Some parts of ShopRite feel a little dated, but they've upgraded a lot of their inventory, so it's definitely worth the stroll. Their weekly sales are great, just note they switch over at midnight at the end of the week and count toward the next circular. Being open 24/7 is convenient and most of the staff I've encountered have been friendly, helpful, and efficient. The dairy and ice cream deals are especially good, with plenty of variety from brands like Ben & Jerry's and Häagen-Dazs. ShopRite of Avenue I - Is a good grocery store if you live in NYC., and need a reasonable grocery store. Love their deli department. The deli prices are the best in all of NYC. Recently had eggs on sale for 3 days only for $2.99 The produce section is very good, including the prices of organic produce. I've been going to this ShopRite for several years. I don't understand the way they have let this store become a place I detest going to. Here are some reasons why - on a rainy day they laid down some non-slip carpet like materials throughout the fruit and vegetables. Nice, except that the material reeked of cat urine. Their new customer base is aggressive and will push you, scream, or slam your cart if they want something. The staff, are they really staff? It's hard to tell. Last three checkout experiences- finished ringing up the sale, about six bags of groceries, took the payment, and then walked away. Not a word, just left all the groceries at the register. No bags, no assistance, nothing. Next visit, had to get my bags from another register myself, no offer to help pack the groceries, cashier stood there, sighed and rolled her eyes that I was taking too long to bag the groceries. Yesterday, again had to pack my own bags, cashier managed to put two cartons of eggs in half a bag. I packed the other five bags. I'd also like to mention that on two occasions due to poor refrigeration large yogurt containers spoiled, ice cream was refrozen and crystallized, fresh fish usually quite good had an extremely limited selection, vegetables were strewn around, lettuce bags were open and produce spoiled. What the heck happened to this store??? It's become an awful place to shop. read more

I made a quick trip to the grocery store yesterday because there was a Labor day sale. I was excited to use the coupons I received in the Shoprite flyer. You can also use your digital coupons if you didn't receive the paper with the coupons. Here are the deals- corn: 8 for $2.96 and watermelon for $5.77, and figs for $4.99 a box. I just couldn't pass up these deals. The staff are helpful when you are not able to find the items you are looking for. Ambiance: It gets really busy when there is a good sale so plan your trip to the grocery store accordingly. I will continue to shop here for more good deals. read more

Not sure why this location has only 3.4 stars. My first time shopping here. The store is clean, well stocked, and the staff are friendly and helpful. The produce section is very well maintained and the meat department is well organized . I don't believe I've ever been in a supermarket where I didn't have to search for prices. Not so here. What a pleasure. The prices are right there in front of you, and directly under the correct item. Even in the frozen food case, where the price tag under the item is sometimes missing or have come dislodged from the rack it's attached to (ending up at the bottom of the case and scattered about with all the other misplaced price tags. That may seem like a minor inconvenience (it is), but what it tells me is the manager runs a tight ship. I even heard her say over the loudspeaker that the stock people were to make sure they were doing everything right in their section and she would be coming by to check. Can't a girl just get stuff for eggplant Parm in peace!? First of all the people cluster in one end of the aisle I had to keep going around and around to the point of aggravation. It's waaaay too crowded! When I FINALLy got all my tasties for eggplant parm I tried to leave and the cart locked, blocking the exit door. Security came over to me like I did something wrong. There are carts outside. He said they aren't allowed outside. So unfortunately for them, I won't be coming back that was very very weird. I come here every so often because it's the nearest grocery store near me that isn't overpriced. The store has two free parking areas. Most of the time but it is completely filled to the brimmed. The aisle are well stock and organized. It's decently clean but it has this aroma that smells like raw chicken in the air. However, they are quite narrow and people are not really patient. They will jump over you to get something and not even alert you to their presence. They have tons of cashiers and they move relatively quick. I usually come in during the weekdays and during the morning and afternoon. It's almost always packed. read more

It can get pretty crowded at times, and the parking lot is a bit of a hazard--definitely avoid it if you care about your car. On the bright side, the live lobsters are fantastic, and they'll even steam them for you. Just make sure to order ahead. The service is solid, and I highly recommend the seafood section for both kosher and regular seafood. I drove 20 minutes to pick up a bunch of sushi. I was craving it.... you know, soy sauce and wasabi mix with fresh sushi... Sine it was Sunday I thought it was a safer bet then hunting down an open sushi bar. I was right! Lots to choose from and it was a buy 2 get one free! I packed up 6 packages and hit the check out. $70 later with a couple personal items I was out. I got home only to find there is almost NO WASABI in these containers! And what was there isn't even fresh wasabi... it's like it's mixed with something to thin it out. Like the size of a pea. I was pissed!! I mixed them all together and it was only good for about 1/3 of the sushi. VERY VERY DISAPPOINTING!!! $60 down the drain.... it really ruined the entire experience. read more

