The Monroe location was the one I used regularly. I had to close my account since there was always a problem. The daily balance alerts that I signed up for kept stopping, forcing me to keep signing up for them every 2-3 months. Neither their IT department nor management seemed to care, because the problems persisted. The final straw was when I went to do a wire transfer. The lady couldn't enter the correct account number, even though she was looking at it typed out on a piece of paper from a title company. Then she couldn't enter it correctly when I called it out to her. I had to keep telling her that she entered it wrong when she had me verify it. I normally have an awesome experiences with Shell FCU. Yesterday was a horrific experience. I received several checks with a letter attached displaying the check number, and amount of the check. The business that sent the checks do bot have a business stamp that's why they sent a letter on their letterhead stationary. I had way over the amount to cover the check amounts in my account. The branch refused the deposit. I have banked with this institution over 15 years. Very disappointed member. read more

Please do business with any other credit union. I have not missed a single payment and after dealing with a natural disaster, I had to use a lower insurance policy for 2 months. I am now having to pay another $1300 dollars on my loan, which they have converted into an additional $113 per month on my notes. No questions asked. No empathy about what I had to pay for which caused me to not have the full coverage insurance for only 2 months. I never missed a note despite what I had going on and they decided to screw me over anyway. I spoke to their support over the phone and they had attitude and told me the decision is final. Called a second time and was on hold for 15 min before told they couldn't do anything and it was a system error. Service has never been welcoming in the past. Had a manger forget to turn in my ACH form so I had a late payment. I went in and had to sign again and the lady helping me then didn't even bother to acknowledge the error. Ridiculously long holds on check deposits. The funds availability disclosure states your deposit may be subject to delay "if we think a check you deposit will not be paid." Tou cannot even deposit cash on an ATM machine unless you go to one of their tiny locations. For example, if you move or take an extended vacation... you basically don't have a bank. You cannot do any banking outside of their few crumby locations. This is laughable for the day and age we live. Actually, I had no choice but to give one star, I would rate it 0 star. On May 12th I visited this new location in Katy, for loan inquiry and balance transfer. I've been a member since 1999, and in the past 21 years I never had overdrafts, missed payments, last payments etc. etc. I mean perfect 21 years, I estimated that I may have paid $60K in interest or so in the past 21 years of banking on multiple car loans, personal loans, and credit cards. So, I wanted to speak with someone about increasing my credit card limit and check out options for a personal loan, Christopher Franco, processed my loan. He was extremely rude, no manners, and basically yelled at me, and asked me questions which I think were not relevant. I think he messed up my loan process with a 740 credit score. He may have sent inappropriate messages to the underwriter, anyways I was not satisfied with the loan terms and decided to withdraw. I really hope Shell FCU takes action on Christopher Franco so he doesn't repeat these behaviors to others. If possible go to another branch instead or don't speak with that banker for your banking needs. read more

Do not use this bank for anything! I was in the process of buying a new truck. I was approved for the truck in question and was already told what my payments would be. I was told that the truck has to be inspected before the deal is confirmed and it will cost me $200. I agreed and the dealer and i met the inspector at the woodlands mall. Truck checked out very well with all fluids and no accidents. I then received a call HOURS later stating they will not finance the truck due to it having a lift and "big tires". I do not recommend this bank to anybody and will never consider doing any business with them again. This bank is a joke. They took my $200 dollars and denied the deal. Shell keeps changing the story on how there escrow account works. The only keep 2 months of escrow and a buffer, but can charge you more. I had a shortage on the payments but the escrow was able to cover it. Now my payments went up with a surplus in escrow due to the balance has nothing to due with current payment. i've been banking with shell for 15 years had a 760 credit score never missed a payment or late in 15 years got approved for a 60k auto loan with shell 2 months ago i decided not to take their offer because interest rate was too much and i recently applied for a 50k personal loan and was denied??? they need to get some better under writers...i'm guessing they wanted me to do a title loan instead of a unsecured loan is all i can think of i get great loan offers all the time never had a problem getting any money i've needed shell is the only bank that makes it difficult to get a fair loan or auto loan. i'm currently looking for another financial institution to move my money and direct deposit to i'm finished with shell. good luck if you are thinking about using shell federal credit union there are better credit unions out there. fyi they love pulling hard credit reports read more

