I had an appt with Joyce Acob of Shear Creation this morning at 11am. Unsure of the location I left early and arrived in the vicinity 20 minutes early but even with the help of Maps could not find the salon. At 10:45am I texted Joyce to let her know I could not find the location, and again at 10:55. I continued driving around. I found her number and tried calling her with no success. Completely frustrated, and somewhat angry I called again 30 minutes after my appt was supposed to start and this time I mentioned leaving a Yelp review. THIS GOT HER ATTENTION and she called me back immediately. There was no apology, no "come on in I'll see you now", NOTHING. This was the worst, lamest, lack of customer service ever. I would never, EVER recommend this place to anyone. It was a complete waste of my morning! read more

Sebastian is tuff with his shear work. i haven't got a haircut since december and my barber moved to las vegas. i wanted to try a new haircut. i was very vague about what i wanted but him knowing what's trendy made it easier because he gave me the haircut i was seeking, i just didn't know what to say to get it. we ended up doing a low taper on the sides and leaving the top long to style but Sebastian sheared it to where the top is versatile to be styled as a middle part flow or a 70/30 flow. grateful i came across him through researching online about barbers. most barbers in hawaii is only good with clippers but Sebastian is good with clippers and shears. definitely will be going back!¡ read more

I have been seeing Mrs.Peay for over 10 years now. I know she is the most sincere and caring stylist. She has placed extensions in my hair for over 10 years. I have also had color and cuts done with her and have always been pleased. She does take her time and makes sure it is right before you leave if not she will fix it to your liking. Looking for more people who have had been damaged like me from Kim Peay at this establishment. I am looking to contact all individuals. Especially anyone who knows who certified Kim Peay with this company that produces this product. All my research and her admission was she didn't have the right chemicals because the beauty supply store was out. How on earth would I know. She convinced me to have a Japanese Silk Straightener was ruined after the first 5 hours of application. She advises me it was under processed to return for another session 5 hours by then my hair was transformed from brown to burnt red and then she recommended me to return for Olaplex and a special hair dye to return it to my color all I asked was to be made whole again. Which she has denied to do with another stylist and to incur the debt as she has not even returned my 300.00 paid on the first visit. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I've always admired my co-worker's highlights and asked her where she got hers done at, and she said Shear Creation in Waipahu. She explained that it's a small salon near Tanioka's and the stylists there are so relaxed, they really make you feel like you belong there. I set up an appointment for that Friday and found a picture so the stylist could see what I wanted. I pulled into the parking lot and found a stall quite easily. I was welcomed with a hug from the stylist and she proceeded to ask me questions about what I wanted to do with my hair that day. I showed her the picture and she said it'd be easy to do and started on my hair immediately. I was getting highlights done. Lots of 'em. She told me if there's anything I didn't like about my hair, let her know so she can fix it herself. She said she'd rather fix an "issue" she did, than have someone else fix it because she doesnt like fixing other stylists' mistakes. When she was done, she instructed me to sit under the hair dryer where I waited.... and waited.... and waited..... so long to the point where I believe she forgot about me. She was talking up a storm with the other customers and employees and I even asked her if I should be sitting under the dryer for 45 minutes. She told me not to worry about it and continued to talk with the other employees. She didnt even check my hair! So ten minutes later, she brought me to the sink and washed out the bleach, then told me she "didn't like the color" so she'd have to do it again!!!! I was soooo irritated at this point that I just wanted to leave, but I didnt want to leave with hair that looked "weird"!! My highlights looked almost GRAY. I had already been there for two hours and really just wanted to go home. So she re-highlighted my hair and I sat under the dryer again for about 30 minutes. This time she was satisfied with my hair. I sat back in the chair and OOOOOOOH MY GOD. Why was there a huge, 2 inch thick blonde streak of a highlight running across the right side of my head?! And why couldnt I see any of the other highlights?! I know I seen all the foil in my hair! Where did they go?! And what the hell was that blonde streak doing there?! I was so upset and eager to leave that I just wrote her a check for the $80 I was charged and stormed out. I immediately called my bank and placed a "stop payment" on that check. My bank asked me for a reason to stop the payment, I replied, "Unsatisfied with service." Two stars for the salon. One star for the stylist. I've refrained from sharing her name because there's still hope for that little salon. But seriously, I've experienced MUCH better service than that. read more

