Chose this resort over others at Carolina beach (where we were before) due to their proximity to the boardwalk and live music we didn't want as we were getting our kids to sleep lol. But this location was a HUGE win for us. On the end of this island, it has beach and ocean access that wraps the end that you can walk, explore, go shelling, fishing or just relaxing. Resort was great. Parking was convenient. Cons of the resort were the umbrella and chair rentals that showed on their site weren't there so we had no shade or chairs for our stay. Rooms could use some deep cleaning and touch ups but over all they were nice. Balcony was tight space with bird poo on everything so we didn't sit out there much unfortunately. Beds were just uncomfortable for me personally. We did doubles for our family and a full size just doesn't do it for me sharing the space with a toddler while also 7 months preggo lol. Pros were friendly staff, clean and heated indoor pool, neatly made and decent rooms, the beach and water with various tide pools was amazing. Outdoor pool was clean but too cold to swim in it for the time of year we were there. We didn't utilize the restaurant any during our stay; breakfast looked too pricey and dinner we ate out. Would stay here again for the location but would look elsewhere for better beds and bathrooms.

Parking structure, seems to be sinking. Note lack of guests. There were no guests.

It was the worst experience I've ever had in a so called resort. This is not a RESORT. The lobby is lovely, but nothing else was . The HEAD OF HOA- rude. The head of maintenance is condescending, rude and lazy. Not to mention intentionally insulting me, telling Us, IF YOU DO NOT LIKE IT HERE - LEAVE. Ok I did. Do not stay here. It's unsafe, old and dirty. Stay at that holiday inn illumina. It's beautiful, it's very clean and comfortable and has absolutely amazing food, amazing views and the staff is amazing.BUT STAY AWAY FROM SHELL ISLAND RESORT. Google reviews. IT IS AN OVERPRICED DUMP

Kitchenette area great for a small family and to prepare meals love the small but still full size fridge

I attended a conference here this spring. Each room faces the beach and has a balcony or patio. It is older, but updated and well-kept. This room had a small, but full size fridge. Next year(cause, I am coming back) I hope to get the same room. I don't have any complaints except that I didn't stay longer.

View from the second floor!

This spot is all about location, but unfortunately needs some work. We visited over a 3-day weekend in January. We expected the indoor pool to be useable, but both the water temp and air temp was too cold to be enjoyable. Staff said the indoor pool was usually 87 degrees, but it was struggling to keep up with the cold weather outside. The outdoor hot tub was also more like a warm bath, not at hot tub temps. So we didn't use that either. The view from our room on the second floor was really pretty with floor to ceiling windows. However, our room needed a few repairs, one of the bathroom sinks wouldn't turn off properly, and you had to get the handle in just the right position or you'd be wasting a ton of water. Our exterior door was also in need of repair. You had to slam it so hard when leaving otherwise the locking mechanism wouldn't connect and you could just push the door open. A few of the towels didn't seem super clean. I found a gross hair on one of them and a stain on the other. The restaurant wasn't open. The covid waiver we signed upon check in made it seem like it was due to covid but the staff said it was closed for maintenance. The bar was open during afternoon/early evening hours and they made a nice rum cocktail for us.

Dirty blinds

Photos are posted in this review. Our room was dirty. There was dirt and dust lots of it under the beds. The pull out couch had food and crackers under it. The floors were filthy. The kitchen sink and dish drainer were filthy. Sinks in bathroom had crust and grime around faucets. The air vents were dirty. The water smelled like rotten eggs. We did not drink it. There was large amounts of water in the hallways with no caution signs. That's dangerous. Other guests we spoke with had similar remarks. I emailed the general manager about these concerns. There was no response. We were planning to have a large family event here. Not now that would be horrible and embarrassing. There are plenty of other hotels with ocean views on Wrightsville Beach. We will return...just not here.

Problems: Pool needed cleaning, towels everywhere with spiders, bugs; sheets dingy, iron rusty, light bulb blown out, toilet ran all night, blow dryer was full of lint, customer service average, few complimentary, not a resort standard.

Room Coffee Pot

Lipstick on a pig, this place is dirty. Don't plan on using the "drip" coffee pot in the room. Sticky tabletops and stained furniture. For a resort at these prices this place is way below the standards. Not 100% wheelchair chair friendly. We had 1 meal at the restaurant which as expected was gross. Undercooked chicken tenders, fish tacos missing ingredients covered in kraft parmesan cheese with a server focused on everything but the customers.

