'll get there eventually. There was a booth to pay for parking, but no one was in it when I went, so I'm not too sure if parking costs money (maybe it depends on the day- I went on a Wednesday for reference). There's alot of parking spaces, as well as room to set up your picnic table/chairs/etc. In addition, they do have their own tables for the public to use. However, the park itself is small, so it may get crowded depending on when you go. The scenic view of the dam with the cascading waterfall is breathtaking, it's not something you see everyday, especially in Westchester. That said, if you're ever in the area, this is a great place to stop for a wonderful Kodak moment. read more

Great park for a picnic, hikes, or just to sit back and take in the scenery to relax.

The experience was ok. The view of the waterfall was beautiful, and we got some great pictures, but people drove too fast at the entrance, so I had to pick my dog up so he wouldn't get hit since he's too small for drivers to see. (He was on a leash, but still.) The person who was in charge of collecting entry fees wasn't the friendliest and didn't have a lot of patience for us as we were coming in. We were on the fence about paying the fee because we knew we weren't going to be there for long but we wanted to support the parks department. The guy might as well have rolled his eyes at us. I had a good time overall but I enjoyed going on the bridge above a lot more, and it was free. The water from this waterfall does ultimately end up in our sinks, toilets, and bathtubs/showers after the decontamination process. They should do informational tours. That would be really cool. read more

This place is beautiful and the drive to the location is very therapeutic. Driving on a small bridge passing the waterfall is breathtaking. We parked and brought our dogs so yes this location is very dog friendly they just ask to pick up after them. They provide some benches with tables at the location but if you do not come early don't think they will be available. read more

The park itself isn't huge but it's beautiful with a nice big fountain and waterfall as it's main wow factor. It's $10/vehicle to enter no matter how long you stay. They have a small parking area and porta potties if you plan to stay for a while. I've seen several groups of people setting up for picnics each time I've been here. Overall it seems like a nice place to hang out for a few hours! read more

Definitely a beautiful park with beautiful waterfalls. The views where perfect . I was expecting more of a hike when I got here but it was only about half a mile path up to the bridge to see the view which yes was totally worth it. There wasn't much signage of what path was what and which way to go and where some trails lead too. So my only negative comment would be for them to put up signage of how many miles the few trails that they had were. You did have to pay $10 for parking. Which I definitely feel like $10 is a lot to pay for a small little park with very limited trails. They do have porta potties , picnic tables , additional but limited parking and a playground for the kids . read more

Beautiful park with one amazing spectacle being the dam and the falls. There is an admission fee and I don't recall what it was, either $5 or $10 (we drive a suv). There is a parking lot, a building with restrooms, along with the portable restrooms. There are areas for picnicking, and there were several family doing so. This park pops up on AllTrails for hiking however this is not a hike, it's more of a casual stroll across the dam and the falls which is beautiful. The total distance is less than two miles and there were small children walking as well. Dogs are permitted on a leash, we saw them as well. There is a warning sign regarding no swimming / water treatment however there were several families allowing their children in the water. Grounds were kept clean and we saw a few employees checking the grounds as well. read more

To old Croton residents who's families have been here before the Croton Dam was completed we call it the 8th wonder of the ancient world and it is also known as the 2 nd tallest man made structure in the world. Only the pyramids of Egypt surpass this awesome example of construction pre machine. The park is beautiful especially since the fountain has been fixed after about 40 years! This is also a go to spot in winter for sleigh riding. A time honored tradition for Croton kids. Come see the 8th wonder of the world and afterwards stop by the village for a nice meal at any of our cozy restaurants. read more

This park has easy hiking trails with a beautiful scenery. There is a grassy area to have picnics with friends and family next to the waterfall. You can easily maintain social distance with other people, just don't forget to bring a picnic blanket or something to sit on! It is about an hour and a half drive from the city, but it was well worth it for a change of scenery and a breath of fresh air. read more

