I was nervous, embarrassed and maybe somewhat doubtful when I walked into Dr. Shawn Keller's office building. BUT...the minute I crossed their threshold I knew I'd entered into a different space. (literally) The receptionist was so friendly and helped put my heart and pride at peace. I was desperate to find a dentist for counsel on missing and rotten teeth. After visiting other offices I saw Dr. Shawn Keller on an Infomercial I believe on Superbowl Sunday.. I called Monday for an appt and was seen within a few days. Finally meeting Dr. Keller gave me hope. He was so honest and so humble as he explained these -out of this world- dental procedures, I could see his creativeness and his passion thru his counsel of possibilities for me to get my smile and confidence back. The number one - most important thing you can do when you decide to have a dental or medical procedure is to choose the best practitioner. Dr Shawn Keller is a rockstar at the top of his profession. For over a year, I researched practitioners in Western Washington. I saw two top docs in Seattle, one in Everett and one in Bellevue. I felt like a number. A couple of them rolled their eyes when I asked questions and another seemed overwhelmed by my case and one actually said "my favorite patients are the ones who hate their smiles because no matter what I do for them it's an improvement." Fifth time's a charm! When I saw Dr Keller for my consultation I was greeted warmly while all Covid protocols were carefully followed. Pictures and a ct scan were taken! It was the most thorough process. Armed with my research and questions I was ready for Dr Keller. As I referred to my list of questions; Dr Keller sat down with me and said "It makes my job much easier when a patient takes the time to research and formulate questions!" He showed me exactly where my needs were as he pointed them out on my scan. He explained each procedure in great detail including photos and videos. He laid out options for me with the number one item being that I had an infection in an old root canal that had failed. He insisted that we take care of that first and that anything else could wait. For the failed root canal he prescribed an implant so we moved forward with that which was nearly pain free. With the use of stem cell therapy it healed unbelievably fast and I had my crown within 8 weeks! I had some old metal fillings and porcelain crowns that had metal underneath them that I wanted to get rid of. All of my dental work had been done many years ago and after decades of clinching I was literally crushing my teeth, cracking them and causing bone loss and TMJ. I knew I needed an improved bite and I was worried about what could be happening under the metal that X-rays can't penetrate. Dr Keller uses all metal free restorations. He explained and showed me that X-rays can actually penetrate the porcelain he uses as though it were enamel so it would be much easier to detect any future issues under a crown. From my consultation through the entire process the team at Smiles by Design were warm, professional, caring and so supportive. All of my questions and concerns were answered with care and backed up by amazing results. They educated me every step of the way. I've neglected my teeth for about 20 yrs too busy being a working father taking care of my kids. I had gotten use to the pain in my mouth but about 3mths ago I just couldn't tolerate it any longer. The pain was excruciating! I googled for dental implants since I had been told I needed them and I was also told I eventually would need a denture. There was no way I was gonna get a denture ! I started dental implants with Shawn Keller. First I will say that the implants themselves were well done, for a very steep price. I opted to use Keller's office because of the "lifetime guarantee" of the implants, thinking that sounded like a good deal and I knew I was paying upfront for that guarantee going in. But when searching for an implant dentist--especially one as high dollar as Keller--you absolutely need the whole package. You need a trusting, respectful relationship where you feel valued and listened to. Which is why I did not finish my treatment there. My concerns were noteworthy. The lifetime guarantee was not worth all of the problems I encountered with this office, and ultimately I did not feel that it's a place I would want to return for any work. The problems? The communication in the office is very lacking. Many times I did not get called back when leaving messages. It seemed that the left hand never knew what the right hand was doing, so even when I did talk to someone, the people who needed the communication did not receive it (even though it was assured my requests or needs would be communicated to the right party). It was very frustrating. This was a promise that was never delivered upon, at least in my case, and caused a lot of doubt about my care. I did not feel respected or valued. I am very intelligent about my health and well researched on my teeth needs, yet when I tried to talk about my care or ask questions, I was met with what felt like disrespect and disregard. Um, no! Not acceptable, ever. I was also way upsold on what I needed. I had read this in some of the reviews, but definitely started to fall for this. I could have purchased a small home for the price they quoted me for the finishing work. I might add, in the line of feeling disrespected, the ridiculously high quote for the work needing to be done in my mouth was not even given to me by the dentist, but by an office assistant! I didn't get the chance to review the plan for my mouth and the exorbitant cost with the people who would be working on my mouth. Again, not acceptable! I ended up going to a reputable clinic in Cancun and getting the work done for 1/10th the price (yep, you read that right) of what Keller's office quoted AND the Cancun clinic had and and has continued to have stellar service, communication, follow up, and makes patients feel very respected and a part of their treatment plan. With the actual dentist. I will say that the staff is friendly and they try to be helpful. The problems are more in the management level. I would never recommend this clinic based on my experiences. You can get the same quality of work done by people who make you feel respected for a fraction of the cost. read more
