A great location if your looking for east beach access but if your not pressed I would choose and alternate option. For the price it's not worth it. I read the reviews and saw that it was very clean, as traveling with small children who require lots of toys etc I opted for the convenience of location. Worst decision even though the amenities etc you still have to think about other patrons the motel attracts. I quickly learned how thin the walls were and so loud music playing all night , after being in the water and sun I got zero sleep. Everyone leaves at 11 and only option advised was to call the police. Originally gave this place 4 stars but now dropping it to 1 as no matter how much fun you have if you don't get any rest you question if it was even worth it. Silver Gull is certainly the look and feel of a motel. Not nearly a four star stay but maybe a two or three star stay. The rooms with two beds are more like full size beds not queens. The balcony furniture is plastic and uncomfortable so we dragged out the room chairs which made balcony sitting way more comfortable. I do have to say the entire staff there are very nice and very courteous! Even having said that I would stay again because of the ocean views, at least our room, and the location to direct beach access. One note to make the parking is limited to only one vehicle per room and its tight. If you leave the hotel for dinner out in your car you very well may not get a space in the hotel and will have to pay to park your car overnight. I don't know why they just don't mark each parking space correlated to you room number because they do give you a car tag for your car at check in.??? read more

I thought this was a decent hotel. Until I slept in the bed and was mauled by bed bugs. When my husband and I went to the front desk to inform them they had bed bugs the manager on duty insinuated that we brought them with us. I have never been so insulted in my entire life. I have never experienced bed bugs until staying there. He told us that he had to investigate before returning our money to us. I showed him a video of the bugs in the bed. He stated he has never seen them on the top of the sheets like that. Well, I got bit while I was under the sheets and one was trying to bite my husband as he lay on top of the sheets. He asked us had we been at another hotel before coming there, which we were not. I showed him six of the 12 bites I received. He did nothing to assure us that it would be taken care of. I told him that I just wanted to make sure no one else experienced what I had just experienced. It was one of the most horrifying experiences of my life. Please don't go to this hotel. You don't want to bring bed bugs home with you. read more

I've stayed at the 'Silver Gull Hotel' twice, and thoroughly enjoyed myself BOTH times! I highly recommend it! The first time I stayed was, by myself, in the room where a scene from the movie 'The Divine Secrets of the YaYa Sisterhood' was filmed. It was in one of the beach-front rooms (which is extra in terms of money, but worth it). I stayed three days and enjoyed every second of it. It's a nice, well-kept beach where people frequently surf, walk their dogs, jog, hunt for treasures with metal detectors, read, sketch in their sketch books, etc. Each of the 4 beach-front rooms have a HUGE balcony. I loved laying out in the lounge chair, bundled in a warm blanket, sipping wine. It's just a beautiful place and, best of all, it's directly next to a gorgeous stone pier. I walked over to the pier, every morning, to have a cup of coffee, stare out at the ocean and listen to the crashing of the waves. Pure poetry. The second time I stayed there was for another retreat, for Valentine's Day (weekend) in 2010. I had another beach-front room, which actually had an extra room attached. I had a great time because it snowed. If you've never seen it snow at the beach, it's a magical experience. If you want the Eastern beach experience, in a cool, laid back town with lots of activities -- or just need to get away from life -- this motel is the place for you. :o) read more

There smoking policy could be argued but I understand that a lot of people would just toss the butts off the balcony and possibly catch the greenery around the hotel on fire ( yes I smoke ) read more

This retro hotel is located on the beach and next to a touristy pier in Wrightsville Beach. My fiancé and I went here on the way to Charleston, NC. I hadn't been to Wrightsville Beach before but what we discovered was a beachy town with healthy inhabitants and a quaint feel. I would imagine it's much busier in the summer months but it was quiet and relaxing for us in late fall. The price dropped the day after we stayed there but we got an ocean view room on the 2nd floor. The suite was clean but dated. There are certain rooms which have been renovated. The decor felt like a grandma's beach house but if you're looking for a no frills place this will do. Parking is available under the hotel. Richard (I think) helped us with check in. He was very friendly and lent us a wine key later that night. Price was $ 146 including tax for one night. We would consider returning in the off season for sure. read more

We had a lovely time here. Clean rooms with a balcony and chairs. It was nice to have the sliding door open and enjoy the breeze and the sound of the waves. Please do yourself a favor and stay in one of the four oceanfront rooms here! I was very lucky and scored one with the extra sitting/bedroom recently. I am so glad I found this place! I cannot complain about anything, it's clean and smells good, too! Plus, the view of the beach is amazing! The sleeper sofa in the sitting room has a thick mattress on it and the king in the main room is comfy, too! Please don't let outside appearance deter you, it's well worth the price. Previously, I stayed in an ocean view room with two full beds and I don't regret it. The mattresses are a little old but it wasn't a horrible rest on them. I'm very picky but I definitely will return and I will never stay at Shell Island Resort again. The water does not smell horrid like it does at the $400 per night "resort" down the road. The AC is awesome! I kept having to turn it down because I was so cold. The rooms are entered from inside the establishment so I'd say it's a hotel not a motel. The halls are clean and smell fresh plus they are air conditioned. The rooms smell very fresh and were clean. This is another perk over the "resort". I love that there's a full size fridge here just another one of the better amenities you get here for less money. I can't wait to go back and score an oceanfront room. Registration staff are very pleasant, too! You won't find a better place for the money! read more