Can't say anything negative about this park! Parking free, bathrooms were bleached and clean, and we didn't see ONE piece of litter laying around. This is how it's supposed to be. Only ONE word of caution ---- patrons have large dogs OFF LEASHING opposed to what the sign says. I can see myself having a confrontation if I were to bring my smaller sized dog. NOBODY walks around to assure the postings are adhered to. The falls are simply picturesque -- felt like on vacation. A place to at least spend half your day! read more

This park is fairly small, but it has a big draw - a gorgeous spillway for the New Croton Dam, which gives it a pretty series of waterfalls! Even in the winter, this place gets really busy, especially if the weather is sunny - in the winter, the look of the spillway with icicles is just as pretty as it is in the summer. There's a few parking lots here, and some places to have a picnic, and some portapotty bathrooms. There's a trail that leads up to the OCATT an up to the top of the dam, which is definitely worth hiking up. read more

After reading some reviews on social media and being so close to Earth Day (April 22), my partner and I wanted to get out and enjoy this beautiful Saturday at this park only 45 mins from NYC. Croton Gorge Park is a 97-acre at the base of the Croton Dam with an impressive views of the dam and spillway. Completed in 1907, the dam stands over 200 feet high. We were not disappointed at all. It was an easy drive and a beautiful place to explore. Just a note if you are driving north towards the park it can be very easy to miss the first park entrance. There is no signage from the road and you can speed right on by like we did. Luckily the second park entrance takes you to the parking lot by the river. The aqueduct is beautiful to see from above and below, but the view from the top of bridge is pretty ah-mazing. The trails are beautiful and provide lots of places to explore. There were quite a few visitors here some enjoying a nice BBQ /picnic while others hiking but everyone was courteous and shared the space well. But what we love the most is just relaxing in a most perfect spot and highly recommend it. read more

So, looking for a way to kill some time on a Sunday afternoon, I came across this place. I won't bore you with the story about finding the train station into the city, thinking I was near this place (I was about 30 minutes away - lesson, just look at a map a little closer). As you get close there is a road that has a ton of parking and indicates 'bridge closed'. I'm going out on a limb and guessing that this is the top side of the dam that you can walk across. Keep going about another mile and you will be at the park entrance. Nice, and not overly hot, there were a ton of people playing frisbee, having BBQ's and just hanging out for the afternoon. Of course the highlight is the spectacular views of the waterfalls that are created by the dam. Tons of photo opps from the bridge that spans the river. People were lining the bridge getting waterfall selfies and posing for family pictures. Would like to return here when the winter temps are at the coolest to see the ice cycles that form, according to some of the other reviews. If you have some time to kill and want to do some exploring, this place would be an awesome choice. read more

This is a very nice state park. Admission fee is between $5-10. The park has portable bathroom, picnic area, small play ground, and walk way to see bridge on top of the dam. There is a path near the playground to walk upwards to the bridge, it's about 10 minutes walk. I spent 1.5-2 hours in this park during lunch, and I see many families with young kids here. read more

beautiful place! should arrive early in the morning if going on a weekend. When we were leaving around 12 noon, the parking lot was full and there was a line of 10+ cars waiting for a spot and to get in. The dam/wall itself was impressive just to stand next to as the magnitude of its size takes your breath away. If you take the aquatic trail, its only 1.5 mile or so to the top of the dam and back to the parking lot. There's also a small path right off the side of the wall if you want to make it even shorter. read more

We pass over the Croton Reservoir Bridge whenever we drive up to the Berkshires, and it is so pretty I wanted to explore the area so we drove up to Croton Gorge Park. We walked across the dam and were mesmerized by the waterfall and the lovely autumn leaves. We followed google maps which led us through some very narrow streets to the eastern side of a closed bridge where we parked along the side of the road and were able to walk across the bridge. I would worry that in normal (non-covid) times it may be too crowded to park along that road. We hiked along paths on the old croton aqueduct path. It was absolutely lovely. The path goes on for many miles, apparently all the way down to Yonkers and the Bronx. read more

