Looks like a lot of the reviews are old? I played 10/1/22 and had a good experience. Never played it before, so it's kind of guesswork on the holes you can't see (like the 1st tee! - here's to hitting it straight and hoping you'll find it at the bottom of the gully) The scorecard doesn't have a picture of the hole nor is there a "map" at the tee box. Would recommend going on internet before you come out and I'm sure someone has a hole by hole layout. The fairways were in good shape (admittedly, the summer weather has been good) and the greens were exceptional for a $20 for 9 holes with a cart. I've played on many courses at $60+ where the greens were not nearly as bug/weed free. Agree, the clubhouse and staff aren't the best ever, but good enough. Played with a local fellow, who helped us some with where to or not hit it. Regarding length, if you hit the drive around 240, you'll get close to a lot of the greens (the ball rolls on the relatively hard fairways), so great place to hone in your 65 to 35 yard shots. NO DRIVING RANGE, but a decent pitch and putt warmup area. I would definitely go back. read more

Great, inexpensive course that is a nice balance of wonderfully challenging and super fun. There are a couple of pretty intense hills and several blind tee shots, but if you're just out for some fun and don't hit exceptionally far and don't want to pay a lot, check out Shelby. The folks in the clubhouse are super nice, but don't expect a ton from the clubhouse itself. It has the most basic offerings but for some of us, that's more than enough. If you are looking for upscale, this isn't your place. If you're looking for chill and "just a fun time", this might be your place. Set your expectations there. If you're here to give Shelby anything less than 4 stars, you set your bar too high. read more

Can't endorse unless this place is in walking distanced where you live - you're better off elsewhere regardless of skill level. Too many holes with blind tee shots, severe downhill to uphill slopes and a clubhouse that's as welcoming as an outdated Staten Island White Castle. Winter greens aren't much worse than the standard greens. Also no warmup (let alone driving range) areas. One star as it's better than no Course at all, I guess. Another star for the guy who receives your cart at the clubhouse though, because he always asks how the round was and if you had fun. read more

There's so much potential for this place being in the heart of east Nashville, but it just seems like management truly doesn't care. Can y'all call McCabe or Two rivers and see how they do things customer service wise? Two rivers will work hard to get you out if you call day of, Shelby almost sounds like they don't want you to come out. Maybe because it's owned by the city they don't care about extra revenue? Customer service is so below par it's wild. Course really is great for the price though which is why it's such a shame. read more

Forced to rent rental clubs when we got there cause my buddy didn't have his bag. Extremely rude and unwelcoming. Don't recommend at all

Let me begin by saying the staff is very friendly, the price is right, and I will come back to play again. With that said, you get what you pay for. The course is not in the best condition, the layout confusing, no tee markers, etc. It also is very short and a very easy course to play (slope/rating reflect this). But, the price is right. It's also not very busy and the pace of play is usually 3.5-4 hours, unlike McCabe, Nashboro, or Harpeth Hills with a 5 hour pace of play. I also find that folks are much more likely to let you play through on this course than others in the area. read more

I am a terrible golfer but I have been lucky enough to play a few courses during my few years of becoming a terrible golfer. Some are nice, some boring, some really difficult , it really doesn't change my game much, it usually sub par regardless. Shelby is a course made up of really steep hills, gorgeous mature trees and has some homes neighboring some of the holes. I think that this is a pretty challenging course. I love being out there and there are always tee times so it's great for not having to wait. The challenge is that most of the fairways are on enormous hills so even a good tee shot doesn't guarantee you will have an easy shot the next time. They give virtually no advantage on the ladies tees. Many of the greens are also on steep hills so it's really punitive if you hit a bad approach or firm putt. Can you say chip? read more

This is a public course that is kept pretty nice. The surrounding area is older and you drive through a not well kept neighborhood to get there, but the greens were hilly and nice. I enjoyed it because it wasn't crowded and I didn't feel rushed at all. There was no beer cart or anything but you could go inside and order drinks if you wanted. The signs around state that the pace was really strict but I never saw a ranger anywhere. I am still beginning and am kind of slow so I only played every other hole but and it was a pretty difficult course for me. Most of my balls landed on a hill and I haven't really mastered the art of standing or swinging yet. Prices weren't bad, they didn't open up until 8am on a Monday so we couldn't start as early as I wanted to for the day but luckily the course wasn't busy and we could play as fast or as slow as we wanted. read more