I'm shocked I haven't reviewed the Silver Gull. I've been coming to this motel now for years this has been my go to vacay spot when I only have a few days to get away. No this isn't a beautiful relaxing resort but it's the cheapest place I can find that is oceanfront. This hotel is filthy. I had to move hotels because I was scared to walk around the room barefoot or sit on the bedspread. I stayed at a friends house until I could move hotels. The location is great being right by the beach, but that's about it. I don't understand why they don't spend a bit to update the hotel, get some new linens and do some overall improvements. The shower tile was chipped and was clearly moldy. There were cigarette butts all over my balcony. I'd literally rather camp. I will say that the cleaning ladies were very friendly. read more

If you go, just remember it is a motel, not a hotel, so adjust your expectations - no shampoo and conditioner provided and slightly outdated interior, pay for your ice, etc. HOWEVER - it was a wonderful experience. We went on a Monday so the rates were cheaper and stayed in the ocean view room - totally worth it. Two decks and clear view of the beach with nothing in between. Two double beds were perfectly comfortable and there was a kitchenette and dining area. Everything was very clean and the entire staff was so nice and helpful. Parking is free and attached to the motel and there is ramp access to the beach right from the second floor (of three). This was the least expensive place we found on Wrightsville Beach and we would stay again in an instant. read more

The basic room comes with a kitchen, 2 closets for clothes and one for beach stuff storage, a large bathroom, very comfy new beds, a dining table, flatscreen, free wi fi, private balcony and mine had an amazing view, free parking and a really pretty community outdoor deck on the beach! This is our 3rd time staying here so we decided to splurge and get the king suite for hubbys bday weekend but unfortunately we couldnt get a cleaned room any of the 3nights we stayed there. Lots of bugs/cockroaches throughout so needless to say wasnt too thrilled with that. The oceanfront room is great but not the greatest having the pier exit door outside our room all hours of day n night ppl were in and out slamming the door so little one woke up throughout night because of it. We want to come back because we love to go on the pier it just wasnt the greatest $1100 we spent this time. read more

We had 3 adults and toddler which slept in a pack and play stay in one room here for a couple of nights it was wonderful we got a balcony room w a beautiful view and we had plenty of space for all of us .. it's location is busy since it is right next to the pier and public access but there is plenty to do right on this street .. the hotel does have there own parking but you can only have one car per room so if you have two like we did the other has to pay for public parking which was $17 a day but it is right in front of the hotel so not a total nuisance the only other thing that was a bit worrisome was that the balcony is not very small child proof so if you have little one like i did she couldn't go out there bc she could slip through the bars or under if she tried but the maid service did a great job with cleaning and didn't have a problem with asking for extra towels or asking for new bedding when my child accidentally spilt water all of the bed would definitely come back again read more

We stayed at the Silver Gull based on the Yelp reviews. This place is gross. Black mold in the shower, a chipped toliet bowl in the bathroom, and the carpets are an ugly and dirty color. Not to mention the rooms smell like smoke and the walls are paper thin. It's a shame they don't invest in improving it significantly, because its a great location. Such a great place! Relatively cheap for an ocean front room. Everything has just been remodeled and is so beautiful. The staff is very friendly and helpful. It's straight off of 40 coming from Raleigh. We didn't have to make one turn! Fairly clean. I think the floors could have been mopped a little better and one of our tables had sand on it upon arrival. Early check in and late check out doesn't seem to be a problem. This is going to be our spot when we do an overnight beach trip from now on! We will be returning. read more

Stayed here for a night and I'll start with the only PRO - balcony overlooking the beach. If you're going to sleep on the balcony this is the place for you. If you plan to spend any time in the room, don a hazmat suit. Smells mildewy, moldy shower and curtain liner, dubious carpet, rusty fixtures, food under the fridge and splatter on side of the fridge, creaky bed, and paper thin walls. I've stayed at motels before and I understand cheap fixtures but this is at the bottom of the list in terms of cleanliness and upkeep. Oh by the way, I stayed in a "renovated room." I just think its incredibly overpriced (over $ 200 a night) for a shabby dirty motel. read more

Silver Gull hotel is a great place to stay in a prime location on Wrightsville Beach, right next to Johnny Mercer's pier. We had a nice balcony Oceanview Saturday and Sunday night August 6 and seventh, 2016. The place is booked, all 32 rooms, on weekends but not during the week. The two double beds were comfortable, there's a nice kitchenette. The whole place was remodeled January to April of this year and looks great. Walked right out of our second floor corridor onto the deck overlooking the ocean with stairs going right down to the beach. Much better deal than the Hampton Inn where the rest of the wedding guests stayed, less money too. We watched the Olympics on the new screen TV in the evening. Only thing is no breakfast included; however, we walked down a short distance to the Holiday Inn and enjoyed their breakfast buffet. Parking is not a problem at this prime location on the beach. 5 stars read more

UPDATE: The manager called us, apologizing profusely for what happened, compensated the cash and offered us a free stay at the Silver Gull. He apologized for not getting back to us sooner because one of their managers passed away and he had been dealing with that. Very Clean, Very convenient. If your looking for super high end fancy stuff go down the beach and be disappointed. Price was excellent. I stayed in the renovated room, very comfortable bed. This is like a studio condo, so bring your own mini-bottles of shampoo. Great little kitchen, nice place to refresh from the beach, make a meal relax, then take an evening stroll. No lobbies to contend with. Parking is right there. Remember to tip the cleaners, they do a great job. read more
