Let me put it this way: if you put a Wawa's in this location there would be dancing in the streets and no one would miss this place in a thousand years of Sundays. That said, it has some rural charm and stocks fresh sandwiches, breakfast sandwiches, an array of coffee choices, and a few other things that raise it up beyond a mere gas station. It has a new-fangled blend your own milkshake and smoothie machine. It almost achieves a country store vibe, with a mixture of friendly local kids and slightly unhygienic food safety (I'm looking at you, unrefrigerated cup of milk for coffee when the dispenser isn't working - the bottles of disgusting non dairy creamer are on ice, WHY NOT YOU?). The gas pumps are modern and work fine. Parking and maneuvering is a bit tight in the forecourt now that the restaurant has (helpfully) expanded a permanent beer tent into the former parking area to offer outside seating. These travel plazas can always be a bit confusing as the lots are so extensive it is often times easy to get lost among the rows of tractor trailer trucks, pumps, and parking. The Exit 77 Travel Plaza no exception, my travel mate and I pulled up to the nearest pump after maneuvering around a bit. With the cheapest gas in the area (a good 10 cents cheaper than the other 2 or 3 stations) we were happy to not have to go out of the way for these savings. I ran inside to grab a bottle of water and to use the bathroom before departing. Following the signs for the bathroom, I found myself having to walk all the way through the store, leaving through the back exit, and locating it on the backside of the building. This is all well and good except you can't get back in through the exit and have to walk around the building again to enter (which when its raining isn't all that fun). Prices are reasonable within the store. They have a wide variety of items for all your roadside needs. Perhaps some better signage to exit the lot would be a bit handy. Otherwise, a solid location for a quick stop on the road.

Plus I wanted legit truck stop coffee, not the national brand that the big travel center across the street uses. The two bigger travel centers off of the exit make finding this little guy a little challenging. But just be patient, drive a couple hundred feet further and you will see it on the right. Pulling up to the pump I noticed a sign advertising free coffee with the fuel purchase. Score! And indeed, the price for premium was less than the mid grade price across the street. The pump was painfully slow. I think it may have been just the one I was on, because other cars were in and out faster than I. But finally my tank was filled and I went inside to retrieve my free coffee. They ask you not to leave your car at the pump, which is understandable. I have sat in gas lines where people left their car and went inside for food, drink, bathroom, etc. It is very frustrating to those of us waiting in line. So I actually appreciated that they insist people park if they are going to enter the store. The young woman inside the store was very sweet. I asked her if they had matches, which they didn't, but she offered to give me her personal lighter for free. I declined but thought it was very nice of her to offer. Admittedly, finding the exit is a little frustrating. I actually made a complete circle around the store before I realized that you cannot exit the same way you entered, because of median strips in the road. It wouldn't hurt them to put up and exit sign or two. Anyway, a nice experience. The store was clean and well stocked, the staff was nice and there were not huge crowds or lines. I will remember this place the next time I make this drive.
