Bad company. Bad Communication. Stay Away! I had an estimate scheduled for 8 AM on October 10, 2022, and no one showed. I called at 8:10 AM with no answer so I left them a voicemail. I called them again on October 13, 2022, to just clarify and get things straight as I did not want to leave a bad review. An hour after I left the voicemail, I receive a call from the owner (Brett Shaw). He began talking to me very aggressively. He proceeds to tell me that he thought my inquiry was a joke which is why he never responded to my messages or showed up. My request was for trim work and baseboards to be painted in my bathrooms but also stated that if this project is too small that other jobs could be done as well. As a consumer, it is not my job to know the expenses or the prices of this company. I was looking for an estimate while trying to support a local company. Brett has since responded to my review on Google calling me a scam and a liar. I do not appreciate his actions or business practices. Overall, I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt and even put on my Google review "Would love for them to get in touch so I can change my review and support a local business". I have engaged Shaw's three times and every time with excellent and fast results. First was with my own home. The home was built in 1964, and we bought it in 2014. The exterior was wood siding. The wood had not been painted for years and was clearly very distressed. Shaw's with the help of its paint supplier figured out what specialty paint was needed for those parts of the siding that were the worst. In addition, Shaw's had a team of carpenters who re-sided a portion of the house in preparation for the final painting. Great job. The second job was for an out-of-town rental home. Along with the painting, Shaw's refinished some walls and even lined me up with a glass repair business that helped replace crack windows and mirrors. The third job, just completed, was another rental home where a tenant, without my permission of course, painted a bedroom a Kelly green with some stream of consciousness graffiti for a bit more flair. Shaw's hung in there and after about a dozen coats of paint and a modification of the neutral paint color, eliminated the putrid green paint. Reliable, fast, good-humored and determined to have an excellent result. I definitely recommend Shaw's. read more

Found Brett on Yelp as we were moving and needed some touch up around the house. Sad to say he missed the scheduled appt time and did not even call to apologize or reschedule. I had to contact him and ask if he needed to reschedule. May be just a fluke, but as a business operator, I am not impressed. read more

Brett is excellent to work with. We hired his company recently to paint after a recent second floor washer fiasco. He was prompt in response giving me an estimate very quickly. His estimate was within FIVE DOLLARS of our insurance estimate! Another company wanted almost double. That shows you how fair his pricing is. His team, led by Ernesto (so kind and customer focused) came in and quickly got the job done. They were very good about making certain that we were happy with the results. My parents hired Brett and his team to get their house ready to be put on the market and have zero complaints! We have tried since July 10 (for over 15 weeks now) to get our garage doors stained. Brett first promised the job would be done early August, then September, and finally early October. He often did not respond to our emails and is now completely unresponsive via email or telephone. Unreliable, unprofessional, disappointing. read more

We were so impressed with Brett's work the first time we hired him, that we had him stain our deck a couple weeks ago. It was something that needed to be done quickly as we were going on vacation in July. We initially thought of doing a waterproof stain, but after talking with Brett decided to do a Solid Stain. The color we picked was "Cape Cod Red." Brett came out and did the work on a Sunday. Our deck looks phenomenal, and several of our neighbors have gone as far to ask if we got a new deck. Again, we will continue to hire Shaw's Premier Painting as our painting provider for all future work we need done. read more

Is this the same company?? The reviews of Shaw were so good, and my two conversations with him, personally, were so convincing, that I actually wrote this company into the closing requirements for my house purchase in Champaign. THIS WAS A BIG MISTAKE. I was completely shocked by the lack of interest he showed in completing the [exterior] work on our house once he knew he was definitely going to be paid out of an escrow account. In short, his subcontractors did a hideous job -- dropped paint everywhere; smeared it on windows and screens and trim; were working well after dark, when they couldn't see anything, just to leave the job; said they were finished when large areas were not even painted; took photos to prove that the job was finished, but the photos were so misrepresentative of the actual work that the bank actually asked Shaw to return to complete the job properly after I sent escrow "real" photos of the work. I will never deal with Shaw again. read more
