All I can say is check the outdates on everything. After checking the outdates scrutinize your receipt after checkout and go over to the service desk, wait in line and have them refund all the overcharges. I mean this is happening in 4 out of 5 visits. To top this all off, most service associates treat you as a major inconvenience. With two exceptions......the only bright spots and helpful employees I have encountered have been with one woman who works in Deli and the gentleman that stocks refrigeration. They are always helpful and always have a smile. Because of these two, I gave them both a star. read more

Most of the items that I ordered are OUT OF STOCK. They are used for Easter dinner and this store runs out. Why? How? Someone is NOT doing their job correctly. The girl doing the shopping is very nice but now I am screwed because I have to pay someone else to go out shopping for me. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!! I stopped at Shaw's Supermarket to get haddock on my way home from work tonight. I was looking at the case when the guy working there comes up to the side of the case and asks if I need help. I said I was looking for haddock but you must not have any. He said yes we do. I asked where, he literally said right there in front of your face! I said you mean in the empty spot here? He then tells me they have swordfish and salmon. I said no thank you we don't eat that. DO NOT BUY MEAT FROM THIS STORE! Everytime I go to this store, 9 times out of 10 when I pass the meat section, there is literally green, rotten meat on display. I wish this was an exaggeration or a joke, but it's really not. Meat aside, if you decide to buy anything else, make sure you always check the sell by/expiration date, as most of them will be expired. I want to like shaws. I really do but sometimes it's hard. My recent pet peeve is the non existent self checkout area. I've never seen it open and I remember years ago when it was installed wanting to try it....but it never opened up. I want this open which is why I come here to complain. I've also had issues many many time with things not ringing up the correct price. Was always having to go over to the customer service desk and wait for 10 people to play their lottery tickets before I could get my price adjustment. SOmetimes having to return things like ice cream cause they take too long. I want that self checkout so I can watch the prices like a hawk to make sure im not overcharged anymore. Let's get your act together shall we and get those self service "express" lanes open. Stop and shop in Danvers has 6 self service isles....and all 6 are in use at the same time. Staff in the Peabody Shaw's have been very helpful. They have taken time to answer questions and led me to look for unusual items I did not find myself. The manager was responsive to an issue I had with produce and resolved it for me. read more

This is my "Go To" store. Well organized & stocked . Helpful personnel & everything seems well spaced. It's always busy yet doesn't feel overcrowded . Parking is plentiful . Normally I enjoy going to shaws as it a bit more personal than other grocery stores in the area. This was my first trip to the shaws next to the north shore mall. I stoped to get a quick meal for dinner since the wife and I didn't feel like cooking. I grabbed two of the pre made meals from the meat department and at checkout the cashier dumped out my basket tipping over both the meals. He noticed his mistake but continued to ring them out as if everything was fine, hoping I wouldn't notice. I didn't feel like dealing with the guy who clearly didn't take pride in his work. I really can't stand this store. I only go for convenience. The staff are always so rude I don't think I have once encountered friendly staff member. Tonight the cashier Alex literally didn't say a word to me or look at me the whole encounter. He didn't even bother to tell me my total so I just struggled to see the screen behind him. I am really not sure how they are still open but I would be only a little upset if they closed solely because of the bank. Staff is so miserable and rude. They are also unsanitary looking. I went into the 10 items or less lane by accident -not seeing their tinted-dark light up sign! I had 20 items (5 were tissue boxes)! When I got all my stuff on the belt and moved up to the register I noticed the sign and apologized to the cashier and people behind me as I felt bad for it. The cashier, Savanna rolled her eyes and decided she was going to make a mockery of me and make me move my items to another line. I told her, she was more than welcome to get me set up on the next available register as I am an honest customer and it was a mistake! She threw down a receipt belonging to the woman in front of me and stormed off like a baby needing a diaper change. A kid who was bagging ran over to cover for her as her friend Alexa from the next register yelled over to me that it was 10 ITEMS! I hve never been treated that way anywhere as a paying customer. I called the store manager/director after 100 rings and he sounded stoned or high on the phone as he was trying to sound apologetic. This was my first and last time shopping there! Was there this evening and last week and unfortunately had to leave my items and walk out both times because there were no express registers and only two or three regular registers open and the lines were a mile long and moving slow. No management or customer service person at the registers to direct traffic or open new registers when necessary. Walked out, five minutes later at Market Basket, store fully stocked ,plenty of registers, in and out in no time. Why anyone would go to that Shaws is beyond me. The place has improved since they renovated but it's always a troubling experience when I have to come here. There are never enough cashiers working, and when they do have people there, they're extremely slow and it takes FOREVER to get out of the store. The express lines are somehow the slowest. I only stop here when I have to get one or two items I forgot to get at Market Basket...because it is so expensive. Expect to pay at least 20% more here than at MB. This is probably why the store is always empty, despite the convenient location. Usually only try to come here if i forgot to get something. Kind of run down, and pretty pricey. Seems like every time I get "fresh" produce from here, I have to stand there and go through almost all of the selection because its already starting to go bad, or goes bad by the next day. I stopped in today to pick up a few things for my family while I was at work. Got home and my family said the deli tasted funny so they didn't eat the sandwiches. I made a complaint by phone. My husband said check the potato salad that tasted funny also, that was outdated. My time and money is limited and they are selling outdated food that will make your family sick. Previously, I had wrote a scathing report on there lack of customer service I had experienced there recently. However, that has since been rectified by the General Manager at the store Paul. Because of his due diligence everything was squared away immediately. I felt obligated to speak about this man's professionalism. Not to mention the turn around at the store.
