I am very disappointed with my experience at this salon. I paid over $500 for a service that was not completed correctly. My stylist arrived more than 2 hours late, and the results were not what I asked for. The root melt had to be redone, and after washing my hair, my color still turned orange. The space itself was also not clean, which added to the overall poor experience. Instead of taking accountability, I was told the issue was due to my home care routine and was then asked to pay additional money if I wanted the correction fixed. Because of the poor outcome, I had to go to another salon immediately after and spend over $200 to have my hair corrected. When I tried to address this with the salon, I was given the runaround for weeks and eventually told I needed to deal directly with the stylist because she is "independent," which was never made clear at the time of booking. I was unfortunate enough to get my hair done at JV Salon having the WORST experience possible. I spent over $2,800 total ($2,113 for the initial service and another $700 to "add more hair"), to "fix it"and what I was left with is nothing short of devastating. My hair was brutally thinned out to the point of being irreversibly damaged. I walked in with full, healthy hair, and left with thin, broken, lifeless strands that barely resemble what I had. The amount of hair I lost from this appointment is unreal -- it's something I never thought could happen at a professional salon. What makes it even worse is that the person who did this wasn't just a stylist -- they were the manager of the salon. JANEEN. You'd expect the manager to be the most experienced and careful, but instead, I was treated carelessly and left completely heartbroken. I booked a Brazilian Blowout service at JV Salon in September 2025 with stylist Taia Darjean, and it was one of the worst experiences I have ever had at a salon. During the service, the chemical solution was allowed to seep onto my neck and sit on my skin. I reported burning pain during the process, but by the time it was rinsed off, I already had visible skin damage. Within 24 hours, I developed a painful chemical burn that I documented with dated photos. I contacted the salon twice the following day and received no response. When I finally got in touch, the stylist left me a voicemail acknowledging it looked like a "chemical burn" and even recommended that I go to the hospital. The salon owner also recommended that I seek medical care. Both of these admissions confirm this was more than mild irritation, it was an injury caused by negligence. Instead of taking accountability and refunding me, the salon refused. They tried to deflect responsibility by saying the stylist was an independent contractor, and the stylist demanded that I provide her with my private medical records before even considering a refund. That is completely unprofessional and inappropriate. No client should ever have to give up their medical privacy just to be refunded for an injury caused by a salon service. I had this same service done at the same salon by the same stylist three months prior without any reaction, which proves this was not an allergy as they tried to claim. Even if it were, the stylist never performed a patch test, which is a basic safety precaution when applying harsh chemicals. Either way, the negligence is undeniable. In total, I paid $346.26 for this service ($246.26 by card and $100 cash). I left not only with damaged skin but also with a salon unwilling to take any responsibility for what happened. I have since filed a formal complaint with the Hawaiʻi Board of Barbering and Cosmetology and provided my bank with documentation of the injury. If you are considering this salon, please think twice. What happened to me was painful, distressing, and completely avoidable if they had taken basic safety precautions and handled the aftermath professionally. No paying client should ever have to go through this. Edit in response to salon's reply: The salon's response here is misleading. I have dated photographs, text messages, and a voicemail from the stylist herself acknowledging that it looked like a chemical burn. Both the stylist and the owner also recommended I go to the hospital, which shows they knew this was more than mild irritation. If the salon truly believed it was an allergic reaction, that only highlights further negligence since no patch test was ever performed. Demanding my private medical records to consider a refund was inappropriate and unprofessional. Clients should not have to give up their medical privacy to be taken seriously after being injured during a service. The facts are clear: I reported the pain during the service, the solution was left sitting on my skin, and I suffered a chemical burn as a result. Wonderful experience with my hairstylist, Jessica. It was me and my daughter's first time at JV Salon and we'll sure be back. Had partial highlights done and a haircut for my daughter. Jessica made us feel welcome and she did a great job on both our hairs. Price point is up there, but you're paying for the quality. Had an appointment for a trim today with Phoebe. Nice girl, just not impressed with my trim. I usually get my hair cut while it's wet and Phoebe said she'll be cutting my hair dry for her reasons including the texture of my hair... Okay fair, i'm not going to tell you how to do your job, just stating i've always gotten my hair cut wet... Not sure if it's because it was cut dry but i wear my hair in the front as pictured and the right side was continuously longer than the left. I asked her to fix the right side to get it even with the left multiple times, which she did.. After laughing and saying like "oh my goodness" or some remark to that extent. But what got me is her asking if