Shopping is less of a chore at Shoprite. Because it is open 24 hours, it never seems to crowded. Thankfully it has most staples in stock even during this Covid-19 crisis, they have restocked flour and basics since the first wave of panic shopping. There are signs on the front door alerting customers if there are limits to items for example paper products. Shoprite still has amazing specials, the can can sale is still on. We still go once a week. They even had boxes of 100 gloves for under $5 during the first wave of the crisis. There are now plexiglas screens by the checkout clerks. This is my local grocery store so I come here often. Unfortunately, it's always a hit or miss. Their produce is typically fresh (most times), but I'm often let down by their meats and seafood. I'll get home, open up my salmon ready to cook and it'll smell so bad. It's very disappointing. They're usually good with returns and there's always someone there to assist you. Covering up the SELL BY DATE(s) I'm a regular here. I see all the ways they try to trick the customer. I head to the bakery where I see a bunch of pies with a label 50% off Manager 's Special. In total there were about 20 pies stacked in a few rows. A sticker was placed over the SELL BY DATE. The sell by date was the very next day. I called this to the attention of a manager who said 'there must be someone new working in the bakery' since the label was put on so many pies. He said he would speak with the bakery manager. I have purchased their reduced cakes before and NEVER has the sell by date been covered up. Now, I come back to the store three weeks later and AGAIN I find stacks of bakery goods where the Must Sell By Date is covered with a sticker. I call this to the attention of yet another manager who tried to pull the same story as the first, in that this must be a result of a new person working. I asked him to investigate the problem and call me. I gave him my name and #. He said he would speak with the bakery manager. I asked him to call me back. I never heard from him, though I waited five days for his return call. On the sixth day I filed a complain with the Department of Agriculture, this is the division of food safety at the Dept of Health that investigates complaints about supermarkets. I have yet to hear from them. Oh and today, there are bagged salads reduced by 50% labeled Manager 's Special and here the ingredients are covered by the Manager's Special sale label. The prevalence of false advertisement in supermarkets has grown to such an unethical level that it threatens the integrity of the entire supermarket franchise. During this pandemic time, with many people losing their jobs, families seek to save as much they can on food. Victims of the supermarkets' fraudulent acts on their consumers are not just unethical but criminal. Many supermarkets tend to place sale signs on products that are not on sale (I usually find this in cereal isles). Today, I had fallen victim to this practice in my own trusted supermarket, Shoprite. As you can see, they place a sign on the Rao's marinara sauce stating the sale, but note the small prints that state, "24 oz." Meanwhile, all the Jars stacked are all 32-oz jars. After reviewing the receipt, I went to customer service to return these items (Costco has Rao's for a lot less). The woman at the customer's service counter told me, "We are closed, please come back tomorrow" (note on the receipt that it is a "24-hour store"). As a healthcare professional, I do not have time to return tomorrow. I will have to chalk it off that I should be more careful as if I were reading a medication bottle. But should the general public read supermarket signs as if they were reading contracts when many of the elderlies' eyesight's are compromised? And families are struggling to make ends meet? The practice of "bait and switch" must stop. Consumers deserve to know what price they are paying for their food items without having to read small prints on signs placed on full-price items. Short Review: I'm not here very often, but since Pathmark closed down years back-- I often check the circular to see some of their great offers. Usually I come for when Halo ice cream is on sale, but today it was Quaker Instant Oatmeal. The staff here is usually helpful and the market is a decent size and usually is pretty well stocked. So, you would wonder why I gave this place only two stars-- the customers and a smaller degree, the wait time. This placed is always crowded and filled with rude customers, rude to the tenth power. I've never experienced this level of rudeness anywhere, in any other supermarket. I even had a conversation with in an employee today, who saw the disdain in my face because this lady refused to move out of the aisle before I raised my voice. It's basically a regular occurrence and customers are even rude to the employees. My last complaint is they probably need more staff because often they only have a few registers open and may have long wait times. In short, good sales via the circular, shitty customers who have no idea how to understand their are other shoppers in the store. read more

Been shopping At this Shop Rite for years. I know it is not the best, and that they can do a lot to make things better, starting from the parking, where people park the way they feels like and nobody's cares. Through the store that sometime is such a mess. On evening hours more than the rest of the day. But there are good sides: pricing is good. Bread is always fresh, and staff are nice. I think this has been the go-to supermarket for us because it is quite near where we live. I love that there is always parking here (and an underground parking which makes it perfect for super cold days or rainy days). Evening hours (and close to holidays, of course) can be quite brutal I think the store is well-stocked and the produce are not so bad (although not the best). I can't comment much on the employees but from my experience, they were able to direct me to an aisle I need and successfully took care of my groceries in the cashier. Some of their prices here are cheaper than other grocery stores as well. I find my essentials here and also a big fan of the roast chicken! Hahaha. Will definitely come back. read more

