Simpson Strong-Tie confirmed in writing that this unauthorized act voided my manufacturer warranty. Failed Deadlines & Abandonment: After months of delays, the contractor was given a final 55-day timeframe to either complete the work already paid for or return the funds. He failed to meet this deadline and every other timeline he personally established eventually abandoning the site entirely. Lack of Transparency & Cleanup: He has failed to provide invoices, an explanation of completed work, or a safe site cleanup, leaving the property in a dangerous state with water intrusion and pest infestations. Ongoing State Investigation: A CSLB Special Investigator is scheduled for a site review on May 7. The contractor has falsely claimed that the State Board told him to stop the project and that 'the law is on his side'--assertions that contradict the board's actual procedures. Insurance Fraud: While claiming a 'Workers' Comp Exemption' on the CSLB website, he utilized a full crew of uninsured workers. The CSLB has since cancelled his exemption because of this fraud. Illegal Financial Practices: He violated CA law from day one by demanding a 25% down payment (legal limit is 10% or $1,000) and took weekly payments not tied to actual work. Deceptive Advertising (BPC § 7161): The 'portfolio' photos on his website (kyvosconstruction.com) are stolen/stock images. When I told them this, the owner and receptionist both flipped out and put a pre-lien on my house BEFORE GIVING AN INVOICE. They probably freaked out because they knew I was right and they were just trying to scare me. The receptionist also said she looked me up on Facebook and told me I was pretty but a "piece of work". After complaining to Homeadvisor, where I found them, and threatening to call the CA Licensing Board they finally gave me an invoice at a fair price and removed the lien on my house. Becky finally apologized after everything was said and done, saying she was just really stressed out. I don't care how stressed out you are, there is NO EXCUSE for anyone acting so disrespectful and childish toward a paying customer. Fast forward to now, our AC unit went out. Come to find out, they messed with the disconnect box and screwed directly into the box causing it to arc and trip the breaker (aka metal on metal is not good). The HVAC guy said they would've immediately known something was wrong but made a conscious decision not to fix it. Oh and they also said the stucco would eventually match the existing color of the house once it dried. It's been 4 months (pretty sure it's dry now) and it's still much darker than our original stucco... Thanks for making our experience with you as horrible as possible. After dragging us through the mud with your liens and stalking and threatening, you also screwed up our AC during the hottest summer we've had in years.