i'm a perfectionist... Not sure where she was trying to go with that but i took it with her getting irritated by me asking to constantly even my hair out? Like yes im a perfectionist, but if im getting my hair cut, i would want it cut and even to how i like. I just thought it was an unnecessary remark that kind of rubbed me the wrong way. I've gone from my natural dark to blonde to red or copper and she always gets what I'm asking for. Iv been coming to JV salon for over 2 years, I used to go to Stephane before she moved and never had any issues with my hair health or anything. I started seeing a new stylist there once Stephane moved and it was good at first, I was getting the same thing as I was before (highlights with root tap) the only difference besides the fact I was there all day was I was being up charged $200-$300 more. This last time I went it I asked for a full bleach "honey blonde" with a root tap, when I tell you I had bleach in my hair for 6+ hours I was seriously worried. At the end my hair came out bright YELLOW and my root tap was so dark and messy not blended at all. I honestly cried in my car once I left mind you they charged me $800 for this. My hair isn't even long. Now 3-4 months later and my hair is breaking. Iv never had hair health issues and have been getting my hair colored for years. I understood the wash someone else did it but I was being split time with another girl who was dying her hair. Shaylene did a really great job on my hair. She spent 10 mins rubbing the toner in my hair, making sure that each section got coated and soaked into my hair which I really appreciated. She then let the color soak for another 15 mins maybe. At JV Salon, everything is ala carte so I also appreciate her transparency when she broke down the pricing and told me how much I would expect BEFORE i stepped foot into the salon. There are many stylists out there who choose not to discuss the pricing and there always ends up being an unexpected cost AFTER the damage is already done. It was my first time coming to JV Salon with Akanae. I got lost a bit so I asked her for help. You're supposed to pass fabric mart and before the ocean front building, turn left. If you see The Brow Bar, you've gone too far because that's building 7. Building 5 is the one before it, but JV Salon is on the other side. Plus you can't see the number of the actual stores and I tried to look for it but i totally made it there on time because of course it's my first time so I made sure I could find it. Akanae is so nice and petite! I felt so bad cause she's super small so I had to tilt my head to the side so she can color it. But she did an overall great Job. She asked me what I wanted to get done and even asked if I had time today. I don't usually plan things after unless it's a late dinner but that's just really considerate of her to ask me that. I showed her what I wanted. I booked for base change and partial highlights. She said it's better to just do full highlights to correct the color overall and she'll do a bleach wash. I said let's do it, estimate $355. Not bad! So we go through the process, start at 12, end around 4 something. I got home in Kalihi around 5 so I'd say end my hair at 4:30. Not bad, 4 hours total. In the end the total was $390 without tip. The good thing is that it calculates the tip for you. So that's nice. I know she said she did the base and toned it a bit darker and yes over time it's going to fade lighter, but I'm just glad it came out really blended! Which is what anyone would want. Nothing too weirdly out of place or patchy. Her skill set is so good in coloring. I wish I came to her sooner so she would play around with my hair and give me bomb looks! However, my hair is definitely lighter, it's just I wish she went super light on my base color. It's more of a natural look and I'm not sure if I translated well that I wanted it lighter than this. I remember her saying it might come out warm, but how come we can't just bleach it :( idk I, not a hair stylist, but I'll definitely come back! I think the price is okay for the service and Akanae definitely know what she's doing. I'm not sure if I'll continue to go blonde but she did tell me we do invest so much money to go lighter, by waste it. Which is true! But I just hate maintaining it. BEWARE!!!!!!! I went for a cut and color with a new stylist Cat. This would have been my 3rd time coming to this salon and I have never experienced anything like this! She left bleach and doin on my hair for 1 1/2 when she told me it would only need to process for 30 mins. When she finally cut my hair she butchered it! It's very uneven. my ends are completely fried from being processed for so long. I had the intention of going in to get a few high lights on the crown and face framing to cover up my grays and came out with a completely different color and a butchered cut. I just want to thank JV salon specially Janeen for giving my hair a gorgeous transformation! I always had boring straight black hair and wanted to try something new. My friend has been going to Noreen so I thought I'd try her out since the lady that had done by balayage at Hoala Salon and Spa had left. Scheduling an appointment was a little difficult because of my crazy schedule but I finally got around to getting an appointment on a weekday at 4pm for a cut and balayage. Noreen did a great job explaining what she was going to do and after 3.5 hours my hair looked great! The balayage was what I was expecting and the cut was what I had asked for. Noreen also recommended using the Joico shampoo and conditioner they sell so I bought the set. Unfortunately the next day she told me that the transaction didn't go through and I had to go back to redo the transaction :( Besides that, Noreen was amazing!