This review is for Kim at the salon. Kim is a hair master! I saw her page on Facebook and she was recommended by several friends to me. I finally had to opportunity to go see her. I got a full highlight, trim and style. Kim was very meticulous and put in a lot of foils. The color came out perfect and she was able to eliminate a LOT of brassiness, which is amazing! My blonde looks fantastic. She also did a great job re-freshing my hair cut. It looks so healthy now! I will definitely be back to her and would recommend her to anyone. read more

This is the home of my favorite barber and trusted friend, Chan. My BF has been cutting his hair with Chan for many years and we truly consider him our friend. He is so meticulous and precise and has never given a bad cut. People come far and wide for his service and for good reason. He's very accommodating and such a friendly and wonderful person. When my son came along, his first cut was with Chan and has been with him since. We love Chan and have become great friends with him. Not being biased, I SINCERELY recommend him for a men's or boy's cut. He listens to what you want and executes it to the T! Ruth is the shop's owner and she is just a tornado of happiness in heels! After 2 years of looking for a good hair stylist on the island, I'm very happy to discover Kim Peay! I have medium/long light brown hair and Kim refreshed my very, very worn out balayage. Went to the salon and after 3 hours, I left with gold streaks and highlights were done an inch from my roots I paid over $150 to have it look like that. Let me start by saying I had never been to a hair salon in Hawaii until I went to this one. We are a military family so we are new to the island. I was extremely anxious when it came to finding a new stylist because I had only had my hair done by 1 person for many years, but Kim was seriously the best hair stylist. She was really supportive of me being a military spouse, and she is so nice and thoughtful and she really takes the time to make sure you are getting what you ask for. This 5-star review is for Bong, not the rest of the salon. Bong has been my mother's go-to guy for color & cut for years now. Today he did my new year, post-divorce cut, & he did an AMAZING job. The other lady barber stylists seemed jealous of Bong; I heard them gossiping about his huge customer base & supposedly outrageous prices. The guy has skills & experience, & they're just buttsore that they simply aren't as good as him. While getting my hair done, I heard them swearing up a storm in the back complaining about everything under the sun. Bong kept his focus and concentration during my cut despite their filthy mouths. Bong & Kim SEEM to be the only PROFESSIONAL stylists here when it comes to customer service (based on what I could hear & see while I was there today [1/11/13]). As far as skills, I have no idea how well the other stylists cut/style, but I do know that when actresses from the Philippines are in town, Bong is their go-to guy for styling & cut. My bill came out to about $45, which is 3 times more than what I pay at N-Styles by Tony, but it was worth it. I get my hair cut once or twice a year because I am extremely nitpicky about who touches my head, so trust me on this one--see Bong if you want to look beautiful, fresh, young, & clean. read more

I called her asking for a trim as soon as possible (hoping for same day because of day to day transportation issues) and she told me she could get me in. As a guy with short hair, I like a neat hair cut. I get my hair cut here every month or so by a guy named Chan. I have been having Chan cut my hair for about two and a half years now. He always does a great job. He is meticulous with my hair cut and he's easy to talk with too. When I call to make my appointment, I call his cell phone directly. I was instructed to do this after the first time I called the business itself. Chan keeps a calendar with him and gives me his available times whenever I call him. He has rarely kept me waiting before appointments and on those occasions it was only a few minutes. I, on the other hand, missed an appointment once and was really late on another occasion and he was very forgiving. He often takes appointments on his Bluetooth headset while he is cutting my hair. He seems to be really busy and well organized. He also always has a clean and well dressed appearance. I pay him directly with cash. The atmosphere of the business is definitely unique. There is 70's and 80's salon artwork in different places and the people who work there seem to make themselves at home. The people are relaxed and they always make me feel welcome even though I'm a Haole from the mainland. I think the place smells like donuts. I don't know why, I never see any donuts. They usually have TV or music playing. One time they were watching a live performance from a 70's soul band. Anyway, I like this place and the people working there and I have had nothing but good experiences. I would highly recommend Chan for a man's haircut. I don't know if he cuts women's hair. I did see he was cutting a kids hair once. read more