Most amazing view! And the best customer service the GM And sissy greeted us with the biggest smiles and most friendly faces we will definitely be back! 10/10

The grounds are beautiful, peaceful, and rich with history. Even though only some of the flowers are blooming right now, there is still plenty to enjoy--towering live oaks draped in Spanish moss, winding paths, ponds, sculptures, and the feeling that you've stepped back into old Wilmington. The famous Airlie Oak and the historic chapel make it feel more like wandering through a living postcard than just another garden. Airlie dates back to the late 1800s and was created by Sarah and Pembroke Jones before becoming a public garden preserved for future generations. The gardens are well kept, easy to stroll through, and especially lovely this time of year with the Azalea Festival season beginning. It is the kind of place where you slow down, take a deep breath, and remember that nature did landscaping long before homeowners associations started issuing warning letters. The one drawback--and for us older folks it is a real one--is that there simply are not enough restrooms spread throughout the grounds. With so much walking involved, having a few more bathrooms around the gardens would make a tremendous difference and would make the experience more comfortable for seniors and families. Overall: 4 out of 5 stars. A beautiful, historic Wilmington treasure that is absolutely worth visiting, especially in the spring--just be sure to make a restroom stop before setting out on the trails.

Tonight my family dined at the Figure Eight Island Yacht Club. I will start my review by saying…read morethat it is a very beautiful setting. Our party consisted of nine people. The salads and bread at the beginning of our meal where nice and had nice flavor. The menu has two categories one has club favorites which they serve all the time and the other side had "featured" items. Thinking that the "featured" items might have a bit more going for it I ordered from that. Three of us ordered the Herb Roasted Chicken on the "featured" section. It was a TOTAL flop! The chicken consisted of two very small boneless pieces that where so over cooked and dry that it resembled the over cooked turkey on National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation! It was dry and tough! Three of the group ordered the Shrimp and Grits. The flavor was fare and had four small shrimp on the plate. It was a mere snack at best! I felt extremely embarrassed for my wife's parents entertaining guests from out of town. The prices are outrageous considering the quality and quantity of what they consider presentable food! I have had better meals at K&W Cafeteria for a fraction of the cost when I was in college years ago!!! If in north Wilmington you would be much better off going to Cape Fear Seafood Company on Market Street. Now I understand why our party was one out of a total of three in the entire dining room at 7:00pm on a Saturday night.

Nothing too fancy , but certainly adequate for a few nights stay. If you plan on only sleeping at the hotel, this is the spot. The front desk was helpful and accommodating. The rooms and hotel in general were clean. The rooms and lobby are small, but again - adequate. One thing I love - no carpet. None in the halls and none in the rooms. Yay!!! Bed was comfy. No closet, but hooks and hangers. All the other basics are included. One ding -the walls are thin. I could hear the people upstairs something terrible. Glad they went to bed early. Otherwise I would certainly stay again. Shop around for rates.

I love my luxury hotels but I also love a hotel that's a lower price point. The hotel which opened last July is located in Mayfaire so it's close to shopping including grocery stores and restaurants. It's about a 10 minute drive to Wrightsville Beach. The lobby of the hotel is bright and welcoming. It has four different seating areas. One area is set up for people to hang out and play pool. It has an L-shaped sectional and high-top tables.. Another space is like a living room with some cool funky hanging chairs and sofas. Another has a huge flat screen to watch sports. And finally, the fourth area has high and low top tables to work and it also doubles as tables to enjoy your free breakfast in the morning. The high top tables have outlets for all your electronic gear. The check-in counter is at the center of it all. The circular check-in also has a variety of snacks and drinks for purchase. There is also a microwave. The rooms are modern with wood floors, huge flat screen TV, desk with wheels, and a refrigerator. It does not have a closet but does have a rod for hanging clothes as well as a wall with fixtures that can hold hangers. There is also an iron. The bathroom has great lighting. For us ladies, this is super important. It also has a hairdryer. I had a king bed which was super comfy. The room is spacious. I know some travelers like a little more room but for me this was perfect. I wasn't spending my whole day in a hotel room. For those that drive an EV, the parking lot has 4 EV chargers. It's also a dog friendly hotel and for those of you traveling with your hoomins there is a large glass jar of T-R-E-A-T-S on the check-in desk. I will definitely stay at this property on my next trip to Wilmington.
