My Dentist, Dr Todd Berggren, at Optima Dental Spa in Kirkland is delightful! He didn't even charge me for a minor fix from other dentist! He is so funny and kind. They had me in and out of there so quickly and efficiently. I have never met a dental office that was more friendly than this group! They all really go above and beyond. I was in the process of getting the dentistry's phone and info online and came across some of the 1 star reviews about the receptionists. It's unfortunate that the reviews are being reflected on Dr Richardson's overall performance on Yelp. I have been seeing Dr. R for over a DECADE, probably even longer, and never ever had a problem or issue with his team or him. My teeth cleaning experiences have been superb, efficient and I walk away feeling I did something positive for my chompers. I've had my fillings done, got my mouth guard here and some other type of dental procedure that required drilling and numbing and it all went well. I've had offers from various dentists to come by their office and they will entice me with free whitening or a sonicare toothbrush...but I always choose to stay with Dr. R. They have the latest tools and gadgets and will get you taken care of in no time. The receptionists and folks in billing have always been courteous to me. I usually do come across many sassy employees here and there (retail, restaurant, coffee shop, etc...) and I am happy to give the sass right back or even brush it off-depending on the situation. Maybe patients need to relax a bit, its not the end of the world. Anyhoo, the location is right next to the hospital, Trader Joes, and conveniently off Totem Lake. Clean facility, coffee and tea available and a nice aquarium in the waiting room. read more

Before everything went horribly wrong and because they don't return phone calls and I was forced to write a bad review and put the words and incompetence of the staff on blast....I should start by saying the first visit went ok. My longtime dentist retired and my husband referred me here. Everyone seemed nice and I had a 20 minute teeth cleaning, lots of X-rays, an evaluation of my teeth and a recommended plan for some of what seemed to be 10% needed and 90% unnecessary future services. The front desk informed me that in a week or so they would let me know what future services my insurance would cover. I did have to have a bad crown replaced two days later at which point they collected several hundred dollars from me stating that my insurance said that's the amount they wouldn't cover. I found out from my insurance company they had over collected from me by more than a hundred dollars once they had paid the dentist. This would not have bothered me except that the office never called or sent me a statement saying I had a credit due to me. They also never called me about any additional procedures and benefits as promised. To compound their issues.... they promised my husband a gift for referring me and they promised me a gift for positive reviews online. We never got any of their gifts of course and I called the office three times and sent an email as reminders for everything over a month and a half. I received no email back and no phone calls back. I called the office a fourth time two months after my first visit and spoke to the front office voicing my concerns about the credit to me and was informed they were keeping it for my next appt. which I didn't have one scheduled and so she tried to push an appt on me to have another crown replaced which I wasn't aware I needed and a deep pocket cleaning. I reluctantly scheduled for the crown replacement although still confused and also told her about our gifts we didn't receive. She said they were on the way. After 2 more weeks of receiving nothing and feeling increasingly like I'm going in for a crown replacement that I don't need but that they are doing just because we can, I sent an email cancelling my appt and requesting my money back that they had decided to keep without consulting me. I politely asked for confirmation. A week went by with no reply to that or the fifth phone call to their office. I called a sixth and final time and spoke to a dental assistant who told me my appt was cancelled and my refund is on the way. I was shocked that nobody had called me back or emailed me back to that effect. I told her of my plight to which I was informed that the front office had been "having issues and weirdness and that the weirdness is caused by the doctors wife being in the office". An appalling accusation since she used to run the office - quite well from what I hear from other patients. This accusation had nothing to do with my problem with the front office not returning calls over two months or keeping my money so I ignored her comments. I was not offered to speak with the office manager nor the doctor even though I expressed clearly that it's a pity that no one in charge had called me or spoken with me to manage this situation and I made my frustration known. The assistant indicated she "would have a talk with the front desk even though it's not her job." Although this assistant was nice when I met her in the office and the lack of communication from the office isn't her fault-this conversation wasn't a big help. Later, my husband, a patient of 18 years, called to speak to the doctor. He was told by the office manager that he wouldn't talk to him or take his call. She was the only one he is allowed to speak with and that she has done all she can. She further said she spoke with me on a conference call- a complete and total lie. Further, IF she was listening in on my conversation with the dental assistant who answered the phone, then she both should have identified herself to me AND discussed my poor experience and concerns with me. Instead, I said I wouldn't be back and they would lose our family as patients. My husband and sister in law have been coming there almost 20 years and were cast off without any concern or a thought. My husband was dismissed by the office manager when she had the ability to discuss matters with both of us and make it right. To date, I've never received a statement of my account or a call back from any person at this practice. I implore Dr. Richardson and his wife to take a hard look at their staff and how they represent them. Further, to encourage an open door policy with patients who have concerns with staffs actions instead of empowering an office manager who didn't even attempt to remedy a matter that was simple and could've been easily smoothed over. You lost 3 current patients, our children who haven't been in yet and all future referrals. VERY POOR BUSINESS PRACTICES AND ABHORRENT CUSTOMER SERVICE. read more