I had the pleasure of meeting cashier Esther on my visit earlier today. She noticed me as I was carrying the red cart which I overfilled (again). She saw me struggling with the cart and called out to me to head to her isle. She couldn't have been any sweeter. She warm, friendly, and ever so carrying in regards to my shopping needs. I was so lucky today. It was the 1st day of the heatwave and everyone stayed home out of the heat. I got a parking space right in front. When I walked in, the isles were clear, the store was fully stocked with all items including sale items. When I got to the deli, I didn't even need to take a number as I was waited on immediately. If you are looking for a supermarket like in the suburbs, this may just be the closest thing to it - Brooklyn style. Shoping here is never boring and they have an abundance of options. Dairy-free ice cream? Not just a couple flavors in one or two brands, but an entire dedicated freezer of it. Every kind of mainstream name brand food and foods from the many diverse cultures that surround it. Shelves are well stocked, there is a fresh bakery, and produce is decent. Between this store, Gala Apple on 18th Ave, and the Flatbush Food Co-op, most of my needs are covered. read more

CHECK YOUR RECEIPTS. Price tags have been consistently wrong for multiple grocery items for as long as I've shopped here the past 5 years. I can never leave without stopping by customer service to show them pictures of the price tags versus the prices reflected on my receipt. I only just caught I was charged $7.99 for Milano salami, when the price tag said $4.99 (I even compared the barcode number to make sure I had the right one). The place is huge and I would say they have the best and freshest selection of produce. They have great sales on stuff like olive oil and bottles of seltzer but I think Whole Foods and Trader Joe's offers a great selection of produce. They have machines for bottle return which is rare in this day of age but the fights that go on there and the lines make you ask yourself if it's worth the hassle. You have to have a shop rite card to get the "discounts" it's free. They do have a large kosher section and a parking lot. read more

I have been shopping at ShopRite for the last decade and the customer service has been remarkable. However, ever since the pandemic they have been more lazy in their service and the deals aren't as good as they used to be. Other than that, the quality of their rotisserie chicken and donut pasteries has downgraded. The last time I purchased one of their chickens there wasn't even a drop of seasoning on it, it tasted like I was chewing on cardboard. This is really 3.5 stars, but giving it 4 b/c they are still beating out everyone else around here, price-wise, selection-wise, & otherwise. This place is huge by NYC standards, and has lots of organic meats at very reasonable prices. This is major considering what is being charged at the organic and specialty stores around here. They also carry those tubes of polenta - delicious if you slice them and throw them on the grill or smoker ! Big parking lot as well as unstaffed, underground, dirty parking garage (unaccompanied females - be wary of this and try to park outside). As for the produce, as with most supermarkets, it depends on what day you go. I have seen good looking stuff here, as well as stuff that was a bit aged on other trips. As Yelpers should know, big supermarkets don't get produce (or any other) deliveries every single day...... Anyway, the staff here has always been friendly and helpful, and if anything, its the customers here that are rude, esp. when it gets crowded ! What can I say that hasn't been said or known? It's Shoprite... probably the last of the large supermarkets that exist in NYC since Pathmark and the rest of the A&P family has closed. Anything you could think of is sold here. Yes, it's quite out of the way if you live in another borough but for their prices, I challenge any new Yorker to find a better deal at their favorite grocery store. Just check out their online circular or watch their TV commercials and you'll be amazed at the prices. Take the F train to Avenue I and enter through the back parking lot. This supermarket chain promotes buying an large quantities to save more money. If you have ever seen the TV hit show "Extreme Couponing", most often times they are shopping at a Shoprite. Many chains offer double coupons, the ones in NYC/Brooklyn unfortunately don't (hey, the rent is higher here than anywhere else). When they have their "Can Can' sale, you can't help but stock up! If you are a regular, you'll notice that sale items rotate every other week or so. For instance, Perdue or Tyson's chicken on sale for 99¢ per pound, Italian sausage for $1.99 per pound, Earth's Organic greens 2 for $5. Friendly's or Turkey Hill half gallon ice cream 2 for $5 (or even $1.99 each!). Speaking of ice cream, this is the ONLY supermarket I have found in NYC that carries Purely Pistachio [Friendly's]. Their own brand of frozen steam-in-bag vegetables are often on sale for 99¢ each. When you see your final grocery bill and how much you saved, you'll want to do a happy dance like that lady in their commercials does. LOL! A Gen X and older crowd mainly shops here... probably why they play 1980s pop and new wave over the store's audio system. You'll be lingering in the grocery aisles softly singing along to Michael Jackson, Madonna, Culture Club, Prince, or Depeche Mode. read more

This supermarket has always been my go to place to shop. I choose to travel a little farther just so I can come here, but honestly the quality is declining greatly. The managers walk around constantly and don't seem to care about the guests. Frequently I have tried to speak to them they didn't even bother listening. The place is always packed and the cashiers seems very overwhelmed. Don't get me wrong I have never had an issue with service by most of the employees which is why I have given 3 stars. Another issue I have with them is there placement of displays. For a supermarket that is always packed they really need to figure a way to make the flow of service muvh smoother. Every turn there seems to always be a table or a display in the way. Especially if there is a sale. I hope they figure out a way to bring the quality back read more