Incorrect Information can cause financial issue and affect your credit/payment history with creditors. I've accrue fees and my credit payment history in which Shell handle as a minor infraction. I've banked with Shell FCU for the past ten years. I didn't have too many problems until I moved to a different part of Houston that is not close to any SFCU location. Because their online banking is so unreliable, it made it impossible to keep banking there and I closed my accounts but kept my credit card there. Even that is nearly impossible to hold with them as their website is frequently down. Trying to pay for my credit card through an external account is difficult with them, I've even had to call before and they weren't even able to take my payment over the phone. Most recently, their website was down when I went to make my card payment. They charged me a late fee and when I called to explain to them what happened, they were extremely rude and said it was my fault so they wouldn't take it off. I have had 2 accounts at SFCU, recently we opted to move our business checking there from our old bank of nearly 40 years. First, it took 3 times to get a debit card that would work, and second, and most importantly, they checked our credit without letting us know before they did it. We are in the process of trying to buy a home, so not only did their "hard inquiry" drop our credit score an ungodly amount of points, but they have put us in jeopardy of not being able to buy a home at worst and having to make a larger down payment with a higher interest rate at best. To adding 1 year of their own insurance because I did not have coverage for 1 month and my payment shot up $450 to $1040 a month.. This credit union is the most inconsiderate organization I have ever known about. My brother was a member and recently passed very suddenly and was young. He had a car financed through them along with a checking and savings account. My brothers first car note was due on 04/11/2021 and he passed away on 04/08/2021 however the payment was auto drafted out of the account and they received their first payment. My brother had not been buried more than 3 days and they called wanting to come pick up the car. I understand that you are a business and business must go on but the payment was made and not late so technically it had been paid for that month so there was no need to contact a grieving family and make arrangements so bluntly. If that was not bad enough they wiped out his checking and savings account for a loan that his family had no idea about and they would not discuss with us and they said they can't due to him being deceased and I asked them how do you know he passed well we were notified by the social security office. I told them sir the social security office does make mistakes and they have reported people being deceased when they were not so again how do you know he is deceased where is your proof that he is deceased. I know you don't have the death certificate because his family does not have it at this time so please explain how you removed 8k out of his accounts with no legal proof of his passing. They could not answer that questions or explain how that was appropriate. I feel like this organization has robbed my brother and in fact was very inconsiderate to the situation and I would never ever give them my business. It is sad enough that a family is grieving that you have to add to the pain as well and oh I really loved the fact that I was told that he did not hold up to his obligation to his loan last time I checked a deceased person did not have an option on staying on this earth to make good on a loan and to make it sound like he was not responsible and did not take care of his obligations is offensive. Service here actually sucks. This is the second time I've been here in recent months to open a joint checking account. I've recently moved to the Houston area & I needed to open an acct. My bf & I called ahead of time to ask exactly what we needed to take with us so we could be prepared. We were told 2 forms of ID. So that's exactly what each of us took. We got up early to be there by 9 on a Saturday bc we were told it gets packed. They took forever to meet with us. Then when they did, they told us that my DL needed to show an address here in Houston (I had only lived here 2 weeks). So we went for nothing. THEN, today we go (with an updated DL) & they said it would take 45 mins to an hour to open an acct. Well we were on a time crunch today cause we have a busy schedule today, so we say okay we need to get this done. So we sit down & 10 mins later she tells us she needs to run our credit to open an acct. WTF?! Why? To open a checking acct? My bf is repairing his credit right now (from stolen identity) & another inquiry on his report wouldn't look good. So my bf is pissed at this