Let me start off by saying that I have a bit of customer service background so it's extremely…read moreimportant to me as a customer and as an employee that all parties are treated with respect. I have never taken the time to write a review before but I am so appalled by my experience that this will be my first. I set up hair and makeup for a wedding party of 6-7 people plus myself. Weddings are so expensive, so I was told it never hurts to ask for any discounts a vendor might be providing. If there is any way I can decrease the burden on my bridesmaids, I'm going to try. I sent an extremely lighthearted email saying that gratuities were very important to me and I wanted to make sure that everyone would be able to tip appropriately on top of the base price. I asked if there was any wiggle room in the $150 travel fee to travel 26 miles with 2 stylists. Her response: "I understand that weddings are expensive and you are trying to cut some costs where you can. We, in turn, have to make sure that the charges are worth our time and efforts. To travel to on-location events consists of packing and loading all of our supplies and equipment and then the gas, mileage and 'wear and tear' on our vehicle. Our prices reflect our quality and time. Actually the charge for the bride for 2 appointments is less than what 2 actual appointments would cost. Our before hours fee is a set fee, it does not change for the amount of time that we arrive early. We are not normally open on Saturday and when we do work on Saturday we start at 10am, so anything before 10am would have a before hours surcharge. As a service provider gratuities are important. However it is equally important to receive appropriate compensation for our services themselves. At this point I am feeling as though we may not be the best choice to accommodate your wedding party. I can recommend other salons in Gunnison and Crested Butte if you would like." Ok, I was a little shocked by the email, but felt she misunderstood me and took offense. I sent another email to try and smooth things over saying: "I sense from your email that I offended you and that was absolutely not my intent. The person helping me plan the wedding always asks me to inquire about any discounts with all vendors. We have no problems paying the contracted amount plus gratuities if it is still possible. Let me know your thoughts." Her response: "Honestly you did not offend me whatsoever. However we are very good at what we do and we are extremely busy. We actually do not work on Saturdays, so contracting weddings is just a courtesy to bridal parties. I also understand that you were told to ask for discounts but I do not feel that our prices should be discounted, challenged or questioned. We are too busy to try to squabble over these things. You did make it clear that you were concerned that the gratuities would suffer due to the pricing. Gratuities are a reflection of services provided, they are not 'a given'. As a result of your concerns I am now wondering if it will be worth our efforts if we will not be properly compensated. As I stated in my last email, at this point it might be in the best interest of your bridal party to find other accommodations. Thank you for your interest." This was jaw-dropping for myself, my wedding planner, and my bridesmaids. I'm not going to pick apart the email here and go on and on about how pompous and disrespectful this sad excuse for a customer service provider is. I'm just going to say that there is no way I would not tip a vendor appropriately and, in fact, I'm known to be an over-tipper. So Jennifer, since it seems to be your practice of turning away business, it's your loss of a large amount of money and a very easy going, respectful customer. Oh, and probably less customers after reading this review and hearing this story from my friends and family in the CB - Gunnison area.
