    J.P. McCurdy Electrical Services

We were looking to rewire some knob-and-tube that was discovered during a MassSave assessment. The…read moreelectrician who did the assessment was thorough and mapped out the circuits and the loads - essentially, put together a work scope. We used this work scope to get estimates from multiple electrical companies. We got a total of 4 estimates, of which JP McCurdy was one. The other three electricians did a quick visual inspection to make sure the work scope was accurate and provided estimates. They did not charge for this. But JP McCurdy insisted that they would do their own assessment and would not accept the work scope we provide. They said they would charge $250 for this. This charge wasn't mentioned in the initial phone call when I scheduled the assessment. If they had, I wouldn't even have scheduled it. But they called me the morning of the assessment and said that there would be a charge and required a credit card. I was having scheduling issues with the other electricians and wanted to have options (McCurdy said they can start pretty much right away), so I agreed. When their assessors arrived, I provided them a print out of the work scope and mentioned that their office said they would do their own assessment. But the McCurdy assessors said the work scope looks detailed and so they don't need to their own assessment. They spent fewer than 5 mins at my property - less time than the other 3 electricians. When I called the office to dispute the charge on the basis that they accepted our work scope and didn't perform their own assessment, I was stonewalled. But eventually I was passed on to John McCurdy (owner?), who again argued that the charge was their policy. Eventually he said he will refund part of the charge. I have waited 1 month for this refund to appear. But this hasn't happened. Furthermore, they were the most expensive of the 4 quotes, by a lot. Overall a really terrible experience. These guys are unethical and dishonest. Avoid them at all costs.

They really saved us after we were swindled by another operation. They were very patient with us and walked us through each step of the process. The owner of the business came out several times to check on the progress and make sure everything was right. Joe, the head electrician on the job, was fantastic. Call these guys, you won't regret it!

I hired Tailor-Made a few years ago to do a rather comprehensive installation of a home theater in…read moreour living room. I owned all the equipment, just needed them to run 5.1 speaker wire, wall mount some speakers and wall mount a flat screen TV. Needless to say, my expectations were exceeded. They not only fished great lengths of speaker wire over a ceiling without having to cut a single hole in anything, but programmed everything to work flawlessly. We've been enjoying that home theater ever since. They were so good, I hired them again to install a new flat panel and a Sonos Playbar in our master bedroom. This time a few things happened that I didn't expect. John reached out for feedback the day after the install and I let him know what I wasn't quite happy with (placement of the Playbar wasn't as ideal as I had wanted and removal of a cable I didn't expect them to remove). Maybe it was my fault for not supervising as closely as I should have, but no matter... John offered to have his guy back within a week to make it right. Sometimes things don't go 100% and making it right without a hassle is what sets the great apart from the good. Needless to say, these guys are great.

They went above and beyond in showing us all the options we had to fit our budget and how we could prepare to expand our system later to include more home automation devices. From the planning to the installation, Taylor-Made was outstanding. The team that installed and configured our system was amazing! Super neat, very focused on details and aesthetics and spent as much time as we needed to make sure we confidently knew how to run the system. It is fantastic and I wish there were six stars.
