Fruit bowl
Mei C.

Grocery store is very clean and orderly, with fruits out in the front and vegetables inside the store as well. My fruit bowl was freshly made, even though some of the fruits were really sour. I liked that thefruit bowl was filled to the brim and moderately price. Will continue to come back for more fruits and vegetables

I'm reviewing their little outpost stand outside of Trader Joe's on Court St and am too lazy to create a new Yelp listing for it. Be warned - it's not the same stand that used to be here (they actually moved and opened up a brick and mortar - https://www.brooklynpaper.com/trader-joes-fruit-stand-store-bensonhurst/). That said, I was in the area and wanted some fresh fruit. The prices here were pretty good. Avocados were 3/$2, and boxes of strawberries were 2/$4. The avocados were small, but very good. The strawbs however, not as much. Between the two boxes, maybe half of them were good and not overripe/mushy. The ones that were just the right amount of ripe were very sweet though. Nice guy running the stand.

"Organic" strawberries I purchased

They pastry and cakes are not fresh at all... the strawberries are def not organic!! I saw the workers throwing out berries from the packaging and replacing it with something. I think they messed up and put non organic strawberries in organic containers. You can see that some strawberries are much smaller than the other (I cut the stems out). Organic strawberries are always small, they can't be this big. I am not paying a higher price for non organic strawberries, this is a scam! Extremely disappointed. I wish I checked the strawberries before leaving the store but I was in a rush!

a cup of coffee

I am regular. they have interesting selections of soups. However packaging very poor quality. Large containers and lids do not hold hot soups inside and gets destroyed by the time i get home. Soup is all spilled. Money wasted. When i mentioned it to cashier, my concerns were met with ignorance. Just a warning for soup lovers. Until they change containers, no soup for me.

The 3 starts is for their selection of stuff - especially organic products, and high quality milk & eggs, HOWEVER their prices are insane. Attached is a picture of a receipt from WHOLE FOODS & this store. They are more expensive then whole foods. Much more. Tricklings spring milk Whole foods - $6.16 This store - $6.99 Beets WF - $ 2.47 this store $ 3.99 Carrots WF - $ 1.44 this store $ 2.99 Eggs (same brand) WF - $6.99 this store $ 9.99 No thanks, I'd rather go to Whole Foods who in my opinion is expensive, but apparently much cheaper than Sheepshead Bay fruits.

5 stars to one of the best fruits and vegetables I have to in NEw York. I don't know where they get them from, but they surely have the best connection to get them from. Fruits are beautiful, and at the same time taste amazing. I came here with a friend, and now I know where I am about to get fruits and vegetables from. No doubt one of the best.

Sheepshead Bay Fruits and Vegetables Market is probably the best market that I have been to in a long time.... I was on the B49 bus leaving Manhattan Beach yesterday. As the bus was heading towards Avenue Z and Ocean Avenue, I was looking outside of the window and saw Sheepshead Bay Fruits and Vegetables Market. I thought to myself "Wow!..the watermelon and other fruit present in the outer display look absolutely juicy, ripe and delicious! My mouth began to water....and that is when I decided to get off of the bus and go into the market. Upon the outer display, I saw wonderful bowls of prepared mixed fruit salad and I decided to get a bowl of sliced watermelon. Inside of the market is beautiful! Apples, Peaches, Nectarines etc....every piece of fruits and vegetables looked fresh! The place is clean and the items are affordable! Along with the watermelon, I also purchased some green grapes and a nectarine. When I got to the register, I was pleasantly surprised that my total was only $5.82!.....A great price for some spectacular looking fruit! I knew at that moment that I would be coming back to get more fresh produce. I inquired about the market hours and the cashier informed me that I this place is open 24 hours!!!...Jackpot! I left the store and rinsed off my nectarine. When I took my first bite, I knew that Sheepshead Bay Fruit and Vegetables Market was going to become a regular place to visit!!!! Great quality produce at good prices!

I've been shopping here for 3 years. Every time I go, someone follows me around to check if I'm stealing anything. How disgusting.

Hot food selection was great and yummy. The rice, manti, $2 loaf of sweet bread, napoleon cake, and…read moremeat in cabbage were so good. The syrniki were okay--I feel like they would've been better warm? It's right by the Q stop, so super fun to get off, grab some food, and take it to the beach a couple blocks away. The bag cost $1 but felt well made and sturdy.

So in all transparency, I'm rating this as a supermarket with food options, rather than just for…read morethe hot bar itself (even though that's all I sampled), which would be a 4.5. As other reviews can attest, this supermarket has all of your favorite Soviet-style products. As I was about to travel home, I did not have, for instance, any of the many variety of herrings. Instead, I went to the famous hot bar to get some snacks for my flight--kebabs or plov wouldn't travel well, so I basically used it as a bakery. The pumpkin samsa was excellent. It was a bit worse for wear as the outside was no longer crispy, but the flakiness shows how good it must have been. The pumpkin filling was perfectly cooked and very flavorful. The next day, I had a spinach qutab, which I reheated on a cast-iron. It wasn't quite as good as made-fresh, but you could tell how good the crust would have been, and how fresh the spinach still was. Given that trays of food kept coming out as I was browsing, I think this is as good as a buffet gets--it's limited only by the fact that it's a grocery store buffet/hot bar.

They have a weekly circular and it does not state any limits on produce. When you get to the actual store front, there is a limitation. There was an avocado limit at one point. If you didn't purchase a certain amount, you could not buy the avocados at the sale price. But it's not written in every language and even the English was not understandable. This week is 3 for $2.00 oranges. But your only allowed 3. Doesn't mention it anywhere so if you even had an extra bag of oranges, they will take it back. I work in a school, and have done bulk orders for festive events. They gave us less than the amount ordered but were able to fix it. That situation was stressful only because it involved kids. And since it was a mistake of the store, they needed to cater to our timing for the event which they almost weren't able to. They did fix the problem but with much hassle. Overall, the store is decent. Workers are alright. Certain things could be better.
