Market Basket has always been and will always be that girl. Its almost always busy and there is almost always lines, but its worth it for the savings. Not EVERYTHING is competitively priced, but most things are. Their meat and seafood selection and prices are amazing. I also love the prepared foods/pizza/sandwich counters. i regularly shop at this chelsea market basket and every week i buy a half gallon of milk which typically has an expiration date that is 7-9 days out from the date i purchase it but over the last 3 weeks each and every milk that i purchase has good sour/bad 4-5 days before the expiration date that is listed on the carton. what is going on here? is it how they are storing it in the backrooms? i refuse to buy my milk here any longer. hopefully a rep for this store sees this review and actually does something about it. read more

Yo...this may be one of the best grocery stores I've been to. Sales everywhere and they have a very awesome variety of items, especially the meats and seafood. But the main reason I came here was for the lobsters. You can get lobsters here for $8/lbs. What's soo great about the lobsters here? They will cook the lobsters for you on the spot. They're soft shell lobsters, so you do not need a nut cracker to crack anything open. I've witness other people order 15 at once, all cooked, so this is the real deal. Large store it has all types of ethnic foods, the produce seafood very fresh and a huge variety of everything you need the prices are the lowest for a supermarket. The employees are very nice. I did something that I have never done had a market basket fresh donut and coffee. There donuts are freshly made each day and the coffee is excellent. They have a really nice clean cafe area. It's all in an area where it's all foreign food like Mexican Cambodian, Puerto Rican type of thing and everything in another language so I don't know what it says so I always take a stop at Market Basket so I can grab a sandwich or something or pizza or something like that. People are always kind and friendly explaining everything. They don't rush you you could sit there at the counter and eat your dinner, but you can take it with you as like most Market Basket. It is very very busy all the time so you have to have a lot of patience. that's for sure you can however if you have a small amount of an order, but nothing has to be weighed like banana, bananas or something. I like to study the flyer before I shop for sale items. Eating mostly vegan/vegetarian you can find almost everything here. I like their nut dection near the produce area. No matter what time or when you go to this location, it is extremely overcrowded, we have recently been having issue with cold cuts, going bad faster, along with fresh produce that goes bad within days of buying. We bought a bag of frozen salmon and four people who had it got instantly sick. The quality of their food has definitely gone down with the prices going up. The customer service with cashiers is hit or miss a lot of the times they are extremely rude and the past few times I have gone. The store has had a sour smell to it along with not being very clean and kept together. I recommend either going to the Woburn location or taking the drive to New Hampshire. read more

I'm torn here. I grew up on the west coast where there are just fewer people in general. What I'm used to as the Thanksgiving Day crowds is just a normal crowd at any given time on any given day here. It's absolutely insane how many people are in this grocery store. The layout of the store is fine, but it definitely does not accommodate the oodles of people in every aisle at all times. It's messy for this same reason. I can't confirm or deny the prices as everything in MA appears to be insanely expensive. The two times we've shopped here our bill has been well over $200. We're 2 people and shop weekly. Nuts. HOWEVER, they do make a killer deli sandwich and I have been happy with the produce and meat quality. I wish the meat selection was better though. Impossible to find lower fat ground beef. read more

I thought it was a joke. I offered to get Tarp's ( Santarpio's) for my friend that I was picking up from the airport. They, instead opted for a Market Basket steak and cheese. Outrageous prices! This store on Somerville Ave was once my favorite. We had a great Manager there who was very responsive to our needs. Management now are so unconcerned with the customer. I Feel there is a lot of price gouging. Some of these price increases are not inflation driven but taking advantage of customers. For example a half-gallon of MB orange juice went from $1.99 to 3.89 in one year! My shopping which averaged under 100 dollars no about 135 to 150 dollars. Also, trying to get waited on at the deli is near impossible--more than half my time in the store is spent at the deli. The employees are very good at getting us out of the store but many do not speak or understand English. This store needs some updating, meanwhile I am still looking for a store that is more reasonable and carries more brand names than MB. read more

The food from the sub station is amazing--that's why it's not a 1-star review! However, the service as of late needs to change. I understand that the sub station is usually busy, but that doesn't make it acceptable when the workers in the kitchen put you on hold for over five minutes or just hang up on you. This has happened about six different times: I'll place an order and get an estimated wait time of 30 minutes, but I end up waiting an hour because they never started making my food. Just yesterday, I caught one of the female cooks in a lie. Fifteen minutes after she was told to start my order, she placed two subs on the back counter--completely out of my view because of how far I was standing at the time. I walked closer and asked if the subs were mine. I got no reply because she immediately began making someone else's order. I didn't want to cause a scene, even though I was irritated. Another five minutes passed, and a woman who had been patiently waiting for her food noticed the subs sitting there and suggested they might be mine. I walked up to the counter, and the clerk finally picked up the two subs and handed them to me. Safe to say, there were about 7 other disappointed customers waiting for their orders. A way that this place can improve is to take names down when documenting phone orders to ensure random people don't come up and say that they're waiting for an order they never actually placed. I over heard some people say they believe that their orders were taken. The staff doesn't ensure that the appropriate orders go to their respective customers. I'm really disappointed in how things are being ran. This is my favorite spot to come to to grab lunch before work, now it's starting to change. The Market basket in Chelsea has to be one of the largest markets around... They have a food court that could rival any mall in America. They have Sushi chefs, pizza made to order, subs and wraps made to order, they also have a long very long counter with cafeteria style meals. lots and lots of good looking home style foods. This location also has a huge bakery making breads cakes and pastries fresh daily. Now lets not forget the cafe with coffee etc and seating to enjoy a hot/cold lunch right there in the store. Usually it's packed and difficult to get a seat. They also have a butcher with had selection of fine meats available. The seafood department features a very large selection of fish as well as shellfish and they will steam your lobsters right there in the store for you. ( I take advantage of this once a month). The deli is big, full service and always has a line. The floral selection at this location is great. Many choices of bouquets and plants. The fruit and vegetable selection is like no other..lots and lots of rows restocked all day. However for a store of this caliber and size I would expect a much better organic section, although being were it is it may not be beneficial to store profits. The store somehow is always spotless, not sure how as I usually do not see anyone cleaning, but it sure is clean. Check out is rapid with approximately 40 registers going quick with well trained clerks. The parking lot is massive so you never have to worry about a spot, just how far away it is... If you only speak English you won't be helped and employees, including management are extremely rude when you don't understand what they are saying. I was new to this area and usually shop at Market Basket in New Hampshire. Figured I would give this one a try and every single employee, I tried to talk to either looked at me, turned away and walked away, or just shook their head at me and said no. Checking out I had the same problem. The cashier could not understand me which made me feel uncomfortable because I also couldn't understand them. The manager tried to come over and help and after when she was leaving, she gave me and my disabled father, a dirty look, and then started talking about us Not to mention the store is not kept up like other Market Basket. I've been to. I just don't recommend it if you need to ask the employees or management something. And the produce section was lacking fresh produce. A lot of the fruit was full of mold any of the lettuce or greenery was wilted and brown. I think they should have some English speaking employees because there's nothing wrong with employees that can't speak English, but for people who can't speak other languages it's harder and again just unfair. read more

I am working in the area and want to stay away from over priced fast food. When i walked in i noticed a coffee station. Then premade salads of all types. As i kept walking i see fresh made pizza, sandwiches, fresh made hot subs, and then thier is fried chicken, potatoes. It's crazy the place is like a restaurant.