Direction tips: If you set the GPS to "Croton Gorge Park," you'll end up on the NY-129 coming from either North or South, depending on which path it takes. If you drive in directly into the park (there's a single porta potty and welcome booth) that leads through a small bridge structure into the park's official parking lot. Parking was free for us though some reviewers mentioned fees during warmer months. Parking here would allow for direct access to a large field with picnic tables and a great view of the Croton Dam. To hike to the bridge that overlooks Croton Dam and the reservoir, either hike about 20-30 minutes starting from the trail behind the playground or drive North on the NY-129 for a minute or two. There will be another path on the right of the road with many cars parked there. This leads to the end of the hike mentioned earlier, where you get to see the bridge over the Dam for great views without the walking). If you want to skip the hike, or start from this end, it seems fair to park here. Park open from dawn to dusk (around 5pm). Unfortunately half of the fall foliage colors are gone by the day we went (Nov 6, 2020). Would recommend coming earlier next year (end of October) for best fall foliage colors. There was another path for hiking available as well but we didn't try it. TL;DR - spacious park with impressive view of Croton Dam picnicking, dog-walking, and biking/hiking the trails are popular. If you want to not have to hike to the top of the bridge, park on the side of the road more North on NY-129. Go by late October for best views of autumn colors. read more

We went here for a group picnic last Sunday. It was cloudy and cold but the weather did not dampen the beauty of this park. The drive towards the park was evenscenic. The waterfall itself is gorgeous. You could stay on the park and picnic...Or go hiking...Or walk all the way up to the dam at the start of the waterfall (spectacular views). Either way, there are many options here to enjoy yourself. Being here, you forget you are in the city. Not that many people know this place exist and how accessible it is from the city (1hr drive from BK on a non traffic day). So the park was not crowded at all. I'm not fully sure if they let you grill but we had a fire going to warm up our hands. We bought bottles of wine, i think they don't allow kegs and hard liquor. They had a park bathroom... not the best but not the worst either, just adequate. read more

Great park that I have visited many times and only about an hour away from the city. There are minimal fees to enter usually from Memorial Day through Labor Day of about $5-10 per vehicle. Most recently I visited during the COVID pandemic. ON a nice Thursday, the main parking lots filled up by about 1 PM, but they allowed people to park on the grass which was great. There are lots of open spaces in the park so there is a lot of room for crowds to gather without having to worry about interfering with each other. There are paths and trails leading down to the river area at the bottom of the waterfall. There are also trails leading in and around the surrounding wooded area. The highlight of the park of course is the waterfall, which is a sight to behold. There isn't anything else like it in the lower New York area. I would highly suggest people from NYC to take the one-hour drive up here to visit it. The views of the waterfall from the park area great, but for some phenomenal views of the waterfall and hudson river from above, I suggest taking the Croton Dam Road path to the closed the closed bridge on top which is now a walkway. Set your navigation to the intersection of Quaker Ridge Road and Croton Dam Road and make the turn onto Croton Dam Road which will lead you to the southeast side of the closed bridge where you can park along the side of the road and take a walk on the bridge. You can also set your navigation to the intersection of Croton Dam Road and Route 129 (Old Yorktown Road) and turn onto Croton Dam Road to the northwest side of the bridge. You can park along the side of the road and walk onto the bridge. read more

This was a great outdoor experience during the pandemic where we were able to enjoy walking a d hiking near the nature while maintaining social distance. There is a park where you can chill play frisbee fly your drones and go for a decent hike on the dam. The view of the water falling from the dam is just mesmerizing. read more

Beautiful water fall! It was our first time visiting this Park and we loved it. The park has a huge lawn for the kids to run around. There is fence nearby the water falls to prevent people falling down there or walking too close by it. We got there by 10:30 in the morning and there were plenty of parking spots, but the park got crowded around noon time. There was a unpaved path to walk up the bridge, but there was no sign where the pave entrance was. We walked up using the narrow path that was nearby the dam, no railing at all. I felt that was dangerous for kids and old people to walk up using that path. I did not see any map in the park, not sure if I should walk further away from the dam to the other side of the parking lot to get information. We also did not see a bathroom in this park. This park is relatively small compared to State Parks, but it should have beautiful views during foliage season. Will consider coming back in Fall. read more
