Absolutely terrible experience at Shell! Last night, at 10:53 PM, my friend and I went to fill up gas and handed the cashier two $50 bills through the window. The cashier kept one $50 bill and only gave us a receipt for $50, which had the wrong time on it--7:38 PM! We asked for our other $50 back, but the cashier insisted we only gave him one $50. We went back today to speak with the manager, and even though the security footage clearly showed my friend handing him two $50 bills, the manager claimed it wasn't clear how many bills were given. Despite us pointing out the incorrect time on the receipt, the manager brushed it off, saying the cashier just messed up the receipts. It's insane! This is blatant dishonesty, and instead of taking responsibility, the manager is just covering for the cashier. Completely unprofessional--stay away from this place! read more

Stopped by to use car wash service. I noticed the process went by super fast. I parked and looked at the car. It did not even look like I had washed it. I went back to the gas station and told the cashier. He said "oh you must not have followed the directions". What directions? You pay, pull forward and wait for the green light to tell you it's done and pull forward. Not rocket scientist. I've used other shell car washes before and never had a problem. The guy then said "it's a new system" and then said he would tell the owner. Wow. Nice customer service. All he had to do was tell me to go thru again and have a satisfied customer. I live in Studio City and have driven to at least a dozen gas stations in search of a working air pump for my tires with no avail. Then I found myself at a Van Nuys Shell Station on a suggestion from my child's friends parents the other day and begrudgingly stopped and asked the clerk if I could use the air pump to fill my low tires (all 4 tires were low at this point) I asked him if he could help me since I wasn't sure how to use the air pump properly and offered money for the air and his time, but he declined the money and said he could not leave his station which I understood. He told me how to use the pump and turned on the air without a purchase which I thought was kind. I was surprised to see the pump was not only working but it was new. I aired up all 4 tires and then purchased some snacks. all in all it was exceptionally clean and well stocked for a gas station. Okay, This Shell Gas Station has to be one of the most expensive shell gas stations I've seen yet. .more than 76 and Chevron. Usually Shells are a tad less pricey for quality fuel. It also has a drive-thru car wash, which for some reason, instead of putting my car in park or neutral and have it move my vehicle along the tracks, I literally had to drive thru it. The one by my old house was great, it was a thorough wash and vacuuming your car afterwards was free with the wash. But this one seemed like I just drove thru so quickly, it didn't clean my car too well, it wasn't worth the $7, and to top it off. .I had to pay to vacuum my car after $1/ten minutes. Ridiculous. Anyway I just thought I'd give everyone a heads up if they're planning on washing their car here, or filling their tank. read more

This is my first review of Balboa Shell as I have never had a problem in 16 years. Today....I paid for the premium wash - for the first time....I accidentally went past the stop for the wash to work. The attendant - Not the usual man that is there; but another guy. He unfortunately had to come out and reset the car wash. Well; I guess he thought I had never been there before but yes....Not my first rodeo as it is my neighborhood carwash. I know how long the premium wash goes and how long the regular wash goes. If I wanted regular I would have paid for it; but don't take the liberty because you're pissed you had to walk outside and give me the regular wash then deny to my face what you gave me. Two problems with this incident: (i) being lied to (ii) not getting what I paid for. Do not ever let the attendant reset you wash without you in the facility while doing it. You will be "ripped off". I came here yesterday to get an car wash which I usually do on a weekly basis as I work across the street. But when I got to the laundry mat yesterday my car was still dirty. Like it hadn't been cleaned. I didn't have time to come back because I had to travel to my second job in Los Angeles. So I came back today to remedy the situation. When I explained the situation to the cashier she immediately got on a defensive and replied that it has to be the same day per mention told her I have another job. They argued with me until they finally gave me another code for the car wash. I just went to this shell on victory and balboa. WORST service ever!! If I could, I would give it no stars at all!! First of all I used their car wash, at this gas station. I just paid for my car wash and waited for the person in front of me to finish up. Then, the man working there came out and said the other person in front was using the car wash that I Paid for, which I thought was totally weird!! 30 min later, he comes and puts in some code and tells me to put the car on park. I did then, he told me to get out showing hand gestures and I accidentally hit my car on a pole that I did not see. So basically, if you want to come out with a damaged partly washed car, go get your car washed at this gas station. Truly a disappointment. Never going here ever again!! read more