Profits, not patients is their new priority since Optima bought out Kirkland Dentistry. Due to COVID I requested to get in and out quickly for my cleaning. Booked 1st appt of the day. Hygienist said that I was overdue for my bitewings Xrays. They can see from my records that I have never had a cavity or teeth issues. I said I am not comfortable with that and will do them next time. She had me fill out a "heath form" which was really a form to identify ways to upsell me. She went and spoke to the new female dentist that took over the practice and came back and said that because of their licensing they had to do the xrays or I couldn't get my teeth cleaned. So I left. What a waste of my time! When profits are a dentist's priority you won't be able to trust anything they say. read more

BEWARE!!! This establishment has employees that steal cards when you're not looking. I was in my chair yesterday for a 1-hr whitening appointment and sometime during that appointment someone went into my purse which was hanging on the hook several feet behind me. I had my noise canceling airpod headphones in and was catching up on class material and was very focused and was not paying attention to my surroundings. I've never made an accusation of this nature before and I'm still shocked. I saw that there was a transaction on my debit card made yesterday at a burger place, 3 hours after my appointment ended and just 2 blocks away from this dental office. I never use this debit card and it was still in my purse, so someone took it and snapped a photo. Please beware going here! I bought a groupon and that was a big mistake! read more

I've been coming here for years. When I first became a patient I was seen by Dr. Lynn Jones herself. Over time I've been passed around to various dentists at the practice. My experience has been, overall, fine. Not great, not horrible. However, after my most recent (and last) appointment, I had to share my experience. I come in as scheduled, every 6 months for cleanings. I have good, healthy teeth. Since I've been a patient here, I've had one, MAYBE two cavities (over 8 years). At my most recent appt, I was looked at by Dr. Kemahli, who I had never met. After a quick look at my teeth and my x rays, he informed me that I had SIX CAVITIES that needed to be filled. I was speechless. How do I go from having 1-2 cavities over 8 years, to 6 cavities in 6 months?!!! I asked him how that could happen and he genuinely could not give me a straight answer. Instead, he pointed to spots on my x rays that he said were cavities. They suggested I get my appt booked to get these taken care of, as I am moving out of town. I got a second opinion from a friend who OWNS HIS OWN dentistry that is considered a top dentistry in Bellevue. He told me my teeth are fine. He said there might be a small amount of decay under one of the teeth that already had a filling, but even that was not a 911. It is quite frankly scary and alarming that I could have potentially paid to have SIX cavities filled, for no reason.... this is seriously sketchy and I would highly recommend you NOT to go to Optima Dental. read more