point. We looked at each other & we're like screw this! We walked out. So another wasted early morning on nothing! Besides all this, not a smiling face in the building from any employee on either visit. Auto loan experience First I applied for loan and was appoved for $22k but was having issues with trade in & credit report so I thought refinancing would be easier....WRONG valued by them for $13k, so I needed another $2k, they would approve for that somewhere else. Now Shell always claims to help with credit full of BS. THEY ARE WORST AS THE BIG BANKS, So after 24hrs wait on an email question reply this is want I sent them... I already called and talked with someone yesterday. She'll FCU proclaims to help people did credit issues which is full of ****. If you will only approve refinancing auto loans for the value of the cars how is that helping anyone. One if one gets the loan at value or below they might as well trade it in. Second you offer 90 days deterred payments in that 90 days a person could pay off credit cards limiting there debt. So if you don't put all that into consideration. Why do we deal with you and your false claims on helping people. You're not really helping anyone at all, to me your just as bad as the big banks. I will definitely out my reviews in this bank. Now I have issues with Capital One they & my past money issues got me in the credit issue I'm in. Yet that bank granted me the car loan I'm in even if it's at 18% apr at least that's a chance. So how is Shell FCU helping people. Now I'm considering removing my deposit and going back to Capital One bank & I left them for you, thinking you would be better. Now I see I was completely wrong, you would even put the difference about my car value on another loan. So once again I'm like why am I banking with She'll FCU. If you want more business you need to improve you judgement on people. Now please forward this to your managers, loan officers, etc people that make all the decisions, no wonder you cannot keep employees at your banks. I've been with Shell for almost a year now and I've got to say, their rates are good and the people are friendly but on the technical side of things, they are horrible. - The website is ugly and cluttered, half the time I can't find anything with all the adds floating around (this is the same after account login) but you kinda get used to it after a while... - I've had my card shutdown for anti fraud prevention twice which would be a nice feature except that you can only get it re-activated by the bank itself Monday through Friday 8 to 5 and the last time this occurred at 7pm on a Friday so I was down for the weekend. The second time, when I got in touch with them on Monday I was told the card was already canceled and they would need to ship me a new card. After I grumbled a bit they waved the fee for expediting a new card. - Online banking (the service not the whole website) has gone down a number of times and currently it has been down since mid day Friday and its Sunday and since tomorrow (Monday) is a federal holiday I'm guessing it won't be back up till Tuesday, if we are lucky. Oh, and don't get your password incorrect on the website 3 times, or you'll be down till the next business day. No self authentication (you know, Moms birthday or first job type questions) to re-enable your login. As you can see, weekend and evening services for this bank don't exist. And for things like the online banking, I believe a few hours of IT overtime should be a given. The bank needs to realize that customers these days have a good choice as to where they can bank and the current perception is that I should be able to access my money any time any where, even if I have a problem. read more

it is with great despair that i am forced to write to you today...what has transpired is absolutely a shock to me, as sfcu has always been the best institution i've ever worked with, but last night and today has ruined that in total. my debit card was cancelled, apparently, 11 march 2020. sfcu chose not to mail me a replacement card, because get this, my address is too long. even better, i received zero notification of this...no phone calls, emails or texts. now, i am out of town (houston) for a family funeral, and have zero funds to eat, feed my kids or even get back home. after hours on the phone with sfcu reps, the only solution is for me not to have any, yes any, access to my funds for 7-10 business days, which is totally unacceptable, but when i made that clear to the last rep i spoke with, no one cared. your automatic message, while waiting for a rep, says sfcu treats its customers like family...i am very sorry you treat your family like shit, hope i don't get hungry or hurt in the next two weeks, hope my kids don't die, and will be closing all my sfcu accounts upon my return to houston. all my praise for the institution will cease immediately, and i will be letting everyone i can spread the word to how sfcu treats its customers, both online and word of mouth...hope you have a great weekend, and next two weeks, and every time you eat, hope you think of your "family" who is now stuck out of town, with zero money, who you care nothing about in the slightest. read more