I enjoyed it! I finally played my neighborhood course, $22 for riding 18. I thought it was in great shape and I was impressed with the green surfaces. Tee boxes looked good. The hills were freakin brutal and some of the greens sloped toward drop-offs and were quite unforgiving, I didn't see any bunkers though. Because of the hilly fairways it can be hard to both know where to aim and know where your ball went. I hit several trees and lost like 5 balls I think. I didn't loose any when I played 9 holes at Harpeth Hills. I feel like maybe only 2 holes didn't have a big uphill or valley. I would not want to walk this course even though I did see two brave dudes with pull carts. I think the lower price makes up for the crazy hills so I will be back soon. read more

I don't golf; despite being a WASP by birth, I'm just not cut out for it. I do know, however, that if you're looking to shoot a few rounds with some friends and you're not some high roller with a membership at a private club, this is the spot for you. Shelby Golf Course is just north of Shelby Park and the VinnyLinks course. It offers 18 holes at a par of 72, and for a public course it's very beautiful and well-maintained. I visited the course just a few weeks ago, and, while I don't have the skills or equipment necessary to shoot a round, it was pretty nice to just drive around the green. Shelby charges about $18 to play and $6 for cart rental, but since I hadn't really seen the course before, the counter girl was nice enough to let me rent a cart for free! My friend and I zoomed around the course checking things out, and we were pleasantly surprised with its size and the relative kindness of the golfers. Though I nearly got wanged in the head by a golf ball a time or two, I had a lot of fun just checking out the course, so I can only imagine how much fun it would be for a golfer. read more

My wife and I visited Nashville this week. I had spent sometime looking at courses to play and could not beat the value here... I have read some of the reviews and am blown away... The course was in solid shape there were signs... the staff was friendly and yes there were some elderly farts but what golf course doesn't?? I played 18 on sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday!! If the $28.00 for 18 isn't attractive than the course and the terrain difficulty darn well should be. I had a blast!!! this course had no bunkers... thats a plus. The fairways and surrounding trees were all mowed down so losing golf balls was hard to do. I would recommend this course over some of the top courses I have played. Greg Woods read more

I suppose I'll evaluate this course against the other muni's in Nashville. Pro: It's a great layout, lots of elevation changes and challenging shots. There's water on at least one that I remember. The price is right, and it wasn't very crowded when we played there on a June Saturday. Con: It's not as well kept as Percy Warner, McCabe, or Harpeth. The rough is very long, which becomes a problem due to the dandelions that are growing there. Also, the scorecard doesn't include a map, and holes aren't very well marked. My friend and I ended up skipping hole #8 on accident because we couldn't find the tee box. read more

I really don't like this city owned course. It's all hills and valleys. If you like elevation changes then this is the course for you.

As for golf we had to give it three stars, particularly if you've never played it before. It's a very tough course, more so for women. A few of the fairways demanded a drive greater than 200 yards to reach them from the women's tee boxes. As for beauty we give it five stars. It is a beautiful course. read more

Let me start by saying my husband and I are NOT golfers. We do golf, but we are by no means professionals, and we rarely ever actually keep score when we play. We play for fun (and attempt to improve our skills each time). We live right around the corner from the Shelby Golf Course, and we love it! The holes are challenging enough (incredibly challenging to beginners like us), and the friendly folks and laid-back atmosphere always make us feel right at home. If you are looking for a course to sharpen your skills in a "no frills" environment (and therefore, very little pressure), this is the place! read more

McCabe is way better. The greens were like a 80 year old rug that has spent the last 30 years in the desert.

Shelby is what I'm looking for in a course. I'm a decent golfer, high 80's and play here all the time. I live in East Nashville and I gotta say, Shelby plays tough. The course is great because it's never busy and it's surprisingly challenging. No sand, but hills all around. The rough is thicker than you think and the greens can have unpredictable speeds. It's $8 to walk 9 holes. I don't think you can buy a sleeve of nice golf balls for that cheap. I don't know, maybe I'm crazy but I love this course. Check it out if you're in the area. read more

Looks like a good course but i never got to find out. Showed up expecting to play some golf and have a good afternoon. I payed for my round and before i could get on the tee an older gentleman (owner/manager) came up to me and told me i couldn't play at this course because I couldn't play by myself and he didn't have anyone to play with me. He claimed he couldn't make any money if he let me play alone. The whole time I was at the course I never saw anyone tee off so it wasn't like they were extremely busy. I was dressed to a tee with khakis and a colored shirt, He just wouldn't let me play. I explained to him i was from out of town just trying to play some golf and he told me he'd give me my money back so i got a refund and asked another older gentleman worker there if there was anywhere around town I could go play and he told me "nowhere, go back and play wherever you came from." I was outraged so I got my stuff and left. I will never go back here. read more