I had a horrible dental experience prior to going to Dr. Richardson that made me a "white-knuckler" when I found him a few years ago. He was conveniently located near my work, and after speaking to the extremely kind and helpful receptionists (Annie and Melinda now), I knew that I'd have a great experience based on that first interaction. The entire team is a family, and has become one to me over the time I have been treated by Dr. Richardson. They have taken time to get to know me personally and always do a wonderful job whether I'm there for a cleaning, filling or root canal. I've always got something going on with my mouth, but I know that Dr. Richardson and the team will take care of me with no pain! I'd also like to note for anyone that may be reading that may have special medical conditions that Dr. Richardson and the staff are considerate to those needs, as well. I just had my first visit with Dr. Richardson and his team. It went so smoothly! Making an appointment was easy, the receptionists were friendly and helpful. When I arrived at the office, there was no wait time, I went right back to the chair to begin my visit. The dental assistant, Wendy, was wonderful and easy to talk to. She took my x-rays, and we chatted easily as she worked efficiently. Dr. Richardson came back a few minutes after I arrived, and he was incredibly friendly and kind to me as he did his oral exam. The dental hygienist, Chris, was next to do my cleaning. She was sweet and did a great job cleaning my teeth and making sure I was comfortable while she worked. Checking out was easy and quick. This used to be Dr. Richardson's dental practice that my family and I had gone to for 13 years. Today was my first time going since it changed ownership to Optima Dental Spa. I was very pleased with my dental appointment. They had so many Covid prevention measures in place. They were ready for me right on time. The hygienist was very efficient and was friendly. I was so pleased with the new technology they are using with the electric water scaler/scraper. I didn't experience any pain on the sensitive areas of my teeth/gums like I do with the manual scaler/scraper. The dentist was also friendly and efficient and made sure I was able to talk about any concerns. I am very happy with the way everything was handled at my appointment. read more

Recently I switched dentists after 30 years at another dentist. I discussed having four crowns replaced. Not something which excited me. Regardless, Dr. Richardson said he could replace mine in a single visit per crown instead of the normal two visits of old. All four have now been replaced and they look great and more importantly they feel great. Flossy used to be a chore with the old crowns. Now I can floss in a quarter of the time as before. The staff is very friendly and they made an unpleasant task fun. I highly recommend this dentist and staff. read more

Dr. Richardson and his staff are the BEST ever! If you are phobic of dentists, as I am (I'm not ashamed to admit it), you will SO appreciate the time, care, patience and compassion he and his hygenists and assistants will show you. I was referred to this office by my neighbour who is a bigger wimp than I am; she literally cries while waiting in the waiting room! The staff comes out and holds her hands and talks her down. Me, I'm not as bad - but still, not great. I need the nitrous oxide for ANYTHING, as well as the heated massage chair and my Sinatra playing on my Walkman, to even consider the most benign procedure. But the staff takes the time to calm my nerves, to distract me, to help me breathe (literally!), even to make me laugh sometimes - all the while being genuine, and not condescending (as other dentists' staff have done in the past). I've gone to Dr. Richardson for 5 or 6 years now, and my husband is a patient here, too. I've even recommended a co-worker, who is extremely phobic, and now she, too, won't consider going anywhere else. I can't say enough great things about this practice! read more

I have finally found my new dentist! Super state-of-the-art equipment (can make a crown for you in like an hour, in office) but doesn't try to bleed you for everything you're worth. in fact, he fixed a crown I had had nothing but problems with for years, for less than what I originally paid for it! He had to do more work, insert a post, made my crown right then and there, hooked me up with the good ole' NO, and totally fixed the problem - for less. To add to it, he's very personable, his staff is fun and friendly, and the atmosphere is upbeat. I have already referred at least 3 people, and they all agree. I had not been to the dentist for nearly ten year and if I had a dentist like Dr. Richardson prior to my ten year dental deficit I would have gone to the dentist every six months for a cleaning! Dr. Richardson and his staff are professional and family-friendly. The family-friendly part has been useful with our three children. I have TERRIBLE dentist anxiety, and over the years I've tried numerous different dentists only to be disappointed in many ways. But, Dr. Richardson and his staff were fabulous. They were very understanding of my anxiety and were careful to make me comfortable. They also did a fabulous job of explaining what they were doing and why it was necessary.
